To govern is to educate. reflections on education in chile

Anonim

Has there ever been a president in the history of Chile, specifically Don Pedro Aguirre Cerda, who focused much of his government on Chilean education, his motto? "To govern is to educate"and could not be more correct. Because at the moment in which society must adapt in order to progress, it is faced with the great problem that it is already built and cultured based on how society learned to behave and function (for better or for worse) We can find this with problems of a very recent contingency such as climate change, a problem that is independent from people or companies, they could have changed if, by default, society since it operates in the world is aware of it… unfortunately this is not the case, so no matter how serious the situation is, no matter how much effort is generated by small crowds, the government or a few companies, the problem will never be alleviated at the root or effectively.

So what is the solution?

Education, since this is the only one that is really general for everyone and molds young people based on their establishment or educational plan, is the one that the next generations spend the most time on and the only one with the necessary power to ensure the future of a country. In a government you can exercise repression or generate debauchery, you can also balance both, but educating is what can guarantee a stable future, giving the tools to young people to face the problems that the old generations caused,But… what if we are not giving the tools to young people? Do we make it impossible for teachers to have classes properly? Do we prevent them from exercising their profession comfortably and effectively in municipal lyceums? The government turns a blind eye to the problems and the only solutions they provide are patches that are not very stable? What if educating becomes the burden of the state rather than its mission? Well, when all these factors are found together, they result in Chilean education of the 21st century.

(before and now)

Unfortunately, the former president of Chile, Pedro Aguirre Cerda, passed away a long time ago, enough to not even be able to finish his government, which is why we did not see his plan at the top, but if he left us with great teachings, one of them is that education should be the focus of a government, this understanding that despite the bad state in which a country is, if its education is successful, the following generations will be able to come before these and come out ahead as a country, in a few In other words, guaranteeing quality learning is guaranteeing a quality future.

As I mentioned, we never managed to see this plan in its maximum splendor and over time no government put as much emphasis as that one, they were from the same (radical) party but did not follow the same model as Aguirre Cerda. We come to 1973, it is the coup d'état, the right wing takes over the government and there, where education gradually begins to decline, never changing, never rethinking, and even less improving.

It is 2006 and students must fight to have a minimum of law, the precariousness of the system is noted by the voice of both students and teachers, all in the same fight for better conditions and rights, this is the Penguin revolution, which largely accomplished its mission and left its mark which will never be erased, that Chilean education will never be sold so easily.

The year is 2019 and it is being noticed again and more and more often the annoyance of the educational environment, environment which each time is more divided and has less strength in their hands. the educational unemployment is leaving in a bad state hundreds of students who are studying 4 medium because the same year the call is made that from now on they will leave much earlier to take their famous "PSU" test, but unfortunately there is no other way to demand to the state the rights that should belong to teachers. many teachers are in favor of the famous law “safe classroom” to which the students respond with their maximum rejection, more than 80 special forces officers surrounding the number 1 high school Javiera Carrera (for girls),Students being locked up and treated as terrorists in their own establishment while the others are not doing very well either: Mayor Alessandri threatens to close one of the most emblematic establishments in Chile after the events of the same year where millions of pesos have been spent on tear gas canisters for the "national institute", special forces entering the establishment during school hours and taking the students into custody and one of them injured, in danger of losing his eye due to bullets that came at him (bullets fired from of FFEE officials)… all this and more in which it was once one of the best public high schools in the country. I think that it is not necessary to see the situation of the old best high school in Chile, go deeper into each event that occurs in the year 2019,no? Since what happened in that establishment reveals the conditions and the state in which municipal education is located, education which in its practical theory is not very useful when it comes to educating 100% of its students, due to to that this same could not boast of being effective, there are no excuses, public education is bad from its base which does not try to change to improve.

And… how is the education system supposed to work without all these setbacks?

(retroactive circle of pedagogy)

Let's talk a little about what we mean by a circle… already? We refer in this case to that which in terms of circumference is concerned, does not have an end, at least easy to find, therefore it will be repeated countless because it does not have a predicted term or incorporated into it. aware that this will be used as a mere metaphor to refer to a precarious system which makes no effort to change, we would only be left to ask ourselves… why?

Well, since despite the fact that the system is very poor, as it is proposed from theory to implementation in (municipal) establishments, it continues to be incorporated as a reference to teach, independently of new ideas or teaching systems, these always start from the basis that In itself is wrong, this in a nutshell is the putting into action of conglomerating a multitude of children doing things that do not start with a child, what do I mean? To what we all know; take precedence over the freedom of independent growth and intellectual development by making it compulsory to participate in a system in which the same child can be harmed without ever having been able to give a word due to its rational unconsciousness, unconsciousness which is taken into account so as not to listen to his opinion credibility weak due to his age but is not considered when trying to get him to enter because of the importance of the fact that he approves his subjects and learns from them due to that their future will depend on this, a future which seems to be trying to boycott by putting it in the hands of the person at an age in which it is known from the general culture and experience of each person that it is not adequate for taking decisions correct or at least according to what we really want due to the lack of wisdom in these same actions.future which seems to be trying to boycott by putting it in the hands of the person at an age in which it is known from the general culture and experience of each person that it is not adequate for correct or at least appropriate decision making to what we really want due to the lack of wisdom in these same actions.future which seems to be trying to boycott by putting it in the hands of the person at an age in which it is known from the general culture and experience of each person that it is not adequate for correct or at least appropriate decision making to what we really want due to the lack of wisdom in these same actions.

It seems like the perfect system, right? One way to make you believe that you are totally responsible for that your intellect life is precarious, to make you believe that it was because of bad decisions of your own, independent of the great "opportunities" that were granted to you thanks to the state, you ended up having a life you never wanted, all for not having been fully mature in your adolescence nor concentrating on what you hated when you were a whole child (aware when the state wants but irrational when the state benefits), it's your fault! They wanted you great but you wasted your time, time that you never had the option to use since independent of what you think, if you don't do what they tell you, you have no other option.

(FALL IN THE SYSTEM)

The problem in itself lies entirely in how the system is made, since if you succeed thanks to it, you yourself will be the one who supports the educational system which helped you so much, you will believe that those who do not comply with it as you are inept or people which they never put in their efforts and simply did not take advantage of the system, you will believe that it is perfect and your mind will close enough to believe that there are no greater intellectual capacities to take advantage of in the human being and you will see all those who are incapable to memorize as people who do not deserve a future because they simply do not try hard enough, since you cannot be in everyone's shoe you will not know if it is more or less complicated for them, in a few words; you will think what the government wants you to think, that everything is for you and those who do not strive do not succeed like you! So yes, you deny all that ability other than memorizing…

However in the saucepan of failure you will not necessarily become aware of how everything works if you do not get frustrated, because for the government of Chile the humanities are stupid you will fall into depression but you will not know, you think it was your fault, that everything is good and you are the one who does not serve in the world, you are useless and the only thing that awaits you is a life of double effort thanks to your decisions, therefore when you have a child you strive the same or more than the one who triumph in that you Son, I managed to follow to the letter that system that you could not carry out, so that child will be exposed to twice the pressure to do things "well", since that not only holds his future but also that of your family, perfect system don't you think?

Really things are not as before and education is increasingly complex and is getting worse as far as the demand for intellectual performance is concerned; Every time it is more matter that is requested but we continue with the same time to do it, nobody cares about the social or mental conditions of the student and those patches with which they try to cover this lack of attention to students outside the mathematical field do not work for nothing and has never really benefited the student, this is clearly a difficult mission for an establishment since many times there are more than 1,000 students who are in these but if so,why do we allow this? Why do we allow this sum of students if the conditions, as well as the personnel and infrastructure, do not allow human development according to the age of those who have to study.

The lack of attention is increasingly worse in young people and not because they have changed, but now is when education demands the most, while internally the student also has problems which he will have to postpone because the high school needs it focused, independent of the life comes hard for everyone, we are talking about being blinded by the fact that in 15 years mental illness in young people has increased in a horrifying way, the fact that a teenager has a panic crisis is almost normalized, which until a few years ago It was totally abnormal, this is not the bad thing in history, since the family disintegration in the 20th century is more to blame for this, here what is causing problems is the fact that the institution tries to take care of a child by having it from 8 in the morning until many times more than 5 in the afternoon, half the day, this only to later demand that he study in their house, it does not look strange but if you take into account that they are trying to take care of the students most of the time and they are not trained for it, everything becomes a little strange, the teachers are not prepared to do the function of social worker and many times they have to fulfill this on a smaller scale and the managers of the establishments do not know how to deal with family problems, which enter the institution through the student by having them locked up for so long without giving them the opportunity to express themselves or feel supported by someone,This is not the fault of the lyceums, it is the fault of the government since in the attempt to "train better" it ends up welcoming generations only to give them a correct course as to how to solve a mathematical problem but not to make them develop as psychologically prepared people.

The institution is generating a war even if it is inadvertently, it is generating thousands of conflicts which do not worry them because, after all, it does not reach them, rather it is the establishments that suffer the consequences many times of what it orders. the Mineduc, they are not prepared for what they forged and they will not be until there is a change in the unconscious system in which they are governed until today.

(the teachers)

The role of a teacher is as important as that of a doctor since the development and learning of the student during the time in which he is his tutor will depend on this… it will depend on whether the student is able to understand what he is trying to teach Basically that's what you specialize for, right? Well, that's right… the problem starts when they don't let you fulfill this function, who? the student? Not; the institution that "should watch over the teachers as much as the student, but the facts show that it is not, this is due to specific problems in each classroom or course, such as: no learning material to lean on, schedules or shifts imposed that are not They defend the teacher in terms of mental health or attrition, zero support from the establishment's directive or simply negligence when it comes to infrastructure.Although there are also the most general problems which generate a dysfunction in the classrooms, these such as the fact of having more than 35 students in each classroom, which according to studies has shown that the number of students per classroom does infers when it comes to the general results of the students, it is assumed that in basic education the amount should not exceed 28 students and in middle education hopefully not exceed 33 students per classroom, since this not only hinders the student himself generating an instant separation of learning about those who have a greater capacity for concentration before those who do not, but it also makes it difficult for the teacher to do their class effectively or reaching each student making everyone learn,Faced with this, the state, as always trying to provide patch solutions, tried to make all those who "made teaching difficult in the classroom" medicated, which they did, but quickly demonstrated that this simply harmed the students with poor attention only. to give a greater plus to the students who did not have problems with that, thus demonstrating the minimum interest that the government has to give real solutions and that in terms of social means… everything is a patch, fortunately this has been disappearing as the pass of time but not the problem in the classrooms, the teachers continue with that difficulty to teach in just two hours (often counting on just one) to 40 students who, at their age, are supposed to be attentive and seated.

Teachers as such are not bad, the institution really does not want them to be able to teach in a good way, the teacher himself can only teach effectively and efficiently only with the appropriate conditions if he is hired in a private establishment or subsidized… to what public education is left behind, not because of the quality of the student since this is the one that is affected if the teacher cannot provide a class as he should or would like, nor does the teacher have the responsibility or the fault If not one of those who run without ever having set foot in a public educational setting or even more, never having ever been related to pedagogy.

(institutional negligence)

Actually this as you must be thinking is not on purpose by the institutions and attempts have been made to remedy it, as with the redistribution of students depending on the area thanks to the internet, which as we see when it comes to those who have not given results or at least not the most prosperous… since there are still establishments with a capacity that at one time reached up to 3,000 students, with seats being occupied by only 300 at the moment, while other lyceums that are more popular or attention by its municipality in charge due to the prestige of it occupy an exorbitant number of students exceeding 3,000, basically it is a problem with a solution but it has not been put into practice in the way it is due, going back to the above,This is a sign that it is not really the act of provoking something on the part of the state but rather that it is the zero real concern that ends up damaging in this way.

It is worrying that each time more the time lapses in which demonstrations against education are generated are increasingly closer, and this thanks to the fact that we continue to try to carry out a reformism which tends to be unnecessary when it comes to In practice due to their base which is not intended for these times, they try to change aspects of education (who knows for what purpose) that do not give results because, as I clarified previously, these changes are made based structurally on an education created quite a long time ago, which was successful because it was well implemented at that time.

(competitiveness)

Competitiveness, that which is presented to us as something to which we should cling in terms of education but in reality is the cancer of it. We all think that life is difficult and therefore the only solution to this is to prepare young people for a world full of that competitiveness, but I ask the following question; Should we sacrifice their learning for their ability to compete?

Clarifying the previous question, I mean that due to this competence and demand from the parents, the children end up doing everything but learning to be able to have a good grade, this is either independent “cheating” or cheating in other ways, reaching higher levels at higher levels, this thanks to the fact that the test does not want to measure how much the student has learned, but rather if it is capable of being "competitive" enough to pass the course. As you can imagine, this has super serious consequences such as the teacher in charge is not really aware of whether their students are learning or not, complicating both their work and that of the student since they are forced to have that good grade, that independent has learned or not, it must have it.

So what?

Logically, education needs a new system that can be compatible with the needs and budgets that municipal lyceums have, since it would be useless to copy the elite private system that opus Dei lyceums have, for example, since these Despite being successful as far as their education is concerned, they are based on their possibilities thanks to their budget and the favorable circumstances of the students who can afford a college of that category. We must focus on what we can achieve by forming from the root a system in favor of students and teachers trying to return to what at the time favored education and that can be compatible with modern times,How to make the teacher the authority that was without reaching the aggressive point or also trying to focus on the humanistic and scientific intellectual capacities of each student without being indifferent to and supporting their social situation, a fairly complex and almost unattainable mission is heard, but Following correct measures and worried that these are well governed, it is quite likely that perhaps it will not work perfect but that it will bear much more satisfactory fruits, which is giving this system so old in itself, there are no bad students, only lost students in them. themselves and the establishments if they could deliver a better job but we do not know which job they should deliver or in what way, we do not seek perfection since it does not existwe are looking for an improvement in the educational system thought about what a lyceum and a municipal school really are, not the ideal that we have of it, let's open our eyes, a worker will not stop being a worker because he is more educated, he will simply be a conscious worker and as worthy of respect as any citizen, outside the provisional truths of the system and to create a system to prepare a better chili, based on education.
