How to deal with disappointment in a job change

What can you do when after a change you find that things are not as you expected? When you feel disappointed in your new job, for example, and you have just started or have only been a short time.

A reader asked me recently and you may be or have been through the same situation. What to do then? Because if you just arrived you are not going to leave now, right? Or if?

It is a very frustrating situation and these are my suggestions if this is your case:

1. Do not rejoice in the decision made.

Right now it's easy to get carried away by repentance and start pondering why you decided to make the change, blaming yourself or others. I understand that it is difficult not to do it but it is useless, it does not take you anywhere and only brings resentment when what you need is a solution. So turn the page and focus on the present.

2. Can you do something to improve your situation?

Sometimes we need a time to relocate, adapt and assume the new role, that is, a period of transition after which you feel like a fish in the water again. Because even if the change was your decision, every new situation involves a period of adaptation and maybe you just need a little more time.

Another option is that the conditions of this new situation have not been clear, so it is time to clarify them, the sooner the better, so you can decide whether to continue or not because it was not agreed.

In the event that it is agreed but does not satisfy you, we move on to the next point.

3. Analyze the alternatives you have.

It has to be realistic, if you cannot change what does not satisfy you and if it is not a matter of adaptation, then what alternatives do you have? Hold on and try to improve the circumstances, start looking for something else or train you again. Of course you are lazy and you will not want anything, but what other options do you have? If you really feel frustrated and do not like what you do, it is time to change, and it does not matter if you have been like this for a long or short time.

It does not take many years to make a change, you do not need any justification or endure just because "you have been little like this."

If you are sure that what you do is not what you want and that it will not improve no matter what you do, get down to work and look for something new. Can you think of another option?
