New risks in the occupational health of teachers

Anonim

Faced with the permanent social and cultural changes that occur in each society, new risks are beginning to affect the occupational health of teachers. Disquieting challenges add to the wide range of his comprehensive role. Busy in maintaining the level of their knowledge, the renewal of their strategies, the enrichment of their aptitudes, they must now have an emotional strength that allows them to experience and control situations of overflow, claims, conflicts, threats and even of assaults.

Affection, authority, trust, and even healthy coexistence must be cultivated and cared for daily. For a long time, the figure of the teacher had its own shine and the students, the family and the entire community felt a deep respect for him, the image of the teacher was illustrated as the hand that offered us the best way in our journey through studies. Now it seems that we are all permanent judges, empowered to judge and condemn, to criticize, question and comment.

Relating with students, sustaining their attention, motivating them and gaining the trust of them and their environment, are permanent reasons for concern that lead the teacher to rethink in the face of new needs that are increasing and are unresolved from training and from the organization of institutions.

The typical conditions found by knowledgeable doctors of the licenses most requested by teachers are: varicose veins in the legs, dysphonia, hypertension, stress, musculoskeletal disorders and gastritis. In recent times, social circumstances have emerged that have modified habits, values, attitudes and forms of communication and expression, in this way teachers face day by day the typical components of a population immersed in serious social problems and coexist with the loneliness of children that they do not see with their parents. With the deficiencies that afflict many with economic problems and with the increasingly frequent violence in many areas (homes, streets, television, school, among others).

Consequently, performance, mood, humor and even the quality of their work are threatened, often culminating in health disorders for those who are not trained to cope with these challenges, do not have the support and recognition necessary to sustain their decisions, they do not monitor their health continuously and they do not have real and effective communication channels.

Only if the health of the teaching professional is guaranteed, it is possible to speak of performance, quality and above all to feel the pleasure of being a teacher again.

Changes continue and strategies must be agreed upon in each institution without losing sight of some objectives: taking care of working conditions, upholding common criteria throughout the school community, creating a better climate and opportunities for permanent communicative interaction, organizing continuous training sessions. that involve all staff, work towards the elevation of the teacher's social recognition and value and motivate all the work that tends to the permanent effort of the protagonists in the educational task scenario.
