Creativity and innovation through design thinking

Anonim

The creative individual is someone who "regularly solves problems, develops products, or defines new issues in a field in a way that is initially considered new, but ultimately becomes accepted in a particular cultural context." Gardner (1995).

Introduction

This work will be based on the methodology called Design Thinking, a concept implemented by IDEO considered one of the most innovative companies in the world; the parts of the process that make up this model and its close relationship with creativity, which in turn shares its definition with the purpose of Design Thinking. Furthermore, it can be seen that creativity is somehow immersed in the stages of this methodology.

Development

We will begin by commenting briefly on the emergence of this concept: IDEO, which is one of the most innovative companies in the world and maintains a close relationship with Stanford University, attributes its success to its innovation method called Design Thinking, which would be Design thinking, in short words, would be defined as the method through which challenges can be observed and problems solved.

IDEO CEO Tim Brown defines Design Thinking as an approach that uses the designer's sensitivity and problem solving methods to meet people's needs for a technologically feasible and commercially viable method. In other words, DT is an innovation that focuses on people. (Brown, 2010)

One of the main characteristics of DT is that it focuses more on the design process than on the final product, and at the same time it integrates multidisciplinary elements such as the area of social sciences, design techniques and companies. In this way, it establishes each stage of its process, which are:

  • Acquire knowledge about the user and the general problem of the situation (Comprehension). The second stage is based on empathy with the user by making a close observation (Observation). The third stage is to define the user for whom you are finding yourself. the solution to the problem or the product (Definition). The fourth stage is based on the generation of all possible ideas. (Idear) The fifth stage is the construction of prototypes from the generation of the most viable ideas. (Build). In its last phase it is evaluated from the reactions of the users based on the chosen prototypes (Test).

In this sense, Design Thinking and creativity are closely related or analyzed in greater depth, this model arises thanks to the creativity of a group of people who used this ability to create, innovate, generate new ideas to solve problems with original and valuable solutions..

DT is a process in which a great generation of ideas is achieved through its stages, and one of its greatest advantages is that it allows you to test your steps without a rigid order; this allows you to rethink the problem from a different perspective. turn find different alternatives for solving a problem.

conclusion

Really the importance of this methodology that arises from creativity, are the multiple benefits that it produces where there is practically no area of human activity that cannot be benefited with the use of a model that focuses on people for the resolution of problems. This methodology can not only be functional in the business area, its model allows it to be applicable in problems of global relevance, trying to solve problems in the area of health, education, ecology and education, to name a few.
