The work of the University of the Elderly in Morón is approached in a synthetic way, taking into account the objectives of the 2030 Agenda that come from the community activities that are carried out from its courses, mainly in the Popular Homeland Council, taking into account that There a sugar mill was established with great force in the economic and social activity of this town. Introduction

UNESCO's new Global Education Monitoring Report highlights the potential education offers to drive progress towards all the global goals set out in the new 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It also shows that, to realize this potential and respond to the problems that humanity and the planet face today, education must first go through a profound transformation that includes how to address issues relevant to aging and the elderly, this being one of the challenges humanity faces today.

To ensure that older people are not left behind, data should be better collected and analyzed, their voices should be heard in the formulation and application of policies, and discriminatory practices that exclude them from resource generation mechanisms should be eliminated. thus having the right to a pension system and health care adapted to meet their needs.

The 2030 Agenda proposes 17 goals in which it is evident that the need for economic growth is a priority for the Sustainable Development Goals, the principle of “leaving no one behind” requires that this be inclusive for all. In particular, older people and especially older women who are among the most disadvantaged.

Countries with aging populations need responses with public policies that support their older population in order to eliminate the factors that hinder their full participation in society while protecting their rights and dignity. (UN, 2013)

Cuba, despite being an underdeveloped country, has solved many of the problems faced by many people from the third world, making education for all ages a priority task. It is necessary to remember that the Cuban State from the very triumph of the Revolution, already in the conception of the country that was dreamed of, in the Moncada Program in a visionary way it was committed that our educational work was always focused on the transformation of human beings, towards self-knowledge, well-being and social integration as part of the quality of life, in the various stages through which one passes.

Regarding the progress made in the health of the population, it is revealed and specified in the life expectancy of our countrymen, which is why the creation of a care program for the elderly has become a necessity, taking into consideration that the Education is the heritage of all ages, which shows that in our country, education is for everyone and for life.

Taking into account the aging population facing Cuba, it was founded in 2000 at the University of Havana, the Universidad del

Older Adult, (CUAM), as part of the Universalization of Higher Education. The missions of the Chairs for the Elderly are diverse and dedicated to research, project consultancy and gerontological training, but their fundamental work has been the creation and development of the education program for the elderly, as an activity of university extension.

There have been numerous experiences obtained in the country, each province and locality, responding to the aspiration that the Chair for the Elderly, its Subsidiaries and Classrooms or Universities for the Elderly are also a space of contribution to the development of intergenerational relationships, in the university grounds, in the locality where it resides and in the family environment. That is why the purpose of this work is to socialize the experience accumulated in the work of the Chair in the Patria popular council, where the integration of actors committed to the development of the town and Higher Education has been fostered, encouraging the interaction of social institutions and organizations in that territory.

The older adults of this town are currently enrolled in the fourth course of continuity of studies, after graduating from the basic course of the National Program for CUAM, standing out among the topics received at their request: grandparents: relevant role in society aging, local history, courtesy, communication and behavior, self-care workshops and are currently receiving environmental thematic community activities integrated into the objectives of the 2030 Agenda, which is why the objective of the work is: Socialize the experience in the extension work that is carried out from the Chair, to promote the integration of actors committed to the development of Higher Education,encouraging the interaction of institutions and social organizations in the territory to guarantee a healthy life and promote the well-being of all and all ages, from the conception and implementation of activities for this purpose,

DEVELOPING

In the inaugural speech of the Minister of Higher Education, in the 2008 University Congress, in February of the same year in the City of Havana, he expressed:

“In the function of university extension, the municipal headquarters, with the creation of various organizational forms, among them the Chairs for the Elderly, in close collaboration with other institutions in the territory, better protect the existing cultural diversity and foster a development environment of an integral general culture, which favors the well-being of the communities ”… (Inaugural speech by the Minister for Higher Education, 2008 University Congress, February 2008, Havana City)

Obviously, the Minister recognized the work of the Senior Adult Chair, while encouraging universities to continue and deepen what has already been done. It can be considered a call for the participation of the elderly, grouped in the Chair to better protect the existing cultural diversity and promote an environment for the development of a comprehensive general culture for the sake of the well-being of the communities, of inclusion, taking into account human sensitivity and the experience accumulated by these people, in collaboration with other organizations, for the good of the community where they live and which they love.

It is the intention of the authors of this work to describe the most significant results achieved by the Chair in the period of the last four years in the aforementioned community. Initially, they were taught the basic course of the program designed for their preparation in various topics of interest taking into account the characteristics of their age, then they were incorporated into other continuity courses that were designed considering the needs of the participants, as well as the same Graduates of the basic course became promoters of the activities of the Chair in the community itself.

As explained above, in this course in the Patria popular council, through community activities, environmental issues are included, giving way to objectives of the 2030 Agenda, among which the following stand out:

Goal 4. Ensure inclusive, equitable and quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Goal 11. Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe and sustainable.

Currently the activities are carried out every 15 days with the intervention of prominent specialists in the topics to be discussed and in them the objectives of two of the social community projects developed by the University Extension work group of the Dr. Benito University Center are mixed. Llanes Recino, in Morón: The project "Living and Aging to Fullness", directed by professor Neisy Pérez Hernández and whose objective is to develop a system of activities that contributes to raising the quality of life of the elderly in the municipality and the project "Defenders of the Sustainable Environment, directed by Professor Hibo Manuel Brito González, which responds to the general objectives of:

  1. Achieve the necessary knowledge on the part of legal and natural persons about the reality of the environmental dimension of the municipality of Morón.

2.- Contribute to minimize the gap in the current state of Morón's environment, in order to achieve the desired state that the constitution of our republic proposes.

3.- Provide knowledge as ways of possible actions that lead us to sustainable community development.

Next, some of the most significant activities developed by the University Chair for the Elderly and the Department of University Extension in the Consejo Popular Patria are related, with an emphasis on community work. The venues for carrying out the activities have mainly been the local Library, the Sugar Museum or in another area chosen according to the needs of the community, if one takes into account that the number of participants has increased and counts among its Assiduous participants not only older adults, but community schools have been inserted: Camilo Cienfuegos Primary School and José Maceo Basic Secondary School, as well as community workers and population.

Activities with inmates

Exchange with inmates of the Morón Penitentiary Unit; This was carried out with the Homeland Continuity group, all belonging to the Senior Adult Chair, accompanied by the professors, officers and members of MININT.

A tour was made through the rooms of the Sugar Museum where they were explained everything related to the history of the Central Patria, in its time of sugar harvests, recognized as one of the best in yield. The steam engines that still exist and are regularly visited by tourists were shown.

Afterwards, a space was allocated to the exchange of criteria on what was observed, where a relaxed atmosphere and empathy prevailed among all participants.

Conversations with local personalities

Luis Fernández Rodríguez, who was Regional Director of Education in the territory before the Administrative Political Division was constituted and when Ciego de Ávila was declared as a province, was the first Member of the Provincial Executive Committee that attended Education, Culture and the Sport.

There was an exchange, valued as fruitful and motivating, with several interventions by the participants, interested in learning about the particularities of educational work in Morón from that time to the present, nuanced the meeting with anecdotes that impregnated a distinctive note to the activity.

The active participation of the students of the Pedagogy Interest Circle is noteworthy, who asked several questions to the lecturer, members of the Chair and other members of the community who were present, focused on how teachers were before, how they excelled, how they lived, where they were from, among others.

When the activity was evaluated, the lecturer expressed his gratitude for the meeting with various educators who participated in the Literacy Campaign and others: popular teachers, volunteer teachers, the young generation of teachers and those who aspire to be; Likewise, the older participants expressed their satisfaction for having participated in these important feats, the practicing teachers recognized the importance of having shared with protagonists of those feats and those who aspire to be teachers were very impressed because sometimes they came across these protagonists in the streets of the town and did not know how important they were and are in the formation of many people.

Larry Morales Rodríguez, Moronense writer and historian, focused his presentation on the history of the municipality. The students of the local Elderly Continuity Course, teachers and students of the José Maceo Basic Secondary School, retired teachers and teachers residing in the Popular Council, librarians belonging to the local libraries, as well as the President participated in this discussion. of the Popular Council and the director of the Sugar Museum. It was a discussion of vital importance for the knowledge of the history and specifically of the territory and of those men who made it possible.

The criteria of the participants coincided, in that they learned a lot, demonstrated in the participation in each aspect that was discussed. The ESBU "José Maceo" students asked the historian to teach them a course to learn historical and essentially local research, a question accepted by the historian.

Juan Carlos Espinosa Trujillo, President of the Dr. Benito Llanes Recino Chair and researcher on the history of Morón. He made an important dissertation at the Popular Council that had as an essential objective the knowledge of the history of Morón since its foundation as a town.

In two conferences he argued about the history of Morón and the town of Patria from its beginnings to the present day. One of the essential issues that was dealt with as part of the Community Work in the Homeland was precisely the history of this center since its foundation, corroborated by two students of the Continuity Course for the Elderly, who were workers in this entity and retired there. They are Bertha Milagros Hurtado Hernández and Evelia Esther García Bring.

In their interventions, they specified who inhabited these lands, how the central was built, its first harvest in 1916, the first constructions in the town, the first school founded in the territory, the July 26 movement, the changes that occurred after the triumph of the Revolution, first measures adopted, changes that occurred in the town and its current situation.

Arquímedes Romo Pérez, announcer for 65 years on Radio Morón and other stations in Cuba, sports commentator and professor of speech. He appeared at the Museo Azucarero de Patria to hold a discussion on the history of radio in the municipality and province.

This meeting lasted more than two hours, shared with the students of the University Chair for the Elderly and the attending guests. He exposed everything related to the history of radio and speech both in the territory and in the Avilanian province. He pointed out that the first announcer from Morón was Jorge Luis Nieto García, a native of the town of La Rosa and that he became one of the great radio broadcasters in Cuba, whose feats include being the first to broadcast a ball game by radio in Cuba at La Tropical stadium, from a mango tree. He also made reference to Pedro Carlos Royán, Nieto's partner, who was an announcer in Panama, where he served as the best in that Latin American country.

Arquímedes made reference to great announcers that the Avilanian province has given, among which he highlighted Enrique Goisueta, Manolo Ortega, Manolo Iglesias, Rafael Morales, Nelson Moreno de Ayala, Eddy Martin, Manolito Páez, Héctor Rodríguez, Rolando Crespo, Rodobaldo Hernández, Laritza Ulloa, among many others, who have made our province recognized as the Capital of Cuban Locution. He pointed out that this province has contributed 156 announcers to Cuban radio and television. He pointed out that Radio Morón currently has 6 First Level announcers nationwide, which certifies the quality of the speech in this town.

The assessment of the meeting was positive and highlighting the formulation of several questions from the attendees on the subject, and the detailed information on the history of radio both in the municipality and the province, in addition to the recognition of Arquímedes Romo Pérez as a teacher of masters in the art of speech and the incorporation of new members of the community to this meeting.

Nancy Brito Ramos, principal lecturer at the Sergio Antuña Municipal Library, as well as professor of the Librarianship Career, who has served for many years preparing various generations for life, with an eminently community work.

The lecturer referred to the role of the Reading Room in this Popular Council and the influx of public that attends there and that on the other hand is used to teach the Senior Adult courses through three consecutive courses. Nancy focused her attention on the traditions of Morón.

Other traditions that he commented were:

The lecturer fostered a favorable climate for exchange with all attendees, also answered numerous questions about the aforementioned traditions, leaving the commitment of a future visit to expand on the traditions of the town and that should be known by all its inhabitants.

Onildo Companioni Casola, professor of Physical Education, former director of the University Headquarters of Physical Culture and writer of the history of sport in the Moronense territory, made an appearance at the National Sugar Museum to establish a discussion regarding the history of this discipline in the municipality.

José Álvarez López, a rebel army fighter and former administrator of the Central Patria o Muerte, participated in this discussion, the students of the local Elderly Adult Continuity Course, professors and students of the ESBU José Maceo, retired teachers and teachers residing in the Council Popular, librarians belonging to the local Library and the ESBU, a former high-performance athlete in long-distance races, as well as the President of the Popular Council and the director of the Sugar Museum.

It basically dealt with everything related to the history of sport in this territory and essentially in the town of Patria. He specified that the sport with the greatest acceptance in Morón was always baseball and pointed out the name of athletes who practiced it such as: Napoleón Galigarcía, Rolando Almanza (Cubiles), Eulogio Vilanova (Papó), and natives of this town of Homeland: Erinaldo Morales, Melquiades Milián, Raimundo Machado (Roger's father) and José Antonio Soler (El Diablo)

This participation was illustrated with anecdotes of events that occurred, one of them was when Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro played in the homeland field and the only shirt that served him was Raimundo Machado's and it was the one he used.

He also spoke of other sports practiced in the region: soccer, volleyball, quiquimbol, nautical sports in Laguna de la Leche, long-distance races, and made allusion to Antonio Revé (Tony), a resident here in Homeland who participated in events in this discipline international. He also referred to distinguished professors of this region in sports such as René Morales, Héctor Sorí, Arsenio Machado, Daniel Rodríguez, Rigoberto Planas, Ramón Pérez (Mongo), and distinguished historians of this discipline such as the recently deceased Rafael García Bidot.

This cycle of talks was guided by the professor from the Osmel de Ávila Brito Chair and the following colleagues as special guests:

Oscar Leonard, a Haitian immigrant with more than 90 years.

  • Norberto This Plácido, descendant of Haitians, now deceased, Nancy Brito Ramos, descendant of Canaries, HooverCong Rodríguez, descendant of Chinese, Rolando Rajme Tula, descendant of Lebanese.

It should be noted that there are descendants of the aforementioned migrants, as well as Jamaicans and Japanese, among others, in the Popular Patria Council.

When assessing the results of these meetings, they agreed on their usefulness to deepen the knowledge of who we are and who and how much they have contributed to the culture of the town with their traditions and customs.

Mother's Day celebration

As part of the community work in the Homeland, the celebration of Mother's Day in the neighborhood known as the UNO is recognized by the students of the Chair for the Elderly at the Miriam Hernández Díaz home.

The students of the local Elderly Continuity Course, retired residents in the neighborhood, the cultural promoter of the council itself (Yindra Mayet Rosales), Physical Education teachers who work with the elderly in their preparation participated in this activity. physics (Yurisán Beirut Cantillo and Leidis Martínez Gutiérrez) and the professors from CUAM.

In the development of these activities, anecdotes related to Mother's Day were narrated, about what life was like when they were children and the lives of their parents, how they were cared for and educated in an honest and humble way. When evaluating these activities, the fulfillment of the objectives set was highlighted, paying tribute to that being as special as the mothers of the community and Cuba.

Since November 2017, as has been reiterated, community activities began to be developed monthly with outputs to the objectives of the 2030 Agenda, mainly related to the environment, some of which are listed below:

Lectures at the Popular Patria Council on the topic: The environmental dimension .

On this day, Lic. Hibo Brito González, professor at the University Chair for the Elderly, appeared at the National Sugar Museum to give a conference on the Environment.

The main topics addressed in the conference were:

Participants in the conference were the students of the local Elderly Continuity Course, teachers and students of the ESBU José Maceo, retired teachers residing in the Popular Council, librarians of the Camilo Cienfuegos Primary School, workers of the National Sugar Museum, guests from the TECNOAZÚCAR National Company and the CUAM professor Osmel De Ávila Brito.

Comrade Hibo Brito shared for two hours with the Senior Adult students and the attending guests, where he expressed with great clarity the importance of knowing the Environment and the care that human beings should have in this regard, both on planet Earth and in the community where we settle.

He referred to how the anthropic action of the human being is destroying his own home, and how, since 1992, the Commander in Chief Fidel alluded with great vision to this situation the planet is going through.

He pointed out how in the Cuban Constitution, article 27 talks about this whole situation that we are going through on Earth.

He specified how all the evil that we do or allow if it is transferred to the economy is much damage that does us, since this is the basis of it.

During the course of the conference, the colleagues in the audience asked the teacher questions about the interest that all of the above aroused in them with great clarity.

This topic will continue to be developed in this Popular Council and those present expressed how interesting it was and that for the next conference they made the commitment to bring colleagues to participate with them.

The topics addressed in conference two were:

Participating in the conference were the students of the Local Elderly Continuity Course, teachers and students of the ESBU José Maceo, retired teachers residing in the Popular Council, librarians of the Camilo Cienfuegos Primary School, the director and workers of the Sugar Museum of Patria, students from the University of Ciego de Ávila, guests of the local ANEC and the CUAM professor Osmel De Ávila Brito.

Comrade Hibo Brito gave this topic for two hours to the Senior Adult students and the attending guests, where he referred to aspects of great interest to the audience.

He pointed out in depth the main evils that are currently faced in the environment, not only in Cuba, but throughout the planet Earth.

These evils are:

In this regard, he stated that 60% of the soils in Cuba have lost fertility and of course this situation is evident in our territory.

He reiterated words used in previous meetings where the anthropic action of human beings is destroying his own home, and he reiterated how in 1992 Commander in Chief Fidel alluded with great vision to this situation the planet is going through.

He pointed out how the Cuban Constitution in Article 27 talks about this whole situation that we are going through on Earth and why we must study it and enforce where it is expressed what man must do to protect our Common Home.

CONCLUSIONS

The Chair of the Elderly in the community of Homeland has promoted the insertion of the elderly as part of the extension and universal work of Higher Education.

The community activities carried out by the University Chair for the Elderly in the Patria popular council focused on environmental issues and compliance with the 2030 Agenda have stimulated great interest and concern in the students of the community, who together with the CUAM students hope each activity to continue knowing how to contribute correctly to protect the environment and achieve sustainable development.
