Summary

Discrimination within organizations can occur for different reasons, be it because of their gender, race, social condition, sexual preferences, culture, language, etc.

Currently there are laws that protect our rights, however these are not enough for the owners of the companies to put aside discrimination as the same possibilities of having both a man and a woman management.

No matter how many laws exist, as long as the fact that we are all equal and have the same rights is not instilled as education, discrimination within companies cannot be fought.

Introduction

Despite the fact that in our country there is constant talk of equality between men and women, in recent years we cannot speak of true equality between them. It's almost impossible to change everything in one fell swoop.

Employment discrimination is and has been one of the most common forms of repression in various societies, cultures and at all times. Discrimination is made on the basis of age, gender, sexual preference, nationality, religion, profession, etc.

II.- Background

The antecedents of discrimination began in the 18th century when the Spanish arrived in Mexico. Most of the population of New Spain was made up of Creoles and Spaniards, the other part of the population were castes and slaves who were exploited and without rights.

The castes were also victims of racial discrimination, they made up the working class of the city, mines and transportation, the blacks gave them the heaviest jobs, such as mining, the sugar mill, plantations and haciendas, the indigenous suffered injustices, jobs heavy, and exhausting, the pay was very minimal, the weight of the colonial economy rested on them.

Later, the indigenous population suffered social discrimination, that is, they were subjected to different kinds of taxes and carried out very heavy jobs in agriculture, mining and haciendas.

Currently, not only in these areas there is discrimination but also in others, such as discrimination based on sexual preferences, way of being, way of dressing, etc. All of these occur in organizations, whether large or small.

III.- Development

Discrimination can be defined as the distinction or differentiation that is made for or against a person or thing compared to others. Social discrimination is made when distinctions are made between people on grounds of class or category without considering individual merit. Some examples of social discrimination are race, gender, age, nationality, religion, disability, sexual orientation, height, and weight.

Gender roles tend to remain the same, to fix and anchor the different behaviors that are considered correct for men and for women, that is why despite the formal equality between both sexes that a society can enjoy, it is possible discover a very accentuated tendency to judge differently the actions carried out by women and those carried out by men. The control exercised by society is more severe and offers more resistance to feminine change. If a company has a vacancy for a management position, it is much more frequent to find that they prefer that it be filled by a man than by a woman, despite the fact that we begin to see that women are occupying a minority of senior management positions.

Currently, if we access the labor market, we realize that there are still many companies that continue to lean towards employing men as a priority over women, and we see that they also have preference in the processes not only of selection but also in those of promotion; women sometimes receive lower wages than men for doing the same job, on the other hand, the temporary employment rate is still higher among women than men and we see that contracts are not renewed for pregnant women, and it is also very It is notorious that to hire a woman they first ask her to take a pregnancy test. The context is social; Gender discrimination does not occur individually, since representations of both sexes are necessary for this situation to occur:at least one female and one male.

In Mexico, many of the things that are possible today for women have been necessary achievements to try to achieve gender equality, the incorporation of women into the world of work, the creation of legislation to defend cases of violence against women or even the vote.

Even though advertising has been working in recent years, putting into circulation modern solutions to the needs of today's world, the approach that is usually given is more aesthetic than substantive, despite the fact that there is talk of the consequences of incorporating women into the world At work, reality continues to indicate that there is no equitable treatment of men and women within the advertising discourse (Melin-Higgins, 2001). Upon receiving information from different spheres, we realize that values ​​that place women in levels of subordination and dependence continue to be reproduced, the home and care continue to be the main priorities for women and we see that work outside the home continues to seem natural to award it to men.

We think that currently women can earn a salary thanks to the education they have received and are no longer only subject to the administration of the home and the care of their children, in any case discrimination continues, even if a man is equal to a woman, it is not they are considered equal for the purposes of assigning them a salary, nor are they considered equal to perform some tasks such as mechanics or electricity for example. Women should have the same opportunities to get a job.

IV.- Conclusion

In conclusion, we can say that even though there is a Federal Law to Prevent and Eliminate Discrimination and certain sanctions for companies that exercise this act, Mexico continues in the same position as some centuries ago.

At present, unfortunately, men are still given a preference over women to occupy an important or managerial position within organizations. On the other hand, sexual preferences are also a very important factor within them, since most of them deny a job to homosexual people for the simple fact of not having the tastes that society has said are correct.

An awareness is needed from the family nucleus to be able to understand that we all have the same rights and discrimination is only an act that denigrates people and can be considered as a detachment from the law.
