What would you like more: sell your time or sell a product?
If you're one of the people who shrugs at messages about how to make money while you sleep, you may be looking down on a great opportunity to live more freely. There are thousands of people in the world who have already taken these 5 steps and who are already doing it.
It seems to be an overly simplistic question, but, in essence, all people work in only one of these two areas: they sell their time or they sell a product.
If you sell your time you are within 95% of the world population that works giving their hours in exchange for a payment. Whether you are a doctor, a lawyer, or a construction worker, if you have to be physically present to generate income, you fall into this category.
There is nothing wrong with that. Decent work is a blessing from God. And, if you like what you do, I do not recommend making changes.
The problem arises when you think it is the only way to generate income. It is at this point that I raise my voice.
To understand me you have to know a little about my history:
I am a home schooling mother and I had to seriously question the traditional methodology of education when one of our children had learning problems at school.
According to the Bible verse that says that all the treasures of wisdom and understanding are in Christ Jesus (Colossians 2: 3), my very first source of consultation on any topic is the Bible.
After studying what the Bible says about learning and education, my husband and I adopted an educational methodology that I call "entrepreneurial education" and that fosters entrepreneurial and leadership skills in children.
We learned that traditional education produces people who are designed to enter the labor market.
That is why very few people know how to undertake! They are programmed to follow other people's indications, to comply with the realization of other people's ideas, instead of acting on their own, according to their own ideas.
If this makes sense to you and you want to consider making income by selling products instead of selling your time, here is what you need to do:
- Educate yourself: In the same way that you were educated to exchange your hours for dollars, you have to re-educate yourself and change your mindset to that of an entrepreneur. Study the world around you and look for a hungry market that you can satisfy with your knowledge, skills and experience. Look for ways to "package" your knowledge and skills in formats that you can sell without being directly present: e-books, audios and / or videos. Look for a business system that allows you to deliver these products 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and for many months, as automatically as possible, such as a membership site. Position yourself as an expert on your topic and keep adding products and services to your business.
You will see that, over time, the income you earn per hour will be replaced by income earned through products.
And voila! You will be within the 5% of the world's population that enjoys the freedom of not having to be tied to an activity that requires you to sell your time in exchange for money.
