Acquiring knowledge and not applying it is like listening and not paying attention. Sometimes we read information, a news item or a technological contribution and we do not understand it, but over time when they materialize and we can experience their facilities, we finally understand what we read.

Life is very similar and the world of work is very similar.

Many of us study conflict management techniques and even so they escape our hands, perhaps because we only consider our point of view, I am going to tell you two episodes, one work and one family, to illustrate how points of view affect or solve a problem. problem.

In a small transport company, it was detected that one of the drivers who was driving one of the company's units, made trips without reporting it, this implied that the unit suffered greater mechanical wear than the company imagined, produced more money and the organization I did not perceive it. This company of course quite small was managed by a General Manager, a Logistics Manager and its owner, in perfect Spanish by three friends.

The owner placed all his trust in the managers, however the general manager asked him at one point to be a participant in the eventualities and decisions of the company, this happened in parallel with the driver's debauchery. The very radical general manager, when he found out about the scam that the driver was committing, agreed with the logistics manager to change roles and began a day-to-day monitoring of the driver. They collected data and presented it to the owner, who decided to meet with his friends and the driver to discuss the situation.

Effectively!!! They discussed the situation, a scenario was presented to the driver in which he was left speechless, the owner of the company left open a new opportunity for the driver to vindicate himself, sensitized to the fact that the man had a family to support. In total disagreement the managers accepted the proposal: ultimately the owner is the owner.

Months passed and the owner of the company almost lost his two friends due to the opportunity he gave the driver, the individual did not improve or change his attitude, he was a dishonest person by nature, he charged for repairs not carried out, for spare parts not bought Due to maintenance work never carried out, this driver put the unit at risk for damage caused by intent and put the friendship of these three people to the test.

You may wonder, what are the two points of view? It is very simple, the owner in knowledge that his general manager was totally radical was predisposed to his opinions, the general manager under his radical opinion, did not allow any negotiation of his decisions. When they managed to sit down to listen to each other with a lot of tension and even resentment, they agreed to break their employment relationships due to irreconcilable differences, such as a divorce. Over time… they regained their friendship and are currently trying to heal the employment relationship.

The moral: you have to know how to listen, this is applicable for both characters (the owner and the general manager). If the owner had not taken the position of: this is my decision and it is done so, it is likely that his managers would have made an attempt to make him understand that the smartest way out was to fire the driver and, if the managers had not been saturated with the day by day and from the countless lies of the driver, they might have seen a more productive, more elegant and more effective exit.

The key to this example is: listen to the other point of view.

The family anecdote is simple, a couple bought a family property that over time generated a lot of internal family tension (with their children) and external (with brothers, nephews and brothers-in-law). This property belonged to a relative who sadly passed away. The property was a family inheritance, which when changing hands brought many quarrels and disagreements, when selling it, it stopped being a family inheritance and became someone's private property.

The family environment never understood this change, generating judgments that achieved a detachment from the family nucleus that acquired the property. Over time, the children of this family nucleus thought that the solution to all this disagreement was to sell that property and so their parents did, they sold it !!!!

It turns out that the children of his deceased relative (the former owner) saw the sale of the property offensive and new and renewed grudges were born, from them towards the family that had just sold the property.

The story is very long, but the moral is very simple: the couple and their children are not guilty of the sale of a family inheritance, they sold their property, that is a point of view! the other point of view is that no one until today has realized that the person who sold a family legacy was the one who went to a more spiritual plane, that is, the previous owner.

If only we could see the other point of view, we could open our minds and our feelings to something so simple and earthly.

Two points of view, the first the couple and their children felt great relief to sell what they considered the problem, the second point of view for the children of the former owner a problem was born because they sold their father's legacy.

Feeling passion for what we do is the fuel for success, but when we feel passion for conflict is the way to failure, you have to stop listening and try to explore the other point of view.
