Although the phrase seems hackneyed, organizations that fail do so because those who lead it do not show the commitment embodied in their vision, with their actions against those who owe it: Their people. No one who intends to service a unique and differentiated customer will, if inward of your business, does not have an exceptional job with his people!

The great financial complexity that the entire world is going through has made companies focus on “doing what is necessary” to generate results that allow them to survive in the midst of turbulence.

In some organizations, the strategy is aimed at minimizing operating costs and expenses, in others increasing internal efficiency and productivity, and still others have decided to move amid innovation, so far it is not this opportunity to differentiate themselves that places them with some advantage against your competitors.

The real reason that none of these strategies seems to work is in three words: NO COMMITMENT.

I do not mean that the Board or Board meetings do not discuss the issue, in fact the word commitment seems to be in the mouth of the entire management level, and this is a fact: It is only in the mouth!

The word commitment is derived from the Latin term compromissum, which means an obligation that has been contracted. Well, in this sense, when I review the declarations of principles of different companies and different branches of the industry, I am stunned to see the excellent writing work they have done on the vision, mission, values ​​and philosophy of the business and if I consider this as an obligation contracted and put into practice, companies should be in a much more decent place, when it comes to measuring the level of satisfaction they obtain from their clients.

But what really happens? Why this commitment is not fully fulfilled at all levels of the structure of each company? Where do the dreams and good intentions that arose in those strategy meetings die, the investors or the people who have the job of running the business? Why in the end the clients do not receive what is promised to them and in justice they deserve?

"The results of a company are linked to the TOP of the leadership of the person who runs it and these come from the level of commitment that its employees adopt towards the purpose and vision of their business as a product of the action of all leaders to the length and width of the structure. Without congruence it does not go far, that is SAFE!

I am of the opinion that clients receive in the end what you really do with your collaborators. The equation does not fail, because the commitment that you keep with your people is directly proportional to their effectiveness against the purpose and vision of the business, that is, in front of your customers.

In several of my Business Men's and Women's Advisory processes, I hear stories of front-line Executives who are truly suffering from the attacks of hostile and tyrannical managers (it's the right word). Men and women who are working with one foot out of the company all the time, with threats from the person who runs the business, people who at that level are not heard by the maximum representation of the company. And if at this level, there is this degree of harassment, what can you think of the lower levels in the pyramid? How will it be possible for the customer to receive what they deserve, when the entire organization is not aligned with the business vision?

It is you who kill the company with your attitude, it is you Executive, Manager, boss, Supervisor or whatever your position is called, who represents the greatest threat to the business, even if you doubt it. It is their lack of commitment to practice organizational philosophy, the principles and values ​​that support it, and their lack of faith in people that generates a low level of commitment of people to their business.

I know it is painful words that I am saying, but they are more than real, they are pure truth and they are ultimately what you must fight against if you want to recover the credibility and trust of those who serve you.

Having them on your side means going in the same direction as what you have strategically planned, it means the possibility of aligning your resources with the purpose and vision of your business and therefore achieving a high level of results with customers.

Acting consistently gives you the opportunity to improve your competitive position by improving the level of exposure of the capabilities and potential of those you direct, but above all it gives you the highest possibility of converting the company, with all its areas and departments. that they integrate it in a single unit, in a united front that will allow it to fulfill the obligation that they have put in their meeting of Strategic Planning.

So it is not enough to write the business vision, it is necessary that in every corner of the company you really LIVE!

If you are one of the people who has had the job of directing others, you have a great responsibility, because depending on what you do inside your business, it will be the results outside. You are responsible for talking about what the Client means to the company and the importance of keeping it in a loyalty position, you must tell your employees.

Leaders Wanted… To do the right thing, ALWAYS!

To realize your vision, you require high levels of leadership throughout the value chain. You must drive a philosophy of doing the right things at all times. It is not about doing things right the first time only, as defined by the concept of Quality, but ALWAYS doing the right thing.

And to always do the right thing, you must be willing to do several things, including:

  1. To trust the potential of your people: We already know that you are the maximum representative of the company, but that does not mean that you know everything. Forget your whims: If the priority is the Client, the work must be done according to what he needs and not to satisfy his tastes. Let the experts work: You are direct, but you are not the expert. Make no mistake, you don't make the sales or the costs, you only lead, but your people are the ones who make it possible for these factors to be fully met as budgeted. Break the position myth:Not because you have the most important position in the company is the leader. Leadership is earned by doing the right things for a long time and it has to do with your willingness to SERVE others and not to boast your level in the organizational structure. Learn to communicate: If you are one of those who shouts or does not listen, be careful, because you do not know how to control your emotions and this can lead you to lose your credibility as a leader. Change your posture from pressure to inspiration: Stop using and showing your power in front of others, because doing so only loses your chances of establishing yourself as a good leader. Excellence is what matters:If you want to travel in the midst of Excellence, allow others to show what they are capable of and stop hindering them. Don't look for people who think like you: It's not that they think like you, but rather they stop doing it and think for the customer. Learn to connect with this principle! Pay Fair: It's not about lowering your payroll cost, it's about increasing sales and your market share. So when it comes to recognizing the successes of your people, do it without modesty. Fully acknowledge : It's not about opening the portfolio for everything, but recognizing the outstanding work. This is where you must use your brain, in recognizing and motivating collaborators who are doing a high level of performance in a thousand and one ways. Listen to the Customer's voice: Learn and teach your collaborators to listen to the Customer's needs and work accordingly. It is the ACTIONS that you carry out with the client that maintain your link with him. High doses of motivation and fair treatment: People are motivated and committed, when you act consistently with the principles of the organization. Remember: Just as you treat your collaborators, they will treat your customers. Play straight:Never present a double face to your people because their credibility will be at stake and with it their results and their permanence. The principle of Integrity must be part of your business philosophy. Terror Management: When you use repression or punishment, you stop the company from running. People will not dare to expose their potential out of fear and will choose to submit to their wishes. They will work for you and not for the client, WHAT A RISK! Eliminate the myth of knowledge:Your position does not make you possess the most knowledge in the business. You are to flood the entire organization with what you have learned. You are responsible for providing wisdom, but this does not mean that you possess all of it. Each brain that works with you has a large amount of information that must be exposed to better serve the client. Overcome your demons: Position gives you power over others, but not leadership. Eliminate the temptation to use it only in the hope that everyone knows you have it. Use it to pave the way for your people and to make their job easier, not to obstruct their development and to administer in terror. Putting power to good use is what makes it great, not its abuse. Looking for innovation, show yours:I have always said it, organizations change when people change, but you must put the sample. If your interest is to differentiate yourself, begin to be the difference for others, because only then can you be consistent with the change. Be consistent: A vision is achieved when practiced. And who directs is the first forced to comply with it. Love your people as much as your customers: If you want to achieve a high level of customer outcomes, treat your people wonderfully. There is no other way out!

The most important event of a leader is not when he achieves success through his actions but when he decides to take the first step to become a different person. Able to deliver to others the gifts that have been conferred on them and to show that their good judgment and capacity for action are consistent and reliable.

If for some reason you are in the position of leading an entire organization, always do the right thing, be consistent in acting with the values ​​and principles of your company, because only then can you be in the position of obtaining the best from others., whether they are followers, colleagues or their superiors. And believe it or not, to be successful depends on these three levels, so prepare to change, make change happen, and show great commitment to the leader you are.
