Bluetooth technology

Anonim

The need to connect networks is becoming simpler, less expensive and simple to configure, since nowadays we can find a network just around the corner, being able to observe that the users are not specialized people, but nevertheless, They can implement Bluetooth technology, one of the least known but the lowest cost, easy to configure and implement and without having to pay for licenses, thus forming wireless networks.

Today, Bluetooth technology is used as a network link standard that allows users to make wireless connections, thus being able to transmit voice, image, data, multimedia, among others, having multiple uses in daily life.

Development

It all started a few years ago, around 1997 when a group of leading companies in their market joined together in a group called SIG (Special Interest Group) with the aim of communicating different technologies and devices in a way that no one had ever done before. In fact, it is to say wirelessly, this was not easy, but thanks to the fact that each one of the companies to mention a few: Intel, IBM, Nokia, Microsoft, 3Com, Motorola, among others, joined the cutting-edge technology they had at the time resulting in Bluetooth Technology.

Origins:

The name of Bluetooth comes from a well-known Danish and Norwegian King named Harold Blatand, which in English would be Harold Bluetooth (Blue tooth, which in Danish means “dark complexion”), just like Bluetooth Technology at the time the King was known for unify different Norwegian, Swedish and Danish tribes.

Bluetooth is a global wireless communication standard established by IEEE 802.15.1, where you can make Wireless Network connections having the possibility of transmitting voice, data, image, multimedia between different devices using short-range radio frequency technology.

With this new Technology we can forget about all types of cables (twisted pair, coaxial, fiber optic, telephone, etc.) used as dependent physical media, thus being prone to possible failures, interference, and unnecessary expenses. Another relevant aspect is the configuration of the equipment, previously it was necessary that both hardware and software could be compatible, this would no longer be a problem, since different technologies and devices can be connected. Regarding the form of administration of this technology, it can be mentioned that it is simple, since you only need to make a link between the devices that you want to connect with each other and without the need to configure the equipment alone they connect,It is only a matter of implementing the search for the devices that are within the communication area so that the connection can be established.

Most of the LAN networks that are regularly implemented in homes, small and medium-sized companies have the need to exchange information in the simplest way that exists, investing the minimum of resources and obtaining the maximum of results, in these circumstances the Bluetooth technology offers a favorable response to these needs, since it meets the expectations of this type of LAN networks, which if implemented would obtain greater benefits, lower costs, greater security, ease of communication, cables would be eliminated (better aesthetics, without wiring) and ease of data synchronization among others.

Wireless networks:

A Wireless Network is that Network (set of computers connected to each other using a common medium and protocol in order to share information), which does not use physical means, but rather, propagation of electromagnetic waves, using radio frequency for data transmission. Some of the disadvantages of this technology are: that it uses radiation approximated to household appliances such as cordless telephones, microwave ovens, which can cause interference in the communication of devices.

Bluetooth implements short-range Radio Frequency Waves, as it is one of the simple, inexpensive means of transmission, easy to configure and manage.

The wireless links of more than two devices implementing Bluetooth technology occupying the same physical medium are called Piconet, each device has a unique address of 48 Bits, when a device searches or detects another it is called "Inquiry", to regulate it traffic in the channel, one of the devices is called "Master" who is the one that establishes the connection and all the other devices are called "Slaves". This type of network operates in a multi-user environment, and this is transparent to them, as every link is encrypted and protected against interference and loss of link, this technology can be considered as a short-range and very secure Wireless Network. The protocol that is implemented is that of Base Band which provides transmission channels for voice and data, being capable of supporting one asynchronous data link and up to three asynchronous voice links, this is combined with circuit and packet techniques to ensure that they arrive in order.

Characteristics:

Some of the features of Bluetooth technology are as follows:

Frequency: 2.4 GHz

Technology: Spread Spectrum

Transmission power: 1mW for 10 meters, 100mW for 100 meters

Maximum voice channels: 3 per piconet

Maximum data channels: 7 per piconet

Data rate: 721 Kbps by Piconet

Coverage: 10 Meters

No. of devices: 8 per piconet and up to 10 piconet in 10 meters

Power: 2.7 Volts

Power consumption: From 30µA to 30µA transmitting

Interference: It is minimal, fast jumps in frequency of 1600 times / second are implemented.

On the other hand, as can be seen, the characteristics that make up this new technology are very few compared to the needs we currently have in the implementation of Wireless Networks, since a higher transmission speed is required, a greater number of connected computers, as well As, a broader coverage for large companies, one of the implementations for this technology would be to establish LAN networks, small, functional and simple connections where bandwidth is not so important.

However, bluetooth has been changing its version, expanding its characteristics to improve its performance in terms of data transmission speed, coverage, number of devices, among others.

Functioning:

Bluetooth technology works as follows, each device must have a “CMOS” (tranceiver) microchip that transmits and receives the signal estimated at 2.4 GHz frequency, each device, as mentioned above, contains 48 Bits, it works within a range of 10 meters having a data transmission speed of up to 3Mbps in Bluetooth version 2 with a frequency of hops that allows communication in areas where there is a lot of electromagnetic interference using encryption and verification schemes.

When data transmission is carried out, it is done through the following scheme, a packet can be exchanged in each slot between the master unit and one of the slaves, each packet contains 72 bits of access code that corresponds to the identity of the master, the packet header contains 54 bits contains control information such as the media access control (MAC) address, packet type, flow control bits, the ARQ (Automatic Transmission Repeat) scheme and a header error, subsequently from 0 to 2745 Bits are the data which can cover one, three or five slots.

Advantage:

One of the advantages that we find with Bluetooth Technology is when communicating devices in a short range, in a simple and comfortable way, and without the need to be dealing with the types of cables. Thanks to the fact that it is a standard it can be implemented all over the world because it is already established by the IEEE 802.15.1, not having the need to use drivers for the different devices provided within Bluetooth technology, on the other hand it has low consumption frequency, minimum cost, integrated security, reliability and ease of use, within the world the same 2.4GHz frequency is implemented which belongs to one of the Scientific and Medical Industrial Radio Bands (ISM) which does not require a License and it can be used with ease.

Another advantage it has is that it is available on a variety of devices, from mobile phones to medical instruments, cars, wireless networks, etc. Its low energy consumption, small size, and the low cost of microchips allows the use of this technology, an infrastructure is not needed, it is easy to install and configure, and no cables are used in the connection.

Security:

Within this type of Bluetooth technology, there are different ways in which the integrity of the data transfer security within the cell phone can be broken, one of them is Bluejacking, which consists of the anonymous sending of business cards wireless technology, typically contain a light or flirty tone message, rather than the sender's name and phone number. Another way is called Bluebugging, which consists of people with the necessary knowledge obtaining access to the functions of the mobile phone through Bluetooth wireless technology, without the user being notified or alerted to it. The Bluesnarfing,is the procedure by which hackers access data stored on a phone with bluetooth technology without alerting the user that a connection has been established with their device. The Cabir Worm, is a software also known as “malware”, it is installed on the phone and is sent to other devices via Bluetooth, so that the user is affected, he must accept the worm and install it manually inside the device.

Applications:

The main one of the applications is to stop using cables to connect devices to each other, that the configuration form is simpler, that the data is more secure, the multiple applications with Bluetooth technology are more friendly for the end user, as well. Like, it has the characteristic that when entering a domain a new device is recognized, in the same way it is used within the Wireless Network sharing an Internet connection, there are also multiple applications that can be implemented with this new technology.

Conclusions

Within the field of Wireless Network connections we can find a great variety of technologies that compete with each other to provide a better and faster communication service between different devices transmitting information among themselves, coupled with this is the technological advance that is increasingly more surprising because technology advances by leaps and bounds in telecommunications offering a better way to interconnect devices wirelessly using Bluetooth technology.

Bluetooth is the beginning of wireless telecommunications, which will not only be used in cell phones. This technology contains an endless number of excellent characteristics that open the possibility that in the not too distant future Bluetooth Wireless Networks will be implemented within the home, business, work, school, public places, as well as, for different approaches and uses of transmission of information.

From the economic point of view, there would be a great monetary decrease when technologically updating us in one of the most recent forms of wireless network connection, implementing this, companies that did not want to invest in an update will be able to do so because it is not very expensive It is easy to configure and they will not have to spend too much on training to know how to handle Bluetooth technology, on the other hand it is simple to learn to handle it so they will not have to invest in non-produced and unpaid working hours, on the other hand It will be possible to be at the forefront and be more updated since the resources that were previously destined for Technology will be really used for it.

On the other hand, hardware and software can be joined to make more complete and more useful Bluetooth connections such as wirelessly transmitting information from a cell phone to a PC or a network, Wireless Internet Access or any device controlling it with Bluetooth technology.
