The 4r's of environmental management and its crisis in Latin America

Anonim

Social responsibility is taking over public opinion, it is undeniable that there is a growing wave of Latin Americans who, beyond their social and economic reality, visualize and appropriate the natural wealth that the region boasts and that seduce the great devourers international companies of natural resources that, not only have been devastating the planet under the slogan of wealth and sustainability - greenwashing effect or misleading advertising, but also seek to appropriate through “legal” means large natural areas, royalties and people (cheap labor), taking advantage of the permanent troubled river of governments and rulers in environmental matters.

Undoubtedly, the lack of a solid and transcendent environmental portfolio - in the different public portfolios - does not speak well of the management of governments in the matter, especially in the face of the challenge of mining, which can be the catapult to first world or excessive exploitation with immeasurable and dire losses. Which leads us to think about the misapplication of the "4Rs" of environmental responsibility in our Latin American countries: either due to ignorance or lack of interest, by officials, institutions and companies. Excluding, yes, those who recognize and respect our region as a biodiverse power and implement them correctly.

It is worth reminding permissive governments and polluting companies of the importance of:

Rethink:

Evaluate, analyze and identify deficiencies, strengths, losses and achievements in order to achieve and advance in established objectives, or rethink them towards efficiency. In this way, a fulfillment of goals can be required by promoting and strengthening an administrative-operational structure. The solution is not in scribbles and new accounts, less with our experience and, of course, in issues that represent the interests of resource-rich countries that underpin their future "prosperity" (the real one).

Reduce:

Applied to the consumption of resources and the optimization of their use, the growing demand for advisers and means for handling responsibilities that must be in the hands of experts in technical and scientific issues applied to the environment is contradictory; as well as jurists who are in charge of proposing and enforcing the law, not of structuring the trap to “shield” the interests of so many that are distributed in concessions and perks to the national natural treasures.

Re-use:

The discords inherited from one government to another do not seem to allow the ratification of officials and experts of recognized and correct management in environmental work, all due to the differences between party flags. Reuse is not only valid for materials in production, traceability applies in all levels and more in matters in which expertise is essential, not to mention the vocation, respect and deep appreciation for nature that empowered individuals must have..

Recycle:

Although the process refers to the recovery of “waste” material, it applies to our reality when we speak of rescuing and promoting conjunctural normative processes that, under the protection of our own interests or that of a few, rot in the archives or in oblivion due to lack of suitable proponents, guarantors of solid legislation that promotes the conservation and appropriate use of natural resources, as well as the permanent and massive declaration of conservation areas, among other responsibilities. Hence, recycling requires a minimum of "order" and selection, so that its implementation is efficient.

In short: tell me who advises you and I will tell you who governs. As civil society, it is our responsibility to protect the natural heritage that has been entrusted to us, governments and rulers will come and go; on the other hand, when natural resources leave, they do not return.
