How to lose the fear of public speaking

Public speaking is a skill that causes more than one fear, even some that are more used to it.

Learn in this article how to remove that fear.

Being a business woman, it is normal that on more than one occasion we are given the circumstance in which we must address an audience. On those occasions we are afraid of making a fool of ourselves, not finding the right word or running out of words. This is all quite common.

And really worst of all, it's the same fear and nervousness. To avoid it, it is important to be as well prepared as possible for that moment, and thus put your nerves below minimum.

The first thing to lose that fear is to face it. You can start with small groups of people, you can even start with a single person and gradually increase.

I will teach you some guidelines, to reduce that state of nerves.

Analyze Circumstances.

Before preparing a public conference, it is important that you analyze all the possible data of the situation that is going to happen.

The type of audience that will listen to you, the knowledge that your audience has on the subject, the number of people that will attend, the duration of it… etc.

If it is possible for you to go a few days before to the place where the conference is going to be held, I advise you to do so so that you can examine the situation in which you are going to see yourself. How are you going to be positioned with respect to your audience. The characteristics and possibilities that the room has such as putting slides, sound, spaciousness, capacity, etc.….

Prepare well

Once you have the previous data, you can now prepare your talk.

Make an outline, and you speak naturally about each of the points in the outline.

Practice at home to see the time it takes you and make sure you cover the expected time of your talk.

Try to speak slowly, loudly, clearly and vocalizing. Use the smile, (it is something that will relax you and will open a good tune with your listeners).

If you don't have experience, better stay seated.

Until you gain experience, I advise you not to give way to pleas and questions, since being something you have to improvise, your nerves can betray you very easily. This is solved with a speech that occupies all the time and with that excuse you will not give rise to questions.

Being well prepared, in addition to taking a lot of nerve, is going to make everything go perfect.

Necessary material

I advise you to use slides or power point presentations, as they encourage the talk, distract the attention of the public about you and serve as support to avoid being left blank.

In case you do not have that possibility, you can use cards, to carry in your hand during the talk and not miss the order of what you are going to talk about.

You can also use videos, which limit your exposure time to the public and also prevent people from getting bored, they are a very interesting support. (You can use several in the same presentation).

Make sure you have all the necessary material. Whether it's a computer for the power point, the support cards (you can also carry both).

Follow these three steps that I indicate and as soon as you have exposed yourself two or three times, there will be no one to stop you.
