Every day we are immersed in a globally productive world, in which new products are constantly being developed in all categories with the apparent purpose of satisfying the needs of all human beings.

Could it be true? Is that really the goal?

It is more than clear that companies are interested in selling their products, and we are interested in buying them, but generally there is a tendency to fall into a behavior that is not beneficial for our planet, consumerism that is nothing more than an irrational consumption of the goods that we companies and industries provide and, which in the long run ends up being an important factor in environmental deterioration.

The Earth has a great wealth in renewable and non-renewable resources, but no matter how much it is, it is not correct to exploit them in an uncontrolled way because it would cause disorder on the planet causing problems for the human being himself. Each inhabitant of the earth is responsible for the changes that occur in the world, this leads us to reason in the aspects in which we influence to cause its deterioration.

The objective of this work is to publicize the positive effect that rational consumption would have on the planet. Focusing mainly on the way in which individuals acquire products, which are not always necessary.

Summary

Currently there is a bombardment of products by companies towards people, the implementation of marketing strategies force the purchase of products to be at the forefront of technology. Rational consumption is the answer to the cries for help that our planet gives, and that allows consumption but in a rational and intelligent way with a sustainable approach.

Keywords: consumption, rational, sustainable

Current consumption situation

It is common these days that people buy the same product 3 or 4 times, of which they will finally only use 1. The reasons that lead to this are mainly the advertisements that are transmitted by radio, television, magazines, among others, that have a hypnotizing effect on people forcing them to buy useless products, many times it is because of false advertising in which stereotypes of beauty and fashion are shown, what is meant by this, that people buy products simply because they are in context with fashion.

With technological development, many advances have been made to improve the quality of life of people, but it has also brought negative affects, an example of this is the development of various varieties of cell phones, televisions, computers that are the most salable products, but also the most disposable, these are because new models with more functions are constantly being developed replacing the previous models, and due to the chemical elements present in the circuits that make them up, they are a high risk source of contamination.

Rational consumption

Rational consumption simply aims to reduce consumption, seeking to generate savings from the resources provided by the land. When it comes to reducing consumption, it is intended that people first analyze what products are really necessary and buy what is commonly used without wasting. By doing this we avoid falling into consumerism and we help to reduce the amount of waste that is dumped on the planet every day.

Rational consumption does not come by itself, it requires a lot of participation, availability and mainly the desire to have a better world. It is important to be open to change the way of thinking, the habits and customs that end up leading us towards excessive and irrational consumption. It is vitally important that all people analyze the current state of our environment, and self-analyze what they are doing to lessen ecological damage.

The current state of our planet is critical, the news of climate change, the melting of the poles, damage to the ozone layer, soil erosion is no longer novel. We are already experiencing the consequences of the abuse of excessive exploitation of natural resources. If these situations are in plain sight why not do anything.

If our daily consumption were focused on the acquisition of essential products that cover all our needs, we are helping to reduce the overexploitation of raw materials, forcing companies to focus on improving the quality of products instead of offering exaggerated quantities.

Reasoning in our consumption is a key point to stop the overexploitation of resources, but it is essential to act to repair the damage, implement strategies focused on informing people of the current reality and on the consequences that will continue to consume uncontrollably.

conclusion

If all people saw the planet as a sick person who needs to be cured, we would be taking a great step towards the implementation of rational consumption as a measure to stop being the cause of environmental problems, and to get companies to implement actions and programs in production that benefit the environment. This will be accomplished until sustainability strategies are improved and production systems that directly impact environmental degradation are controlled.
