Summary

Motivation is essential in people to achieve an impact on them, a change of attitude that helps them achieve the objectives and goals set in a personal or group way and that will benefit the organizations where they carry out their activities, after all the benefits are for both in which the application of this technique, tool or strategy, well directed will yield fruits that they will share. In other words, a "win-win" benefit will be established.

Introduction

I will approach the subject of motivation from the perspective of the film "In Pursuit of Happiness" by the author, Chris Gardner, directed by Gabriele Muccino, starring Will Smith and Jaden Smith. Due to the teaching that this film shows us, of the infinity of events that arise and that the protagonist (Chris Gardner) has to face in order to solve and be able to achieve the satisfaction of his needs that will become his motivation, in order to achieve what is proposed as a goal.

“Never let someone tell you that you can't do something, not even me, if you have a dream you should protect it, if someone can't do something, they will tell you that you can't either, if you want something, go after it. Point".

The motivation

… - Uuuh, what a beauty, I have 2 questions for you, what are you doing? and how do you do it?- …

Motivation is defined by the author as:

"The state of an individual's perspective that represents the strength of his propensity to make an effort toward a particular behavior." Gibson

From my point of view there are two important elements in motivation, the first force, drive, that is, the individual will experience a change in behavior and the second the attitude to achieve the goal, that is, the behavior that you will assume in the circumstances that They are presented to solve the difficulties, barriers, obstacles and you can reach the satisfaction or incentive that you will receive for the effort made, in addition the need plays a fundamental role in the pursuit of the achievement of the objectives.

The need

  • Chris. I'll try to get there around 6, I'll stop by to see some stockbrokers. Wife. What for? Chris. I'll look for work there, wife. Yes, what work? Chris. Stockbroker. Wife. Stockbroker? Won't you be an astronaut?

Continuing the plot of the film.

"The Theory of necessity. It focuses on the importance of analyzing and understanding the psychological factors in individuals that cause them to behave in a certain way. Behavior is the result of attempts to satisfy those needs and specific acts are based on the particular need that drives the individual at any given time. "

This part of the film is related to the vision of Douglas McGregor, in which he establishes two theories ("X", "Y") in which there are two types of people, people "x" and people "Y".

People "X", for the majority of workers, work is unpleasant and therefore they try to avoid it, they are irresponsible, lazy, avoid work, negative.

The "Y" theory people are people for whom work is pleasant, it is natural.

In this theory people strive, seek and accept responsibilities and challenges, they are competent.

In my opinion the people of the theory "and" generally tend to stand out in the activities they carry out, either individually or in groups, due to the drive, attitude, they seek in any way to achieve personal and organizational objectives, as they have the ability to do so.

The motivation then occurs for the first time when detecting a need and then becoming an impulse to achieve its goal which will keep the person motivated. On the other hand, psychological factors will help us to obtain objectives and results in the best way, to name one, attitude, behavior, this will make the individual react in the best way.

Types of motivation

There are various types of motivation, which we will mention below: Intrinsic and extrinsic, content and context, Immediate and long-term, positive and negative, deficiency and growth, material and spiritual, conscious and unconscious, individual and collective. Whatever type of motivation is used, it will be focused in order to create a change in the individual's behavior, which helps him achieve what he needs, requires and to feel satisfied.

Motivation process

It is presented in the following order:

  1. Need Impulse Actions Satisfaction
  • Charly. Hey I need to rent Chris. Hi Charly. I can't wait anymore Chris. Yes, yes, I know charly, I'll pay you the rent…

Continuing with the development of the film "In search of happiness" the first point of the motivation process is given, there is a need and I will relate it to the theory of Abraham Maslow, a notable humanist psychologist who explains the relationships of motivations and levels and types of human needs, which are mentioned below,

  1. Biological Safety Affiliation Recognition Self Realization

From my point of view, this part is related to the biological and security needs since they are the first that the human being must satisfy to survive, that is, eat, drink, sleep. These would be located within the biological and security, obtaining a home and having a secure job, to meet their needs.

Chris Gardner demonstrates, during the meeting with the partners of the brokerage firm called Dean Witters Reynolds, to be a person with attitude, honest and capable, which allows him to cause an impact and admiration among the partners.

And making a relationship with the subject, Maslow establishes a fourth stage of the classification of the needs represented by the pyramid, in which the need for recognition becomes necessary, it becomes a need to feel motivated, towards the achievement of the objectives planned in advance.

At this point, I consider that it is essential that the individual be recognized for the work he does, the achievements. Human beings require recognition from leaders and their peers, including external recognition, that is, recognition from society, to increase the ego and feel useful and motivated, this will always be a factor that also modifies the behavior of the individual within an organization.

"This part of my life I call training"

In this part in which Maslow shows us in his theory of the hierarchy of needs, at the top he classifies it as the part of self-realization, that is, the obtaining of achievements and recognition by the person.

I can define training as the acquisition of knowledge over time to be able to carry out specific activities or functions within an organization, which allows it to give better results. It is what gives us being truly prepared will provide us with results for example. A career, a diploma.

Today training is essential to improve individually and for the development of organizations, this part of the training, I relate it as a fundamental factor for the growth and development that motivates the employee, it certainly becomes a necessity and then in a motivating agent, example: if I am trained or able to perform some function, activity, I will have better results and therefore better remuneration.

“Chris, it was clear to me that being part of the select group of 20 people to be trained and compete for the position of stockbroker, only one would be hired by the company. He was clear that he would have to put all his effort to achieve it "

Victor H. Vroom, establishes that the level of individual productivity seems to depend on three basic forces that act within the individual:

  1. Individual goals The perceived relationship between productivity and achievement of goals Ability to influence his own level of productivity, to the extent that he believes he can influence it.

In relation to what Víctor H. Vroom establishes, I consider that these three aspects or factors are the main motivating agents to achieve expectations, rewards, and increase the level of productivity according to the objective or planned goal, that is, how much more or greater reward exists, the motivation will be focused on greater production to obtain its objectives.

"This part of my life, this little moment of my life I call happiness."

This can be related to Maslow's pyramid theory of satisfaction of needs, “which is based on a hierarchy of human needs. Due to the fact that not all needs can be expressed simultaneously, they tend to be grouped in a structure in which there are priorities. "

These indicate that the needs are given by cascade, that is, the basic ones are the first to seek their satisfaction, as each level is satisfied, the next is considered or should be more important and consequently, until reaching the last level called of Self-actualization, in which all needs are satisfied, within this representation of Maslow (hierarchy of needs).

Paul Hersey and Kenneth Blanchard in their book "Management and Human Behavior," "states that for every $ 30 invested in research in the United States, 29 are invested in things and only 1 in people.

In the Latin American countries, with their problems of marginalization, corruption, development and atavistic disorganization, the need for humanistic attitudes is even more pressing.

Mexico, for example, has immense climatic, mineral, forest and marine resources, etc.; And yet it is counted among the underdeveloped countries, it is a living paradox; and the key is that we are previously under-organized, under-managed and under-educated. Our big problems are human failures.

Fortunately, in recent years, Mexican society has reacted and is concerned with developing human capital in a rational way at all levels. Humanistic training programs emerge with a view that each person takes responsibility for their destiny ”.

In my opinion, in Mexico there is no such culture, they continue to think that training is expensive and that the worker will leave as soon as he has the opportunity, however training is not just sending them to the course and paying for it, we can buy a book and make reading circles and comment on issues that can contribute to work and not necessarily spend on courses, in addition an organization is a means of constant learning that allows us to grow and develop the knowledge that is required within it.

conclusion

All of us, during the course of our life, have experienced the need and with it the motivation, We go through changes in behavior that generate an impulse caused by that lack, which we incessantly seek to satisfy through the goal or the previously established objective and with it obtain a little happiness, while we wait for the next reason for the change in attitude, because this is what should not be lost to obtain what we want, that is why motivation becomes something so fundamental in organizations, as well as in the daily life of individuals.

In this work, we were able to realize the importance of this tool to improve productivity in organizations, it is the detection of needs and the importance of identifying the stage in which each individual is, to find a change in attitude, to through stimuli that can serve to obtain those objectives that help and motivate the worker to be more productive in a personal way for the benefit of the company, so that a relationship is generated for the benefit of both.
