Total quality tqm. a managerial challenge

Anonim

During the last decades in the international business and academic environments, Total Quality has been constantly talked about.

Whether in events organized by the main business associations, universities and higher institutes, the concept of Total Quality has gradually been installed in our culture, which is how many companies have incorporated the Administration for Total Quality (TQM) into their daily operation, developing various programs such as Quality Committees, Process Improvement Teams, Quality Circles, etc. All of them aimed at a joint effort to achieve Quality through continuous improvement, thus initiating a true internal revolution in its structures, methods and procedures.

The search for Total Quality is carried out through the so-called Total Quality Management (TQM), which is a planned change process, initially the product of awareness and management initiative, but which slowly it involves the will and commitment of each and every member of the organization, from the highest hierarchical levels to the lowest. According to the international expert in Total Quality management, Dr. Shoji Shiba the TQM is "an elaborate system of practices, tools and training methods to lead corporations that satisfy their clients in a rapidly changing world", applied to the industrial sector by For example, the TQM seeks for the company to produce goods of unbeatable quality, that these are produced and distributed on time, that they last an adequate time and that they require a minimum of maintenance.

Under this approach, we can understand TQM as a new administrative model based on a very special philosophy, which is becoming an authentic global strategy that requires the cooperation of all the functions of a company: marketing, production, logistics, finance, etc.. but that also involves incorporating all organizations related to the company, such as suppliers, distributors, advertisers, among others. Although each company must find its own way to implement TQM, there are three characteristics that every company must take into account: TQM focuses on customers and meeting their needs, TQM works on continuous process improvement to raise the quality of products and services, and finally the TQM needs the full participation of the staff, all this aimed at creating a quality culture for all aspects of a company's activities that allow it to succeed.
