Since 1955, Peruvian women have the right to vote. Law No. 12391 (September 7, 1955) amended the Constitution of the time, granting the right to vote to women, but with restrictions: literate, over 21 years of age or over 18 as long as they were married; Finally, the universal vote - with it the vote of all the women of Peru - was achieved in 1979 with the Constitution approved that year and became effective in the general elections of 1980. A good time has passed since then, but not enough; the women of Peru not only require laws or norms where they are included, but full and true equality; it is not enough to adapt the institutions and governments built by men and for men.
Women have always been characterized by their resistance and their commitment to build a better life, not only for us, but also for future generations; I don't think there is a woman who wants fewer rights or opportunities for her daughter than she has had. According to the World Bank, our country leads the list of female participation in the South American labor market, with 69%, that is to say: out of every 10 women, 7 have jobs, this without detracting from housework; In the educational field, it was only in this century that the balance in the percentage of access to higher education was balanced. Women are revolutionizing business and industry; but what about the government? Even with gender parity in the Council of Ministers, only around 20% of positions or public positions of power are held by women;equal pay has not yet been achieved, women still earn less than men.
Let's imagine women in power, making decisions; We know that when women occupy a public position or position they act differently from men, they collaborate more with their colleagues, they work as a team, they care more about well-being, it is evidently demonstrated that women really have a vocation for service, It makes a difference and it does its job. The political revolution of women has already begun, all over the world women demand jobs, demand access to education, demand governments where sexual harassment and sexual assault are not tolerated or allowed; women have been fighting against the status quo and breaking old taboos. Women are managing to consolidate themselves as the most powerful and important political force in the world, so that this is not a momentary event, a great movement is needed at the global level to guarantee full equality. Here are some ideas: first, not only should they resist, they should make their voices heard, women should be proud of their status as such, I don't think there is a person in the world who is against full equality between men and women. women; second, we must continue to fight against racism and homophobia, as they are problems that affect all of humanity; third, the universal right to choose and be elected must be guaranteed, under equal conditions; fourth, the woman must apply for all positions or positions held and, as there are, must try to be part of the solution and stop being part of the problem; and, fifth,society must bet on women, as candidates, as leaders, as protagonists of change.
By way of conclusion, as a society we face great challenges, apparently tedious, but the most serious problems are those that need our attention and participation; the women of Peru and the world are on the move, drawing strength and inspiration from each other, the woman has reached where she had never thought or imagined; the progress of the world is the progress of the people, women already have an active presence in the workforce, in business, in the educational system, all this must be oriented towards the construction of a true political power, only in this way will it be changed the country and the world, for the benefit of all humanity.
