Tips to improve decision making

Anonim

"Nothing is as difficult as making a decision" Napoleon Bonaparte.

Decision is undoubtedly a popular and frequently used word. Anyone knows the meaning perfectly since it is an act closely linked to human nature. Deciding is said to mean taking a position. It involves two or more alternatives under consideration and the person who decides will have to choose between them.

To implement a decision it is necessary that we trust the decision and ourselves, as this will be reflected in others. We must also delegate, that is, grant authority and responsibility to subordinates. This will allow us to dedicate ourselves to the most important activities, while detailed and routine functions are delegated, responsibility is shared, becoming more significant, subordinates are motivated by making them participate in the achievement of objectives and are trained in certain important decisions. It will be necessary to be very careful in what is delegated, so it is necessary to clearly delimit the authority and delegated responsibility, preferably in writing, in order to avoid conflicts, duplication of functions, flight of authority; clearly specify goals and objectives of the delegated function;train the staff to whom it will be delegated; establish performance standards in such a way that initiative, creativity and loyalty to the organization are encouraged; show interest in the performance of the employee, in relation to the delegated function and recognize good performance and trust in subordinates.

An important aspect for making a decision is communication, which must be clear; For this, the language in which it is expressed and the way of transmitting it must be accessible to whoever is addressing it; it must serve as an integrating link between the members of the company to achieve the maintenance of the necessary cooperation in order to achieve the objectives.

Clarity and fidelity in communication depend on the state of the environment and the relationships between the source and the receiver. People do not notice the fact that their actions communicate as much as their words. The message that the actions convey is often more vigorous than the verbal one. Nonverbal communication is part of virtually everything a supervisor or manager does. It is also part of what it does not do, because lack of action is also communicating. Another part of non-verbal communication is body language, which consists of the emission of highly precise messages about your true state of mind, your intentions and your problems.

On the other hand, motivation is a very important task because through it the execution of the work is achieved. The desire of all human beings is to fulfill themselves through the development of their own potential and to feel identified with a work group to achieve common ends; By doing this, you increase your productivity. The worker must be emotionally and mentally integrated into the situation of the work group and the objectives of the company through active participation in decisions.

When implementing a decision you always have to have alternative paths, a contingency plan in case something does not go as expected, this will ensure the success of the decision and not stop the march and achieve the objectives set.

It is necessary to have an anticipated vision of what could happen, since this will allow us to make future decisions, measure risks and achieve our goals. It is said that every leader must be a visionary since the direction of companies, resources and people depends on him. Without leadership, finally, an organization would be a confusion of people and machines, in the same way that an orchestra without a conductor are only musicians and instruments.
