Before entering into context, I think it is necessary to dedicate a couple of lines to the term “pyromania” (from the Greek πυρός pyrós, “fire”). It is a disorder of impulse control, which generates a great interest in fire, how to produce it, observe it and master it. The subject that suffers from it is commonly called a pyromaniac or arsonist, its essential symptomatology is to deliberately and consciously produce fires and it usually feels relaxation, pleasure, interest, curiosity and attraction with everything related to fire.

Experts on the subject tell us that arson behavior serves as a relief to situations of existential emptiness, boredom, frustration, anger, or desire for leadership.

After doing an analysis of the behavior of some managers, we came to the conclusion that there is a very good similarity between the "pyromaniac" and the "taskmaniac", the former is related to fire and the latter to tasks.

These nice characters, the task maniacs, perhaps driven and directed by the survival instinct, tend to feel relaxation, pleasure, interest and, above all, job stability as they are involved in the technical daily tasks of their collaborators. The feeling of heroism, for achieving the greatest number of tasks completed, prevents them from seeing that they are overlapping functions and are hindering the work of their collaborators and introducing noise in the psychological and organizational climate.

By putting out small fires (technical tasks, "outside of your functions", from day to day), at the end of the day, it translates into many small achievements, yes, in small satisfactions that prevent you from seeing why you are in the job. manager position, they prevent you from flying over, observing and analyzing what is happening in the forest.

Congratulations, you managed to put out small fires in the trees in front of you, but who will be in charge of putting out the forest fire?

Consciously or unconsciously, the logic of these characters tells them that as long as the fire continues, their stay in their large office and behind the manager's desk is justified. Logic, which around the corner, is quite illogical since history confirms that the natural condition of any company is to be immersed in constant change, therefore, to think that the fire we are avoiding will be the only one, is illusory since if so, it would imply the cessation of the business activity of the organization to which we are attached.

Metaphorically, as an air traffic controller, clinging to planning, organization, direction and control, you must direct the traffic of aircraft in the airspace and at the airport, in a safe, orderly and fast way, authorizing the pilots with necessary instructions and information, within the airspace of your jurisdiction, in order to prevent collisions, mainly between aircraft and obstacles in the maneuvering area.

Become aware that you are part of a team, you are part of a whole, rely on your experience and knowledge in order to evaluate the convenience of moving forward, slowing down or waiting and thus supporting the best performance of your collaborators, let them take charge of the small fires, you take care of the fire and you will see that by domino effect, your stability will be consolidated.
