Summary

At the Technological University of San Luis Potosí, a virtual platform was implemented, directed and administered by the directors of the institution.

The platform is a solution that the university seeks in the form of an agreement and to link with another campus, for the incorporation and support of mixed modality engineering students, due to the little face time invested in said institution.

After the research carried out, the impact of The platform as a tool of the Technological University is presented, in the mixed modality student population, that is, students who are studying their engineering and a strategy for engaging and making good use of said tool, It is intended that the mixed modality student society feel satisfied with the educational tool offered by the university and that it is satisfied with the development of the tool.

Introduction

In 2014, a virtual platform directed and administered by the directors and Professor Omar Mora as a systems and technology specialist was implemented, with the help of “Chamilo”, a non-profit virtual platform whose main objective is to promote the use of software. Chamilo and ensure that it remains a 100% free project; for students of the Technological University of San Luis Potosí. Previously, each of the teachers was looking for an alternative for handling material and communication with their respective students, some more effective than others. The platform is a solution that the university seeks in the form of an agreement and to link with another campus, for the incorporation and support of mixed modality engineering students, due to the little face-to-face time invested in said institution,in addition to the easy understanding and understanding of the subjects; For eighth semester students (September), a pilot test is presented for the breakdown towards other educational plans offered by the university. At the beginning of the presentation of said tool, the student population did not project itself attracted to it; The institution involves the management of the platform as part of the evaluation of the students of the mixed modality program, this in order to make the most of it and anchor the users.the student population was not projected attracted to it; The institution involves the management of the platform as part of the evaluation of the students of the mixed modality program, this in order to make the most of it and anchor the users.the student population was not projected attracted to it; The institution involves the management of the platform as part of the evaluation of the students of the mixed modality program, this in order to make the most of it and anchor the users.

Justification

This project will be carried out in order to provide strategies to improve and help the virtual platform of the Technological University of San Luis Potosí; for its acceptance and productive use of users, which is for students who study engineering in a mixed mode and for future generations to take full advantage of the benefits that this platform proposes for the student community.

objective

Find the most suitable way for users of the E-Lerning platform of the Technological University of San Luis Potosí of engineering in development and business innovation in mixed modality to get involved with this tool and present a use of 50% greater hours invested by the student population (students and professors) to the current one.

Specific objectives

  • Prepare an investigation to propose a tool or practical guide for the correct use and exploitation of the platform by the users. Project the correct use of the users (students and teachers) of the platform. Implement alternative improvement in IDIE of UTSLP as pilot group, to expand to the rest of the university.

Problem Statement

"The little time invested, the attention and importance that the students of business development and innovation engineering mixed modality program of the Technological University of San Luis Potosí present to the platform of said institution project the productivity of non-contact hours".

Research questions

  1. What are the unfavorable factors that the platform presents so that IDIE students do not give it the expected attention and are not involved with the tool? What does the UTSLP need to do to capture the attention of students and meet the expectations of the platform? ? What are the reasons why students do not use the platform? What tools are the most used by teachers to share and develop information, in an efficient communication channel?

Hypothesis

H1 Implement and publicize a tool or guide regarding the E-Learning platform, from the recruitment of students and start of classes will bring better results.

H2 The platform does not meet the expectations of the majority of the students and professors due to the resistance that they present and the training implemented.

Theoretical framework

Delphi Method conceptual framework

The Delphi method consists in the systematic use of the intuitive judgment of a group of experts to obtain a consensus of informed opinions (Valdés, 1999), (Moráguez, 2001). It is essential that these opinions are not permeated or influenced by the criteria of some experts (Churches). For the mentioned method, there are certain characteristics that must be met for the application to be correct and these are the following.

characteristics

  • Anonymity: During the Delphi, no expert knows the identity of the others that make up the discussion group.Iteration and controlled feedback: Iteration is achieved by presenting the same questionnaire several times.Response of the group in statistical form: The information presented to The experts are not only the point of view of the majority, but all opinions are presented indicating the degree of agreement that has been obtained. Heterogeneity: Experts from certain branches of activity can participate on the same basis.

(Figueroa, 2011).

Focus group

The focused interview was disclosed by Robert K Merton in 1956 (1). In his text: “The Focused interview” 1956; Merton tells us about the origin of the Focus Group and tells us that its genesis goes back to group dynamics. For this reason, the group interview provides a special opportunity to obtain a picture of behavior and attitudes, person by person, instead of aggregate patterns that are the result of the generality of large-scale studies.

(First Public Relations Portal, 2015)

Development

  • Recruitment: Recruitment of participants should take special care of the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study, as well as an equitable intra-group distribution for each Focus Group. Moderation: Large rooms are usually sought, with a large table around which groups of six to twelve participants sit, the moderator occupying the head. The preparation of the report: it must answer previously established questions and that are generally the reason for carrying out the Focus Group. (Roussos, 2010)

Platform framework

It is a concept with various uses. Usually it is a base that is a certain height or that which provides a support, either physical or symbolic. The most common use of the term virtual, on the other hand, is linked to what exists in an apparent or simulated way, and not physically. With these definitions in clear, we can introduce ourselves to the concept of virtual platform, which is used in the field of technology. A virtual platform is a system that allows the execution of various applications under the same environment, allowing users to access them through the Internet. This means that, when using a virtual platform, the user must not be in a certain physical space, instead, you only need to have a connection to the Web that allows you to enter the platform in question and make use of its services. Virtual platforms are generally used for distance education and try to simulate the same learning conditions that occur in a classroom. Although each platform may have different characteristics, it is usual for them to allow interaction between students and between students and the teacher. For this, they have various means of communication, such as chat, forums, etc.Typically, they allow interaction between students and between students and the teacher. For this, they have various means of communication, such as chat, forums, etc.Typically, they allow interaction between students and between students and the teacher. For this, they have various means of communication, such as chat, forums, etc.

Permit systems allow efficient management of virtual platforms. The administrator, who is usually the teacher or the person responsible for the training, can access all the information available on the platform; the students, however, do not.

(Definitions.de, 2015). Mixed mode

It is characterized by its flexibility to study the subjects or modules that make up the curriculum, either face-to-face or non-face-to-face.

Requirements:

  • Commitment Time (attendance and non-attendance part) Maturity

Teaching-learning process, based on competencies:

  • Teaching methods and techniques: These are the mechanisms and strategies used by teachers to organize, systematize and sequence the student's learning process. Teaching materials and materials: materials must be incorporated to support teaching activities. - Learning. Training spaces: Classroom, laboratory / workshop, company.

Evaluation process for functional competencies: Partial evaluations are understood to be those applied during the four-month period considering some of the following criteria:

  • Performance Product Knowledge AHN (Attitudes, habits and values)

According to the evaluation program established in the corresponding period.

Delphi Method conceptual framework

These partial evaluations will be a minimum of two and a maximum of three. Technological University of San Luis Potosí. (2015).

Research design Methodology

The methodology of the revised research was applied in class and to support documents on the platform. Due to the nature of the study, the following was carried out: 1. A field investigation through a Focus Group made up of IDIE students from the ninth semester of the UTSLP to find out their perspective. 2. Delphi method with experts in the tool used in this research, from the same university. 3. Unstructured interview with an expert on the subject to support the knowledge of the background of the UT platform.

Kind of investigation

The Delphi method

It is selected because it is a tool that will allow us to know the experience of the experts on the subject of the E-learning platform due to its use and application in constant subjects. This method is used given the importance of knowing the point of view of people, in this case teachers who have direct contact with the platform and know its operation as well as the adaptation of the students and their point of view to the tasks and exercises left by the teachers who are the panel of experts. The Delphi method allows the visualization of that point of view in a criterion in which the teacher can widely give her point of view and receive feedback from the same responses from other peers. 22

Interview

This method was selected with the aim of enriching the information of the theoretical framework of our research, and based on this, take an orientation to rethink the objectives, hypotheses and scope of the research. The type of interview that was carried out was Unstructured due to the fact that there was a structure: base of questions, objective and determined time, however, as the interview progressed, additional questions appeared to those already raised, which were very useful and complement the research. FOCUS GROUP This method has been selected in order to obtain an approach with the panel that provided us with valuable information to efficiently develop the analysis on the subject of the E-learning platform that the Technological University provided to Engineering students in a mixed modality. This method is used due to the importance of knowing the point of view of the people who in this case are the student population, who have direct contact with said platform, since they are the ones who use this medium to be in contact with teachers and the subjects taught at the University.

Sources of information

First we must clarify that the information sources are all data resources, whether formal, informal, written, oral or multimedia, within this three categories are divided, primary, secondary and tertiary, and according to our type of research and data collection. Data we can affirm that the source of information used for market research was primary..The primary sources contain original information about the subject to be investigated, this means that the information has been published for the first time and has not been filtered on other occasions, or interpreted and evaluated by no one else.

In general, research with primary information sources is an eminently creative activity. The primary sources contain information from a result of intellectual work.

Types of primary documents:

  • Diaries.Experiments.Poems.Personal correspondence.Discourse.Paints.Interviews.Annual reports of an organization or agenda.Patents.Legal records.

In our research, the primary sources were applied in the following way: The information was collected from its origin, this means that the information was collected directly with the people analyzed, in our case the students of Engineering in Development and Business innovation at the university technology of San Luis Potosí, data collection is carried out through various procedures that allow us almost immediately to know the point of view of each of the people involved in the case: taking advantage of the e-learning platform, for this reason it is a primary source. For the Delphi method, we had contact with the Business Development and Innovation teachers who teach classes in this mixed modality and also use the platform to maintain communication with the students of said career. For the focus group, students from the business development and innovation degree were summoned for a period of 10 to 15 minutes, in which 24 debates and opinions of all styles were opened, depending on their experiences with the e-learning platform.. And an interview with an expert in the matter of the use of the platform in which information was obtained immediately. The information collected was collected in a capture matrix to synthesize responses and make the analysis more comprehensive and unified. For the focus group, students from the career of business development and innovation were summoned for a period of 10 to 15 minutes, in which 24 debates and opinions of all styles were opened, depending on their experiences with the e-learning platform.. Analysis of the information

The researchers' analysis is presented below according to the qualitative nuance used as an instrument. The analysis was carried out in detail and objectively in order to give efficient results to the detected problem.

Delphi method

By applying the Delphi method to our panel of experts, it was possible to obtain key opinions and points of view about the teachers 'perception of the students' participation with the platform and its adaptation throughout the period. The highest percentage of experts agrees that the best way for students of the Technological University of San Luis Potosí to pursue a career in Engineering in Development and Business Innovation is to provide personalized training for each group, or as a secondary activity a general talk of the E-learning platform in which tutorials are included. The teachers agree that the reason why in this season the students of the Technological University of San Luis Potosí still do not adapt to the E-learning platform because they are lazy about the additional work that it requires when having to corroborate the hours not face-to-face that the mixed modality requires for the career of Engineering in Development and Business Innovation.

Another activity that does not allow the adaptation of the students according to the point of view of the experts is that the delivery of materials and the sending of documents by this means have not yet been completely required. The activities to be carried out so that the students begin to master the tools of the platform and fully achieve the understanding of each one of them as the most important action is to practice, supported by motivation, this implies taking assistance through the platform can be through tasks, exercises or participation in an activity.

The panel of experts in this method agrees that the least used tool on this platform is institutional mail, which, in addition to being a good contact tool, is almost totally unknown to students. To conclude with the results of this method, it can be seen that the progress of students and teachers on the platform is slow, with resistance on the part of the students, and in summary the platform results in little use, this means that the tools that are included in the platform are unsatisfactory use for our studied market, which are the students of the Technological University of San Luis Potosí, who are in the ninth grade of the Business Development and Innovation career.

Focus group

When conducting the Focus Group at the Technological University of San Luis Potosí, he noticed the attitudes and thoughts of the sample that was taken for this activity with students of engineering in development and business innovation from the 3 groups that have this educational plan. The comments provided by these people give us as a team the guideline for making decisions and starting with the structuring of the guide that is intended to be made known to the university and the student society of the organization, in this method a series of questions were asked open in order to learn more about the comments regarding the ideal use of the university platform, the time dedicated to it, its tools, among others. We have perceived with the responses obtained that the students are dissatisfied by the graphics used on the platform as well as with the training provided to the students, since the information obtained from it was null, leaving them in a uncomfortable situation when not fully knowing the use of this educational tool. It was recognized that daily activities have a greater value for students than the use of the platform. 32 Students detect problems with the way of sharing or uploading files in this tool, since they find it difficult to do it in addition to the fact that there are dialog boxes that show errors when not uploading documents properly. The aforementioned makes it known that the platform at the university has unknown functions for the student,as well as computer failures that can be solved with good administration of this E-learning platform that the university proposes for students in engineering in 2014-2015 and for future generations of students that the organization may have.

Conclusions

For what has already been stated in this research, the objective was initially: - To find the most suitable way for users of the ELearning platform of the Technological University of San Luis Potosí to develop engineering and business innovation in a mixed modality to get involved with this tool and the use of 50% more hours invested by the student population (students and professors) than the current one is presented. In chapter four the methods used in the research are expressed and the conclusions that these show allow us to identify a strategy to achieve said objective, as well as the specific objectives, which are: - Prepare an investigation to propose a tool or practical guide for the correct one use and exploitation of the platform by users.- Project the correct use of the users (students and teachers) of the platform. - Implement improvement alternative in IDIE of UTSLP as a pilot group, to expand to the rest of the university. 33 The improvement proposal is presented below, taking into account each relevant point that was considered to mark the improvement change in the UTSLP platform system.

Introductory guide to the UTSLP e-learning platform

Objective: Disseminate the objective information of the platform, its scope and benefits for the student population (students and professors) in order to develop the use of it.

Steps:

  1. Presentation of the E-learning tool to users in an attractive and formal way as part of the innovation offered by the UTSLP, implementing the marketing tools available and the media, focusing on the welcome conference, granting a space brief for the presentation and knowledge of the platform. Training for teachers, prior to students entering classes, with the aim that they can support training aimed at these students and during the course of the semester. Using the natural system of the UTSLP (70% practice 30% theory). Developing friendly and engaging implementation techniques, with the aim of eliminating as far as possible the resistance to the use of the tool by users (students and professors). Work with the load in the student system prior to their entry, with the aim of developing training. Test the platform with user support to check if the system has the capacity to support the connection to whom it is intended. Take the first day of classes in the Mixed modality Engineering program, reducing time in the presentation of teachers and subjects, leaving free a space to train students with the tools and distribution thereof. Following the future plan of the implementation of the Elearning platform: In the preparatory courses for the TSU modality it will be taken as part of the time of subjects that implement,Introduction sessions to the use of the platform, such as: its tools, its distribution, use of them, including practice for its use, such as uploading documents, participating in forums, handling notifications, etc. Teaching courses in the building M, led by the administrator of the platform, Omar Mora, as part of the mentioned training; directed for each one of the groups and with a corresponding subject teacher and to solve the doubts of the users (students and professors) as a practice and theory. homework, etc.) Take attendance in class time from the platform, taking into account that teachers have on their personal computers or on a school team, the network to enter the platform and make it possible. Compulsory delivery of all products through the platform in a timely manner and monitoring of use of hours by students and teachers (monthly measurement reports). Activity that will be developed by the administrator, Omar Mora, to present to management and jointly develop strategies for the results, whether positive or negative. Follow-up by teachers with the burden and response of students to tasks and information that will help cover the corresponding non-contact hours that the program of each subject marks. According to the information obtained by the administrator of the E-learning platform (APPENDIX VI), Omar Mora the current hours used by IDIE 9 students has a total of 79:03:22 hours. With date of the current semester (January 5 to March 4, 2015); which means that once said guide is implemented, the number that should be reflected in the report for the following four-month period May-September will be approximately 118: 54: 50 hours, as long as the strategy with which it is concluded is applied. With the above, the first hypothesis is verified: H1

Implementing and publicizing a tool or guide regarding the E-Learning platform, from the recruitment of students to the start of classes, will bring better results.
