Keywords: Decision. Logistics and Transport. Factors.

C) INTRODUCTION

Background.

Technological Universities emerged in Mexico in 1991 as decentralized public bodies of state governments. The educational model is supported both by six attributes that frame and guide curricular development and its application, as well as the linking function. The year of creation in the state of San Luis Potosí is in 1997.

One of the careers that this institution has is Business Development. The students of this career within their 3rd semester can choose between two paths to different specialties. One of them is the specialty of Logistics and Transportation.

Giving the option of choosing the specialty in Logistics and Transportation to the students of the Technological University of San Luis Potosí in the Business Development career arises in 2012 due to the demand demanded in the market in said area, this generates certain uncertainty and perplexity among students who must choose one of the specialties that the aforementioned institution has (Marketing-Logistics and Transport)

Justification.

This research that refers to identifying the 3 main factors that intervened in the decision-making of the students of the Technological University of San Luis Potosí for the specialty in Logistics and Transportation, is justified because it performs an analysis of both internal and external factors that could intervene when selecting said specialty. With this research it will be possible to distinguish if the decisions made by the students who are currently in the 5th semester in business development with a specialty in Logistics and Transportation have met the expectations they had for said specialty

Research objectives.

General objective

Identify the 3 main factors that intervened in the decision-making of the students of the Technological University of San Luis Potosí in the Business Development degree that they are currently studying in the 5th semester when choosing the Logistics and Transport specialty.

Specific objectives

  • Know how much information the student had regarding the logistics and transportation specialty prior to their decision, know what motivated each of the students when making that decision, analyze whether the students were really sure about choosing that specialty.

D) STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

You want to know the various motivators that drove UTSLP students in the Business Development major in Logistics and Transportation to lean towards this specialty. This institution does not have data of this nature, and through the results of this research, you will be able to see if what is shared with the students is sufficient material to make a correct choice.

Hypothesis statement

  • H1.- Factor of the labor area that covers the specialty in Logistics and Transportation has a great impact on decision-making.H2.- Decisions made with an uncertainty type H3.- The decision they made up to now meets what they expected.

Research questions

  • How did parents, teachers and friends influence the decision-making of UTSLP students? What does the student need to know prior to the decision-making for some specialty? Does the information that the student intervenes to a great extent read and listen in relation to the labor market that offers this specialty?

E) THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

Conceptual framework

“A TSU is a highly trained PROFESSIONAL with a solid scientific-technological background, both in its theoretical and practical aspects, and with the skills and attitudes necessary to communicate, work as a team, identify and solve problems in the specific area of their professional competence as middle management of companies and institutions in the productive and social sectors. ” (Industrial Vision).

To deepen the analysis, we will refer to a document from the University, where the concept of the specialty in logistics and its role in society are discussed. From the document we highlight various aspects:

The Higher Technician in Business Development in the Logistics and Transportation Area is a professional who manages the different operating departments of companies that involve transportation, coordinating logistics processes comprehensively and emphasizing warehouse administration and management, as well as inventory controls., is skillful in supervising the different processes in transport and logistics companies. Due to the training and learning he is obtaining, he is also empathetic to direct the processes related to customer care and services. (Technological University).

Business development.

The student is competent to develop projects that improve the process of appropriate strategies, techniques and tools, to contribute to the development of any organization in its purchasing and supply control process.

Logistics.

It is “The part of supply chain management that plans, implements and controls the efficient and effective flow of materials and the storage of products. (Douglas M. Lambert)

Decision making.

On the choice of a specialty or career there are three dimensions on which the student decision can be analyzed (Whitehead & Raffan, 2006) these are: the nature of the courses, the prestige of the university and the career and together with this, fear of failure. When a person thinks about entering a career or specialty, not only does it think about the economic advantages that could be obtained by having an academic degree, but there are also other reasons that motivate entry to a higher education institution, some such as: need to obtain a higher degree of recognition. (NFER, 1998).

Referential framework

In the current economic sectors of Logistics and Transport there is a permanent need for training both for those who are already within them and for those who, in the future, want to develop their professional future within them.

The need that many groups from professional training currently have to have training at the professional expert level that brings them closer and introduces them to the economic sectors of logistics and transport.

SPSS software to tabulate each answer

Likewise, we rely on the Excel program, where we contemplate the graphing of the responses to each of the questions in our survey in a general way.

F2) Qualitative Research Design

A documentary investigation was carried out due to the fact that theoretical realities were investigated using secondary sources, in order to visualize the study plan by which this specialty is composed, as well as the profiles and requirements that the market demands to work in said area..

Information sources

For documentary research, secondary sources were used, since these were the first step in the search for information that we wanted to get to. The internet was used as the primary means of finding such information.

With the help of this graph, where all the questions contained in the survey were captured, we can deduce and visualize the three factors that we aimed to identify.

The three main factors that intervened in the decision-making of the students at the time of leaning towards the specialty of Logistics and Transport are: Teachers- Labor area- Symposium

We deduce that these factors intervene and play a determining role for students to dissent for this specialty.

H) CONCLUSIONS

To carry out the research presented here, a survey was carried out of 73 students from the Technological University of San Luis Potosí, who take the 5th semester at TSU in Business Development, Logistics and Transportation Area, at The pair made an analysis of the vacancies in the labor area that corresponds to said specialty against the study plan offered by the UTSLP.

In conclusion, after the analysis of the data thrown up by the students who live the experience of being the second generation in this specialty, it is determined that of the total sample, 73.98% of the respondents found “Strongly agree”, with the decision I make regarding your choice, the factors that intervened in such an important determination for your professional preparation stand out the professors, the work area, and the symposium organized by the same University, each of these factors influenced and motivated each one positively from them.

When making a comparison in relation to the hypotheses raised against the results obtained, we have the following;

Hypothesis 1. Work area factor has a great impact on decision making. It is fulfilled according to the results, with a weighting of 46.6%.

Hypothesis 2. Decisions made with an uncertainty. It is not fulfilled, since 82.2% said that their decision is based on certainty.

Hypothesis 3. The decision they made so far meets what they expected. This hypothesis fulfills, since 67.1% consider that they strongly agree that they have chosen this specialty.

It is concluded in the same way after the analysis that the UTSLP provides a large amount of tools and knowledge during the preparation of the students, this is reflected in the analysis of the vacancies in the job area to which they are directed. What is not so linked in the study plan to the vacancies offered by companies in this area is the French language, since it is not a determining factor that they have this language to be able to work within, which is require and request is English at a high level.
