Managing our personal fears

Anonim

This article makes us reflect on fears, one of the most relevant challenges for the development of the Human Being.

I was wondering - not long ago - by doing a little more research on the behaviors of ordinary human beings, why horror movies are so successful.

I don't know what they think of this in particular; however, I defend my personal position that many of us watch these films to "test ourselves" against fear, to see if we are capable of overcoming it or not. A game that we are proud to overcome, with popcorn or popcorn and in the “company” of someone.

The question happens after leaving the cinema and we begin to see that life has us as "main protagonists" and that there are no pre-established scripts, or director to guide us. The movie is rolling in our minds, all the time, without stopping for a second, even when we sleep.

I read sometime about a chimpanzee having a brain similar to that of a human being 95%, and that the remaining 5% that makes us different, is not exactly the ability to reason. Chimpanzees also experience feelings of fear; only that we can be "aware" of what we feel and have the willpower to move forward, on pain of our emotions.

And I wonder… how many times have we been looking like the chimpanzee, not taking care of the 5% that differentiates us from him?

With fear (which I call "booo"), one can have two choices to star in that "mental movie" that we each have. One choice is that fears are the monsters that destroy us by recognizing us as weak; And the second choice is to turn that fear into our own empowering energy.

If fears are those monsters or ghosts in our mind, we become paralyzed. We stop moving forward to stop, not act. The will is broken. We start saying "we can't" or we make a thousand excuses for not having the initiative to continue. I would say that we enter a circle where it is feared, it stops, it fears more, it stops more… and we never overcome this obstacle of life.

But… How do we get out of this inaction, of this detention? Just accepting them. Recognize that we fear. That we feel weak in the face of fears. And right there, at that moment, is where we start the way out, where we leave the state of paralysis. That is, we begin to be aware and pay more attention to our emotional records. Otherwise, if we do not pay attention to these emotional records, our fears will invade us when we least think about it.

At school, in biology, there were a couple of experiments with the frog. One of them consisted of taking a live frog and throwing it into a container of boiling water. Before throwing it away, the teacher asked us "what do you think will happen to the frog?" Most of the group of students thought she would be burned to death. However, the frog had a 95% chance of being saved, given the instinct to be able to act quickly when faced with sudden changes in temperature.

Now, what would happen to the frog if we put it in the same container with cold water and then light the fire so that the water gradually warms up? Well, we already know the answer…

This is what happens to all of us when we are not "aware" of our emotions. The fear grows without us noticing it, as if it were the water that is heating up; until we boil !!!.

Then, the knowledge that the fears are there is the inexorable step to overcome them.

Certainly fear is an "alarm" that asks us to "protect ourselves" from circumstances, from something or someone.

In the instinctive nature of the human being - like the frog - we can recognize fear from emotion, through the physiological changes that we receive from our nervous system. That is, being biological beings, our emotions are manifested in the body. However, we sabotage ourselves so much mentally, until many times we change the nature or the innate essence and we begin to feel emotions of fear, without this being a real alarm by which we must protect ourselves.

Fear is a necessary thing. The difficulty arises when we do not exercise control over our mind. If not, we would not have run when a raging dog ever chased us to bite us. It is coherent to learn to differentiate real fears from those that threaten our natural human essence.

If we spend it taking a meter to measure ourselves against those phantom fears, I assure you that we will always feel small, insignificant. We will see the fear (Booo) immensely great, that will hurt our neck from looking up so high and giant that we would see it.

Imagine small fears, to the point of devaluing them. Let's make fun of them. Let's put him a red and apple green polka dot bun, a clown nose, and smash a meringue cake on his face. Let's ridicule them !!!

Joy, humor and the repetitiveness of positive thoughts and affirmations are the antidotes to the spell of black and poisonous fears that contaminate the harmony of our Being. A spirit that comes and goes, leads us more to suffering, melancholy, reluctance, sadness, discouragement and so many states that we do not want to have. Enough of being on a pendulum of emotions !!!

Let's laugh at ourselves. From the mistakes we make, from our past, from our present, from our fears. It is very healthy and enjoyable. I also consider it to be an attitude of courage.

In fact, the memory is what activates many fears or fears when experiencing in the present a situation similar or similar to the one we lived in the past. We remember what happened to us and we feel like a cataract in our stomach, our hands sweat, we tremble… so many things… And what is also true is that what we fear is an energy that materializes exactly what we feared.

Laughing then at fears, at the very past, is something that keeps us with positive thinking and empowering energy. That energy, which is definitely the best-thought-out choice, allows us to “polarize” or “reverse” the energy of fear into a powerful drive toward self-improvement and more, until we materialize our most vehement desires.

Let's not underestimate our energy. Fear is not powerful enough to influence our behavior. If we face it, it will only be difficult the first time and that is natural to happen to us, since at the beginning, we do not know how to advance on it. Although… when one makes the determination to face it, one begins to have knowledge, and knowledge is power.

Let's make a list of our talents, special gifts and qualities. Let's start building a fortress with all these unique and unrepeatable gifts that we have. Every day, a brick. The sum of those present, of those today, will make that fortress something indestructible. Then we will be ready to achieve the most utopian and impossible goals.

In the face of fear, let us remember the moments of success. Let us express our fears and decree aloud that we overcome them. Let's laugh at our mistakes and try to do it a thousand times more until we make it, let's not stop. Let's bring joy to our lives, let's express art and emotions. Let us not judge what we believe is going to happen in a given situation, we do not have the crystal ball, nor are we witches to know what will happen. Let's be responsible and committed. Let's not run away all the time.

Let's set goals, objectives and be persistent. And if we fall, let's get up and carry on A stumble is not a fall and a fall is not death; it is life itself that wants to strengthen us to be free.
