How to recover the illusion for what you do

Have you lost the illusion you had for what you do? Do you feel somewhat discouraged, unmotivated and not knowing how to recover the energy and enthusiasm that you used to have in your work or business?

You may have lost the illusion because nobody supports you and as much as you love your project you feel alone. Maybe what happens to you is that you have tried hard, you have sacrificed things, you have been 100% involved but you do not see results and you no longer know what to do. Or that, even if everything goes well, you are missing something. There are actually many reasons why you may have lost hope for what you do, be it in your career or in your business. So what can you do about it?

1. Demystify the illusion.

I named this in last week's article. As much as you like what you do, there are things that you will not like so much and, in addition, you can not be excited every day, 24 hours a day. You will have bad moments, you will be unmotivated some days and there will be things that you would rather not do. This is life, the question is to keep going even in those moments, not abandon the first change. He who follows it achieves it, that is a very important part of success. So stop thinking that if you have no illusion it is that something is wrong, it does not have to be this way.

2. Analyze the causes.

When disillusionment really worries you and you know it's deeper, it's time to look at the causes. In reality what matters is not so much the cause, but the solution. In this case, if you determine what has changed, that you had before that you do not have now, you will be able to find the solution faster (and recover what you had before). So think, what has changed? What did you have before, when you had hope, that you don't have now? Maybe it is that you are stressed and need a vacation, or that you have entered a routine phase and could use new challenges, or that what you do no longer makes you happy and it is time for a change (although it scares you). What are you missing? Find it and find the solution.

Some more concrete things you can do, depending on your situation:

  • Take a break, disconnecting from everything (no social media or taking your laptop, that's not disconnecting). Seek support in groups of women with the same mindset, friends, etc. Learn something new that is not related to what you do (This can have a much greater positive influence than you think). Get 100% involved again, endeavor to do things well again, taking care of the details, because that generates a lot of motivation, enthusiasm and satisfaction for a job well done. A trick I read recently on the Lifehacker blog, imagine that they give you a raise (or that you give yourself if you are self-employed) and you charge 300 euros an hour. Imagine it, really. How you feel? Take advantage of that feeling and illusion to anticipate things or dare to do something else. Don't underestimate the “rush” that kind of emotion gives you. It's like when you get off a fairground attraction or when you've just done something exciting, you come out excited and full of energy and that makes you more daring, so take advantage of it.

Remember it is normal to lose the illusion sometimes, the important thing is to persevere and put a solution if you see that it affects you too much. No one said this was easy.
