When a company has a manager who plans properly, it is already adding to its success, when this process is carried out, an integral effort is developed within the organization and thus see things as a whole and join forces for its coordination always keeping in mind to focus on what is relevant and create the structure for action.

Anyone who truly wants to be a manager and therefore carry out a responsible and successful management must know how to plan since it is the basis of all other business processes, but for this, it must have several basic elements, among the most outstanding are:

According to Goodstein, 1998: "It is the process of setting objectives and choosing the most appropriate means to achieve them before taking action"

According to Jiménez, 1982: "Planning is a decision-making process to achieve a desired future, taking into account the current situation and the internal and external factors that can influence the achievement of objectives"

Planning in a summarized way is that process that is designed to achieve a goal, now it must be understood that it must be flexible and be able to adapt to extraordinary situations and also that it must be conceived as a process that will always be renewed in order to evolve. every time.

When planning situations and indicators are foreseen, undoubtedly the future element is involved in this process, for the manager who has a planning it will serve him in a decision-making process as rational as possible, making him a guiding medium in everything ambit.

Planning will help us understand our present and it will be where the path to where we want to go is traced, for this we must know very well the company its weaknesses and strengths and its environment since we will leverage it in the execution of a plan (objectives, policies, procedures, rules, budgets among others) always establishing priorities.

There are a few basic questions that should always be present when planning:

  • What do you want to achieve and for what? How to achieve it? By when?

And once that objective is achieved, the cycle must continue with another without leaving aside the question

It is difficult to imagine the success of a company without planning, among other things, that is why the most relevant advice in this aspect of management is that they always have planning, and that it is oriented to action and evaluation, good planning with a great paper plan will do us no good if we never take it into action.

Alan Lakein said that "to fail to plan is to plan to fail"

He also said that "planning is bringing the future to the present so that you can do something about it now"

And the great Peter Drucker told us that "long-term planning is not thinking about future decisions but about the future of present decisions"

We must make planning a habit and thus we will get used to being more effective.
