The importance of copaes to higher education in Mexico

Anonim

Little is known about the accrediting bodies but this does not mean that they are not important, on the contrary, due to the course of the years of study it is possible to know about them, since there are many bodies for the accreditation of University Education, since these allow it to be valid and credible. For this reason, it is vital and extremely important for Higher Education Institutions to be accredited and certified, since when they do so, they can be considered among the best higher institutions in the country. It is in this situation that I have opted for the Council for the Accreditation of Higher Education (COPAES), this is an instance trained and created by the federal government, through the Secretary of Public Education (SEP) from which it assigns formal recognition to Academic programs,offered by public or private institutions. In addition to being closely related to the functions carried out by the educational authorities.

Given this circumstance, the recognition that COPAES grants, allows the regulation of accrediting bodies and accreditation processes in the various areas of knowledge, in order to avoid possible conflicts of interest and to inform society about the quality of a higher level study program, particularly to prospective students, parents and employers who are the beneficiaries of this type of program.

It has its immediate antecedent in the evaluation processes that acquired increasing importance in the world, from the decade of the eighties. Therefore, it is understood that COPAES seeks to give certainty to students regarding the quality of the institutions;

that is why education needs to be at the forefront of demands and commitment to the environment.

I have considered that in order to have a better understanding of the importance of this issue, it is necessary to give the meaning that it is certification and accreditation which makes them outstanding factors of the quality of higher education institutions (IES).

Certification: is aimed at evaluating the degree of compliance of products and services with respect to certain standards. Demonstrating to clients, suppliers, employees, competitors and investors that higher education institutions (HEIs) employ the best recognized practices in their sector. In addition to showing stakeholders that the teaching-learning process works effectively. Are mention of what it consists of:

  • Obtaining and maintaining certification, in the same way, helps to guarantee the continuous improvement and improvement of university activities, improve overall performance, eliminate mistrust, and expand opportunities for graduates of higher education institutions. internal and external, which improves the responsibility, commitment and motivation of employees.

Accreditation: means "to give confidence" to those who are interested and it recognizes the technical competence of an organization to carry out certain well-defined activities of evaluation giving conformity, of which it allows the IES to give benefits that are mentioned below just to name Some:

  • Balance in the results of the teaching-learning process Promote international recognition Organization in university functions Functions and responsibilities of teaching and administrative staff Certainty in the results they provide Be a model HEI for the education sector Provide trust and security to different sectors of society.

There is a worldwide tendency to evaluate everything related to the areas and aspects of society, this as a result of the global environment in which we live immersed, which is becoming more and more competitive in the lives of individuals. It is important to emphasize an interesting fact is that there are currently more than 25 accrediting bodies in Mexico and the body in charge of certifying their performance is COPAES. With the credibility that these provide, the construction of a System for the Accreditation of Educational Programs that the institutions offered began in 2001.

In such a way that these have as their primary task to guarantee that the accreditations granted by the accrediting bodies it recognizes are equitable, technically supported and endorsed by professionals with full capacity and experience, both in their own disciplines, as well as in the field of education and the evaluation.

This has been manifested in the policies and programs that governments around the world have undertaken, supported by international organizations such as: the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Organization for Cooperation and Economic Development (OCEDE), among others.

Through the accreditation that the organizations offer, the student obtains the security that he / she is studying a quality academic program, and also accesses additional benefits such as international exchange in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) that offer them, as a An essential element to contemplate student exchange in this area is that the student comes from an academic program accredited for its "quality"; bringing with it a further interest in studying this level of study, in order to obtain greater learning that will serve you throughout your work and professional life.

CONCLUSION

Finally, it can be said that having a notion of the accrediting bodies allows us to know what the aforementioned benefits are, which they bring with them to improve the quality of the academic programs of Higher Education Institutions (IES), thanks to the fact that they provide safety for learners.

Promoting a greater awakening to the number of applicants to carry out their studies at a higher level, with this, the number of enrollments would increase, favoring in any case the universities, as it would grant a better recognition of this. In addition, many young people would have an excellent academic level in their previous training. And of course promote greater responsibility, a better commitment of those who make up the institution, thus obtaining a good motivation.

As a proposal: I propose that universities be made aware of what accreditation bodies consist of and the importance they have in educational institutions, so that the people who make up said institution put more effort into what they do, favoring the process teaching-learning.
