Companies today seek to have more than quality in their products, they seek the participation of a whole work team, this generates a Management system, for this it is necessary to investigate new techniques around new knowledge and have the participation of the entire organization personnel, this in order to generate a competitive advantage for its competitive environment.
It is worth mentioning that the establishment of Quality Standards, Environmental and Safety Standards in an organization can help a company operate in a more efficient and effective way, since the information and documentation is provided to all members of the entity, making the company walk in search of the fulfillment of its objectives.
The term quality and safety are often difficult concepts to generalize due to the different ways of thinking, for what for some quality are "the properties and characteristics of a product and / or service that gives it the ability to satisfy needs and comply with consumer expectations, for others it is "doing things right the first time." On the other hand, security is different in its understanding due to the different mechanisms present in them, such as security teams even as awareness of the prevention of existing risks in the environment.
Currently, the concept of quality and safety as a set of follow-ups, and Standards are found in the ISO and OHSAS (international Organization for Standardization - International Organization for Standardization; Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series - Occupational Health and Safety Management System).
That is why the ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001 Standards allow the standardization of the vocabulary necessary to establish requirements applicable to all types of organizations, so that their activities are developed and controlled through them.
The ISO 9000 and OHSAS 18001 family standards are a set of international standards and guidelines for quality management that have been used as a basis for the certification of Management systems, the purpose of which is to give a plus to companies with the objective of creating links between your customers and being different from the competition.
The certification activity consists of evaluating the conformity of products, services or people with respect to what is established in the standards and specifications, in order to offer greater guarantees to consumers.
To carry out this test, ISO 9001: 2008, 14001: 2004 and OHSAS 18001: 2007 were taken into account, in which the first part of the 9001 describes the requirements of a Quality Management system, which seek compliance of the client's specifications and is the basis for, where appropriate, a third party to certify that the Management System carried out complies with the requirements of said Standard.
It follows that a Quality Management System is the set of coordinated activities to direct and control an organization with regard to quality, which is why the purpose of the Standard is to regulate each of the requirements established in it and that are communicated to all staff, so that together a comprehensive system can be achieved.
The objective of ISO 9001 is quality assurance which seeks to achieve compliance with the stipulated requirements and manage the processes to guarantee confidence in the products.
Within the general requirements of this Standard is that all business entities adopt a QMS, in such a way that they apply a new philosophy to improve the performance of organizations that want to approach excellence and increase the benefits of interested parties.
ISO 9001 has a structure which highlights the quality objectives and policies which are the expressions that are intended to be achieved and which are established by the Management focused on quality. This in order to determine the desired results and to help the organization plan and control its resources in order to achieve these objectives.
A QMS must understand and determine the needs and expectations of customers, as well as establish the policies, objectives and responsibilities applied within the process, so that in this way the necessary methods can be planned and prevent non-conformities and eliminate their causes..
8 principles of Quality Management
It is worth mentioning that in every organization those in charge of directing, planning, controlling and executing the Norms is the management, they are the ones who receive the suggestions from the clients and who plan how to satisfy their needs, in the same way as they will evaluate. the quality standards that suppliers offer in raw materials or products purchased by the company, that is, if you want to achieve total quality, you must start by setting the necessary quality of raw materials or products necessary for development and / or manufacture of the products or services that will be offered later to the end customer.
On the other hand, we find ISO 14001, which refers to Environmental Management systems. This Standard is responsible for regulating the actions that may cause a negative effect on the environment, being of great importance for companies to have control of their waste and the impacts that these could cause on the environment.
ISO 14001 is intended to provide organizations with the elements of an effective EMS that can be integrated with other management requirements, and to help organizations achieve environmental and economic goals.
Like ISO 9001, ISO 14001 has objectives and policies, but of an environmental nature, which integrate the legal requirements and significant environmental aspects, this Standard, like the previous one, is applicable to all types of organizations.
Something that makes this Standard different from the others is the application of the Deming method (PDCA).
PHVA method
It is in this way that an Environmental Management system is formed, managing elements of the organization for its application. The ISO 9001 Standard promotes the use of a process-based approach. Since the PDCA methodology can be applied to all processes, the two methodologies are considered compatible.
Finally, there is OHSAS 18001, which is known to be a standard that regulates occupational safety, has been developed in response to customer demand for a recognizable standard for the Occupational Health and Safety Management System against which their Management systems can be evaluated and certified.
At present, there has been a growing interest in all types of organizations to achieve and demonstrate the realization of occupational health and safety, having control of their risks.
The OHSAS Standards are made to provide organizations with the elements of an effective Management System that can be integrated with other requirements and in this way help organizations achieve established objectives.
This Standard maintains a close relationship with ISO 14001, since they carry the same methodology known as (PHVA) for its execution.
The integration of these three Standards that were previously seen make up a Comprehensive Management System, which is important for organizations, due to the benefits that it can provide them by forming an effective System that allows obtaining customers with a degree of loyalty, and can comply with the requirements established in labor and occupational risk prevention legislation.
