Leadership and rebuke in our times

Anonim

When conducting an analysis of obedience and reprimand in the exercise of leadership, we realize that leadership has changed a lot in recent decades, what hasn't changed? We have passed from the era where autocratic leadership predominated, where all authority and responsibility was concentrated in the leader, to its opposite, with a liberal leadership.

There is nothing wrong with this inherently, the problem is that perhaps this change is not because it has been deliberately considered the best but because society has changed and the leaders have only been reactionary. Let me explain: at present there is no respect due to authority, parents, teachers, politicians, businessmen, they are no longer respected as they were some years ago. The new generations have the attitude of judging authority whether or not they have arguments to do so.

Therefore, in new work teams, leaders face complex situations in order to enforce their authority and apply the necessary counterclaims and reprimands when the occasion warrants.

Let us exemplify: a member of an altruistic organization, had to obtain permission to be able to organize an event in a public space, but due to negligence he does not obtain it, so the event has to be canceled. It is the leader's duty to reprimand said member, because his actions have affected the achievement of the organization's goals. But, what happens in our days? Employees tend to assume an attitude of "it's not my fault", and if they recognize it they think "who are you to tell me something?" So the leader assumes a non-confrontational attitude to avoid problems, and things just stay that way, with a failed activity and no one learning from it.

This is not healthy for any organization, since if people fail and nothing happens, the message that others receive is that it is not so important to comply, and then everyone defaults on their obligations and commitments, sooner rather than later. leads to the disintegration of the organization. In addition, the boss, not wanting to lose the sympathy of the member who failed, ends up earning the contempt of everyone, including him. Therefore, counterclaim and reprimand are absolutely necessary in work teams.

In this regard, the great author Gastón Courtois tells us that counterclaim and reprimand are a duty of the boss. In the absence of any of his subordinates, he owes him a punishment, not to satisfy his anger, but because it is fair. That is the essence of our subject, it is reprimanded for the principle of justice not because I have been angry, saddened or offended, this is not the important thing. By not reprimanding and punishing properly and at the right moment, it is you, the leader, who is now failing in front of the subordinate.
