Companies with a team of truly efficient and competent people make more profit. It is people who make companies successful.
A group of these workers will perform manual tasks where skill, training and talent allow them to become increasingly competent using machinery and equipment, or their own hands to perform specific tasks that can be physically measured with various instruments.
Other people work with their minds, with their knowledge gained through education, study, and intellectual training. Some of them use machinery, computers, instruments or the word. They are called "knowledge workers". How you measure your performance is somewhat different.

To measure the productivity of knowledge workers, famed consultant Peter Drucker recommends asking these same workers the following questions:
- What is your task?
- What should it be?
- What should this company expect from you?
- What is hindering you to do your homework and what should be eliminated?
- What do you get paid for in this company?
- Why should this company?
As an entrepreneur you can often recover the investment you make in your knowledge workers; but you should be clear that they are measured differently than how manual workers are measured. Why, why and how much? These are questions that must be answered by each of the knowledge workers that your company needs.
