Effect of bad news on the human brain

Anonim

The bad news is bad news.

How many of us have turned on the television while zapping, and as we passed one after another of movie channels, we couldn't say which one to leave, until we saw that something was happening on the news about a collapse, or an accident, or a robbery., or a violation, and it immediately caught our attention and we left that channel?

This is no coincidence, neither of the two things: that we stay tuned to that channel, nor that the media put that news.

Bad News Effect Human Brain

There is a primitive function of our brain, the amygdala (set of nuclei of neurons), which constantly checks all the information that reaches the brain through the different senses in order to quickly detect anything that may influence our survival.

If we are in our room, lying on our bed, eating something peacefully and zapping; and suddenly we see a news story about a robbery, an accident, a catastrophe, or perhaps, an attempted robbery! In other words, something that never happened, our amygdala will make us pay attention to that over anything else; Remember that the brain processes what we see on television in, almost, the same way as if we were living the experience.

This effect would pass quickly, that is why the newscasts are not satisfied with giving us just one news item, but they go one after the other. As if they were giving drugs to a drug addict, they give dangerous experiences to our amygdala.

“The human brain is not designed to make us happy, but to survive. Happiness is our job. ” -Anthony Robbins

In the same way that we take care of the food and drinks that enter our mouth, we must take care of the stimuli that we receive through our eyes. If we let our brains decide everything for us, we would eat a hamburger with a soda, then a cake with more soda, and we would finish off the night eating some chocolates. We know this would end in poor physical health. In the same way, if we let our brain take control of what we see, we will end up in poor mental health.

From now on, the bad news is bad news. Let's turn off the TV! Let's read a book, let's chat with the people we love the most, let's go outdoors.

Happiness and relaxation in the Human Brain

We all know that physical nourishment is bad, and that is why we can avoid them. Now we know why bad news draws our attention, and why paying attention to it is a biological function, which we can avoid so as not to cause unnecessary discomfort in our lives. Now we can avoid them!

If this information is useful to you, share it with others. If you share it with others, you can chat with them about it, and consolidate the idea more and more in the awareness of your environment, and society. Let's create a healthier world!
