Parents school to improve children's education

The Parents Schools are oriented to help us to transmit to our children those values and knowledge necessary without losing sight of respect for our children as individuals, in this article we will see how to act and assume our responsibilities with them since There are guidelines that anyone who must relate to children and adolescents should be aware of in order not to make serious mistakes.

"It is a fact that successful people are those who possess, in addition to values and knowledge, a great capacity to understand their feelings."

One thing is certain: when we are young, we never consider being a parent. We think about our professional career and how we will develop in the future in terms of salary, internal level, company car, parking space and, of course, the title that will appear on our business card.

We will be the best! We learn to plan, organize, manage resources - human and material - and to be politically correct in our organization and, of course, a couple of languages better than just one.

However, sooner or later, we consider the idea of starting a family, with all the multiplicity of models that society allows us today. If we choose to face the challenge, nothing that we learned in our professional development and that supposedly matures us is valid. The children arrive and do not have a user manual and, above all, the guarantee does not allow us to return them to the factory.

Children are a gift in our lives, but a gift that involves great responsibility. Although we are born with our own character, the truth is that the family environment and the way of educating mark many aspects of our behavior.

And, beyond social behavior, it is also true that the skills and competences that we acquire when we are children can help us in all the future environments in which we will move, be they school, university, business or family.

Until now, we have focused on providing our children with 'two packages to carry in their travel backpack': the values that constitute our own way of understanding life and the knowledge that will help them move in society in the future..

Now, there is another package that, until very recently, we have not given importance to: feelings. It has been shown that having a developed emotional intelligence is necessary. It is a fact that successful people are those who possess, in addition to values and knowledge, a great capacity to understand their feelings and that of others. They are people who have a developed emotional intelligence. And, the most curious thing is that, it is not until adulthood when we find the need to control those feelings.

Obviously, we must begin to teach our children –and perhaps learn in advance ourselves– behavioral guidelines that, on the one hand, strengthen self-esteem –essential in the emotional development of the individual- and, on the other, develop the ability to relate., as social animals that we are.

In addition, social behaviors of the youngest appear every day that are certainly worrying: verbal aggressiveness, drugs, uncontrolled and very early sex, gratuitous violence, bulling, etc. This shows that we are doing something wrong. These behavioral deviations should not wait to be modified once they arise, but simply must be prevented. We must act very early to avoid them.

With these two objectives in mind, the so-called Parent Schools are started. They are aimed at helping us to transmit to our children those values and knowledge necessary without losing sight of respect for our children as individuals, developing behaviors that reinforce their emotional intelligence. In short, preparing them better for their personal development outside the protected family environment.

There are several streams of child psychology, multiple books, magazines, articles, and reference material. But the information is so much, and sometimes contradictory, that we find ourselves lost and we end up using common sense that, in most of the times, is correct but baffling. And, in addition, the lack of time caused by professional and social commitments does not help in this task of finding out how we should act in the face of tantrums, disproportionate requests, not eating, not going to sleep, not wanting to go to school, etc. Behaviors that must be corrected in due course.

Parent Schools help us in this guided learning among so much information. They provide us with simple guidelines in which common sense is always present but without embarrassing whoever applies it. Anyone dealing with children and teens should be aware of these guidelines in order not to make serious mistakes. Because we are going to make mistakes and that is the first thing we will have to assume: our own ability to apologize to our children when we make mistakes so that they see that making mistakes is really human.
