Staff pick. attitude, aptitude and emotional intelligence in applicants

Anonim

"If you cannot work with love, but only with disgust, it is better that you leave your task and sit at the door of the temple and receive alms from those who work joyfully" Kahlil Gibran.

The Royal Academy of the Spanish Language defines Attitude: "Disposition of mind manifested in some way" and Aptitude: "Ability to competently operate in a certain activity".

Starting from this, we can also say that the attitude is influenced by motivations, past experiences, will, intelligence, emotions, the congenital, the environment; Most of our attitudes are the product of our home and / or family environment, while Aptitude is a general and individual trait that facilitates learning and / or development of specific tasks and distinguishes them from others.

At present in many companies we see that the selection of personnel is based almost 80 percent on the aptitudes of the applicants, aptitudes that they sustain with academic degrees, certificates of specialization courses and others, leaving aside or taking minimal account of the attitudes of said applicants, as a consequence of this type of personnel selection we can find workers who only fulfill their work half, they are moderately interested in the quantitative part of their work, leaving aside the qualitative part, negatively influencing in workers who are really interested in carrying out their work quantitatively and qualitatively, not only with their attitude, but they are still heard “advising”: «Why do you worry so much? Do you think they are going to build you a monument? ».People who do not know the satisfaction of a job fully completed.

There are other types of negative attitudes that also damage the synergy that should exist in every work team and cause disunity and comments such as the following: 'He has lost interest', 'he goes to his own, period', 'it is good, but his pride prevents him from being aware that he still has to continue learning ',' he is always the fastest, but lately he looks at others over his shoulder ', "he is not really interested in his job", "he does his job halfway and nobody cares say nothing". Attitudes due to the fact of coming many times from our childhood are very difficult to change; But skills and or competencies can be learned more easily than changing an attitude.

Workers are needed with a positive attitude, with adequate emotional intelligence "… academic intelligence is inert and analytical, it rarely provokes creative initiatives or leads to achievements." (one)

That is why companies must influence the attitudes of applicants more. Workers with negative attitudes are reactive workers, which is the opposite of proactive workers, which are what companies need for their growth and / or positioning in the market. Workers with positive attitudes do not give up on problems, it is as if they have the Portuguese proverb in mind: "if there is no wind, row" and they have moral values such as honesty and truth very much in mind. Honesty to give their best effort in the efficient and / or effective performance of their obligations in the company; in contrast to workers who only give their company or the company in which they work a minimum effort, even having the necessary capacity for better job performance; and truth not to be inventing excuses to justify negative attitudes and to assume responsibility as it corresponds to an honest person.

"I can only consider mine what I achieved with my work"

By this I mean not only material goods, but also the rise in the hierarchical scale within the institution in which we work, our commitment to the institution, reflected with efficient and / or effective work performance, will eventually be rewarded., with a higher level position, this reminds us of Newton's third law " for every action, there is an opposite reaction in equal force and magnitude " both in our life and in the company we reap what we sow. Good attitudes will make us feel involved and committed to the mission and vision of the company in which we work and good to ourselves. Let's not forget that: “The only place where success is before work; it's in the dictionary ”.
