Pillars of neurolinguistic programming

Anonim

Introduction

"What we do in life is determined by the way we communicate with ourselves." Bandler (Co-creator of NLP)

In order to understand about the meaning of neurolinguistic programming, the three main concepts must be taken into account, such as programming, neuro and linguistics.

pillars-programming-neurolinguistics

In the first concept, programming is understood as a process that our mental system performs, in other words the way we can choose to organize our ideas, thoughts and actions in order to produce some result, secondly the word neuro is understood by the behavior that we carry out comes from some neurological process or neural patterns of the experiences or acts that our life represents daily, for example the use of the senses such as smell, touch, taste, vision, smell and feelings.

Neurology not only fulfills the thoughts that are generated in the brain, it goes further, also the physiological reactions that can be visible in the face of ideas and events, that is why the body and the brain are always interconnected with each other. And the third part corresponds to the linguistics that deals with the type of language with which we can express ourselves in order to free our thoughts and some behaviors, in order to communicate with the environment, or else, it is said that NLP gives great importance to semantic field that a person can use when trying to communicate with other people through different channels such as:

Visual: In this group of people, normally those who can process information through images and graphics are located where the words, see, show and clarify serve to determine this group.

Auditory: In this group of people those who have a more developed sense of hearing stand out and manage to capture at the same time of processing, audios, sounds and words, they use better the word sounds to me, I listen to you and I tune you in.

Kinesthetic: These people better perceive emotions and sensations without linguistic filters, words like heavy and intense are used.

That is why through this article, some concepts about Neurolinguistic Programming will be known and although it is not a very new term, for most of the people who are asked they cannot give a concept about what it means, for they the term is completely new and they have no idea where it can be used and what its functions are.

That is why, the way in which many people and organizations are carrying out NLP practices in their day to day and as a way of life, companies are using it to resolve conflicts and improve decision-making, will be made known. but people should have it as part of their daily routine.

What is Neurolinguistic Programming?

When trying to talk about this topic, it is believed that someone has the power to reprogram our thoughts to be able to do things in a different way, but what it is mainly about is a form or a hologram, where all the parts can be related each.

NLP is a systemic model (O'Connor & Seymour, 1995) or the study of the structure of subjective experience while others can name it as the art of science and communication (Ready & Burton, 2008). It is also said that it is a set of techniques that can be designed to produce changes in people, either in the short or long term.

For which, it is translated, that NLP is a way or form that allows us to understand how people can react, because we behave as we normally do, and because our way of being, or the way in which we act and that we express ourselves, how we make ourselves understood and how we give meaning to our life by facing all the events that may occur around us, whether at work, school, with friends, with family, etc.

NLP is created from the studies carried out by Jhon Grinder, a linguist and Richard Blander, a mathematician, in the 70's where they carried out some techniques of the therapists Virginia Satir, Fritz Perls and Milton Erickson that they had previously proposed.

The goal of NLP

"Insanity is always doing the same thing… and expecting different results" (Albert Einstein)

Thus, as the genius of physics can express it in this phrase, if each one is aware of what he wants to do by taking different alternatives and not the same ones, he will be able to have new life experiences, since, he will reach the desired goal or well to achieve the proposed objectives.

NLP helps that these paths or decisions that we make lead us to visualize the goal and that it can be achieved, since sensory acuity can be trained, make changes in the filters so that we realize some of the things that before we overlooked ourselves, or, NLP helps us know where we can focus our attention in order to achieve better results.

In order to reach your goal according to NLP, four steps can be implemented that will help you achieve what you want, listed below:

  1. Determine the intended result.

Here you have to specify in the most precise way you want and what result I expect.

  1. Perform the action.

If you only leave things in the first step, they can never be done for the simple fact of having written or thought about them, it is necessary, that you go to the next step and start doing what you have in mind.

  1. Take into account sensory awareness

This tries to put the senses into practice so that through them, we can have a better way of seeing if things are going as we think and if they are not, then modify the behavior and so on until what we want is achieved.

  1. Be flexible in behavior

The person who manages to be more flexible is the one who will be able to better control the situations that arise throughout the process to obtain the result, that is why we must always establish flexibility in our life because not everyone will think the same as me, thank you to their mental schemes that each one has founded and faithfully believes in.

The four pillars of NLP

The four pillars on which Neurolinguistic Programming is supported are detailed below:

  1. Compenetration or rapport. This first pillar is where it is intended that before building interpersonal relationships with other people, we must look inside each one of us to be well with others and be able to build relationships with them as well. Sensory awareness. Our surroundings will look different and can be enjoyed more through the senses. Think about results. This is where you stop to think about what you want to do and that this is achieved.

In the business area it is one of the main pillars, since it is the way in which decisions will be made to achieve the goals of the organization, which is why the objectives to be achieved must be defined and thereby achieved. The successes.

  1. Flexible behavior or conduct. It refers to the behavior that one has in some moments compared to others, the flexibility to change the way of thinking or acting in the moment, either to change, or to do something different from what has already been done.

An example of this is the way that some people take in a certain way the way of behaving in front of something that they dislike, in the restaurant their soup is served cold, this causes confusion in the person, and she will decide the reaction that should be take towards yourself either by triggering negative emotions like anger and rage; and with others you can scream and make a fuss, or take it easy and tell the waiter to change his soup, these two reactions can be interpreted in the way that each individual behaves differently when faced with an uncomfortable situation, and with this you will have used the four pillars that were previously explained.

characteristics

According to McWhirter (Meza Cepeda, Almarza de Acosta, & Arrieta de Meza, 2006) he says that some of the characteristics of NLP can be analyzed from certain perspectives such as art, science and practice.

Art. Since people are born they are in constant learning, each one and their free will will be able to direct themselves through life and assume their actions, decisions and others, it is understood that it is the personal seal that each individual possesses and with it manifests itself to do something right.

Science. It is considered this way, because it follows a technique, a method and a process known as modeling, which works to discover some of the models that were previously used by other people and that generated success, not only professionally but also work and family.

Practice. It is made up of a set of models, skills and has techniques that manage to act, think, experiment and assume between its interior and exterior.

Tools

NLP arises from the question of knowing how we can communicate and interact with ourselves and with others, if someone manages to be good at some things it means that a model can be built so that someone else can also achieve it.

Communication model

It is understood that it is the way in which we manage to perceive the message through a model that each one possesses mentally. According to O'Connor, he expresses that "The meaning of communication is the response you get." (O'Connor & Seymour, 1995)

Then, it is said that communication is constituted not only by words, but also depends on the language of our body, and the tone of voice that is used to express ourselves and transmit information to others.

Metamodel

It is a model that Bandler and Grinder developed, in which they tried to explain about the deep and superficial structure, that is, that when a person speaks it is because they have an internal and deep model, within themselves, for which NLP tries to extract information that has not been expressed by the person.

Within NLP there is a phrase that says "The map is not equal to the territory" this means that people do not always respond to reality, rather to the perceptions that each of them has about what is around them or the circumstance in which it is found through representations (maps) each represents a different one from another person, each one perceives it through the senses (sight, smell, touch, hearing and taste) this is considered the territory.

All the information that comes from the outside bombards our senses every second, but only the unconscious mind manages to capture a minimum and this is managed to filter with the help of how values, memories, beliefs, among others, influence it to accept what we want to receive. These filters are known as behavioral frames, and it consists mainly of the way we think and the way we act.

Sometimes, many of the people believe they have a correct map of things according to their perception and they believe that others are not right that only they are right, each one designs their own map and focuses on the basis of their own beliefs That is why it is often incomprehensible and unintelligible when establishing communication and a relationship with someone else.

The behavior frameworks consist of:

  • Being oriented towards the objectives and not towards the problems (failure framework): consists of discovering our goals and moving towards them in a positive way and not falling into negativity that does not lead to anything useful. Each person should question more the How? What the Why? For which this question does not help to solve the problem that one has, but quite the opposite is only justified, instead with the How? It helps to solve, how I can do to solve my problem. The interaction (feedback) against failure, for which this second term should not be considered as failure, rather it is a result that was not expected and that is had what to consider as learning, and with the interaction the objective to be achieved remains firm. The possibilities more than the needs,Here it must be taken into account that goals must be set that can be considered possible, that what really needs to be done. And finally, NLP adopts an attitude of curiosity and fascination rather than making simple assumptions, if the questions are clear. Goals, no matter how difficult they are, it is better to take an attitude and pretend that they can be achieved, than simply to do nothing.

NLP has some limitations according to Grinder and Blander, which are presented below:

  • Neurological limitations. They stated that they believed that the function performed by the brain, the nervous system, the organs and the senses, can eliminate more than be productive, since each human being is capable of being able to remember everything that he lived and can also perceive it, although these in turn only filter that information so as not to overwhelm the individual with so much knowledge that reaches him / her Social limitations. An important limitation can be considered is the type of language or language that each individual has since that limits the communication between several people, each one perceives different things according to the culture from which they come. Individual limitations. Each person has a record of personal stories that they have had grace to live and that are unique, and, with this they also tend to generate their own models with which they perceive the world around them.

Learning process in NLP

NLP has an offering within its catalog of tools in which it explains a way of how learning is achieved.

The four stages of learning:

  1. Unconscious incompetence (does not know that it is a television and does not know how to use it) Conscious incompetence (the person is conscious but does not know how to turn it on but tries) Conscious competence (the person already knows how to turn it on) Unconscious competence (the person knows how to do things but is distracts by doing others for example reading, laughing, listening to music among others.)

You can unlearn when you go from number 4 to 2. And the same thing happens to be able to relearn is to go from number 2 to 4 with more options.

Benefits of NLP

NLP is used in various fields such as in the human resources part of companies in which it helps staff, as part of sales, interpersonal communication, the educational part, in therapy processes, for health and with them they can achieve better results and that these are faster and more efficient.

  1. With NLP, communication can be facilitated, it helps to favor the leadership and direction of groups. They have access that helps to discover those internal resources of people who were not aware and that help to achieve their goals that before did not seem to be going to become a reality. They improve health, since with the help of NLP some negative emotional states such as depression, phobias, disorders, among others, can be overcome; at the same time it detaches you from bad habits such as tobacco, drugs, alcohol etc. It helps to have better self-confidence, since it helps to function better by leaving shyness and situations that could be traumatic. It increases concentration to study as well as the creativity of each and help with strategy creation. It helps to change the beliefs that are negative to turn them positive. It helps professional development, since thanks to NLP those in charge such as doctors, psychologists, therapists etc. They can help people to achieve their dreams Helps with increasing self-knowledge It is a manager of emotions as it helps people to control them and know how to be in a situation that is not known, an example is when you make an exhibition and you are afraid and nervous, it helps to control it and let it flow to be able to communicate what you want them to know. It increases the motivational strategies in which it helps to achieve their goals in an effective way. It helps to understand the learning style that each one possesses..Develop strategy for a better way of making decisions. It helps to better understand making changes in the way we do things through understanding, acceptance and learning.

NLP and decision making in organizations

NLP is a tool that all companies should implement in order to reach their objectives, they would help in the area of human resources, in the recruitment and selection of personnel, as well as in the area of sales and marketing.

NLP helps in the recognition of what each person knows about himself, then we can take it to the business field, where we know what the company is and what it wants to achieve, this will be easier when making decisions and those in charge of executing them.

Many times it is very difficult to make a decision because of the fear of thinking what is decided may be wrong, but by doing it so many times you can practice and be more aware of what is being done.

That is why the person who makes the decisions in the company must be a person who is involved with all the aspects to consider to implement the decision and who through the tools and the grounded values of the person can be able to execute the plans and meet the objectives in a more efficient and congruent way, having analyzed the entire environment.

For this, some benefits are considered:

  • It helps to improve communication between its members Improves training It seeks to improve based on more effective techniques It achieves a more productive and quality development It improves the way of acting of the people who work within the company  Identify the values of each person.

conclusion

Neuro-linguistic programming is a tool that helps us direct our thoughts through a filter and maps to determine which is the best alternative to carry out the tasks and tasks we want.

Thanks to it, we can see ourselves differently, since it changes the way we perceive ourselves and the world around us, it helps to establish better ways of learning, in companies models can emerge to apply, training and that everyone has in Consider the way you want to work, this will help increase productivity.

If most companies carried out NLP practices to help change people's thoughts and the way they work, they could achieve better results.

A good leader capable of making decisions is a person who knows himself and who can also be an example to make changes in people, leading to business success, without neglecting the values and mental maps already established over time. effective communication.
