Emotions and self-control

Anonim

The mature human being does what needs to be done regardless of whether he feels like doing it, feels good, or feels terrible. Many times the way we feel affects our performance in life or at work. When we depend on how we feel, we cannot plan our day well and instead of keeping our direction firmly, our goals are at the mercy of circumstances and how they affect us.

Emotions will always be present

All the time we are feeling something, we are emotional beings; There will be days when we experience sadness, depression, discouragement, and there will be days when we wake up with enthusiasm, interest, and confidence. Emotions cannot be changed directly and consciously by our will, but we can influence to change them indirectly through our behaviors. In other words, you cannot decree: 'I want to stop feeling sad' because it is not going to happen; But if you can "do" something different from what you were doing to stop feeling sad. The important thing is to recognize what we are feeling, accept it and allow ourselves to feel it. Emotions are neither good nor bad, they exist and are there; They cannot be repressed or controlled, but we can influence and modify them.

Your actions change your emotions

You have the power to influence your emotions through your actions and behaviors: if you feel "overwhelmed" do something that makes you feel "serenity", take a walk, change the music, sit down for a while. If you feel "discouraged", write a list or make a portfolio of photos with the greatest achievements of your personal history so that you feel "pride" and strengthen the confidence you require to face your challenges. In conclusion, when what you feel begins to isolate and shrink you: acknowledge it, do something to feel different and reconnect with your life and your goals.

The goal is Self-Control

Achieving self-control means that we have developed the necessary Self-control to be fully responsible for our life and our results. Being in charge of our actions and our emotions will give us the satisfaction and confidence we need to face whatever comes our way along the way. And even in the days where we do not find the confidence or the necessary motivation; our will will have been strengthened enough to fulfill the commitments we make to ourselves and thus be able to transform our lives, our careers and our relationships.

So, get back to your goals today to exercise, start graduate school, read more, learn something new, rescue your social life, or spend more time with your family. Do what is necessary to fulfill what you set out to do, even on the days when you don't feel like doing it; because through the small actions you carry out with consistency you will be strengthening your Self-control, your character and you will become the owner and lord of your destiny.
