Difficulties for teachers in the colonche, ecuador area to develop scientific research in tourism

Anonim

This work was carried out from the analysis of the report corresponding to the first cycle issued by the evaluation, execution and control subcommittee of the teaching-learning process of the University Extension of Colonche. The stated objective was to determine the causes that favor the difficulty of developing scientific research in tourism in the University faculty. To carry out the study, the following methods were applied: empirical analytical method, scientific observation method, and interviews. The application of these methods allowed to reach important conclusions: diffuse orientation regarding the true meaning of what scientific research represents, teachers have at least two jobs, and consequently little time to dedicate to research.

Introduction

The human being almost from birth and through the different times has always been concerned with discovering new methods to improve the functions performed. Even more in the educational field, with the appearance of ICT, teachers must constantly update their knowledge to keep up with technology, demand and the demands of the markets. Today's university requires that the teacher be versatile, researcher, leader, charismatic, who is able to contribute new knowledge through scientific research. Hence the importance of mastering the art of doing research projects that lead not only to the transfer of new knowledge but to the generation of it. By virtue of this, the present study was carried out in order to assess the degree of research that the Peninsula University of Santa Elena has through its teachers, the percentage of teaching researchers, the number of scientific articles published by their teachers. The degree and significance of contribution to science through research.

Based on this observation and evaluation process, the main causes that contribute to the low investigative performance of teachers in the university faculty were determined. Therefore, a viable alternative solution was proposed, which improves this situation and enhances activity and investigative quality in the teacher.

Development

During the first part of this academic year, the monitoring of teaching performance was carried out as usual through the review of the study plans and the methodological foundations or lesson plans presented by the teachers, being able to note the weaknesses in the construction of the themselves and the difficulty they had to propose and translate the scientific research work to be carried out during the academic period with the students.

After this, classroom visits were made to observe, monitor and evaluate the teaching performance and the teaching-learning process, making the pertinent suggestions in order to achieve constant improvement and academic excellence. During the classroom evaluations, a common factor was noted among the teachers: the lack of knowledge and mastery of the evaluation methods, organizational modalities and strategies used by the university in the development of the different chairs. A survey was also conducted with the students in order to know the opinion regarding the performance of the professors.

In addition to the aforementioned, a fundamental element to take corrective actions was the review of the report issued by the evaluation, execution and control subcommittee of the teaching-learning process of the University Extension of Colonche, which showed the imperative need to train the teachers in those subjects of greater relevance such as: Scientific Research Methodology: formative and Generative, micro and meso-curricular development: analytical plans and lesson plans, and preparation, formulation and execution of projects.

For all the aforementioned, the Project “Training for the teachers of the Colonche Extension” was prepared on various topics in order to contribute to the improvement of teaching performance.

The implementation of this project had the full support of the director of the Extension and the favorable reception of the participating teachers and professionals with a long history and academic and professional excellence who generously and disinterestedly accepted to be the speakers at the aforementioned workshops.

This project had a dual purpose, the first was to contribute to teaching performance through the continuous training program and the second objective was to determine the causes that lead to the difficulty of developing scientific research in the cloister of the university extension in order to make a proposal that encourages, promotes and enhances scientific research in teachers.

To carry out the study, the following methods were applied: empirical analytical method, scientific observation method, interviews, documentation review, analysis with experts in the field. The application of these methods allowed to reach important conclusions knowing the main causes that favor the impediment of the development of scientific research, among the most relevant we can mention:

- Fuzzy orientation regarding the true meaning of what scientific research represents.

- Teachers have at least two jobs, and as a consequence little time to dedicate to scientific research and continuous training.

- Little interest in carrying out research activities that generate knowledge and are a contribution to science.

When determining that these causes represented a constant factor in teachers, the aforementioned proposal was raised, this project was immediately launched, prioritizing the Research Methodology workshop aimed at the development of scientific research projects with a duration of two credits, Another strategy was the creation of an instruction manual for the hiring of teaching staff in which the training and periodic updating of knowledge is proposed, carry out at least one scientific research work every two years and present at least one publication in a specialty magazine every three years.

Methodology used:

To carry out the present work, the following methods were used:

Scientific observation

method Empirical analytical method

Interviews

Documentation review and analysis with experts in the field

Conclusions

In conclusion, after having carried out this research project, it is concluded that:

Constant training is a prevailing element of those who teach at all levels of knowledge.

The evaluation should be an instrument that allows detecting weaknesses by analyzing the current situation and, in response to this analysis, an improvement plan is implemented in all cases.

Teachers recruited for more than their academic training and professional experience must have a high investigative and entrepreneurial spirit.

Universities and institutions in general must support the self-training and updating of knowledge of their collaborators in order to pursue the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of the work performed; To promote the aforementioned, a regulation should be created that promotes and encourages constant training.

Not all people have a sense of belonging and a high spirit of collaboration that I sought to develop the institution and the community.
