One of my clients asked me: How can I start and finish the Operational Plan of my company? And then he said to me: What can I do to make it successful? You would imagine that many ideas were around my head and then we began to dialogue. In this article I will offer you the 10 commandments to carry out a successful Plan for your business, based on the experience of having achieved with many companies, enriching results, I hope that they are also very useful for you and your business:

1. Make the purposes

In simple terms, purposes is the heart of an organization, on which we depend to make decisions, however companies today focus their attention on only generating profits, but imagine if we add a purpose, a reason to commit (cause noble), collaborators, managers, suppliers will support achieving this commitment, directly triggering more identified employees, greater benefits and higher productivity.

Purposes answers the questions Why do you do things? Why does what we do matter? What difference do we make in the world? What would our clients miss if we disappeared? The business purpose cannot be more than two words but it is excellent capturing and positioning in the mind and heart of all those involved in the organization. I am sure that you will think that this is very simple and at the same time very complex, but it is very important that you can ask yourself some questions before elaborating the Vision of your company and they are the following: How do I see my company this 2018? What do I want my company to achieve in this period? How will we do it? And when do I plan to achieve it? In the case of the Mission, the questions will be: Who are we? What do we do? What do we do it for? and after answering these questions we have to order it and give it a meaning that helps to externalize it (in the case of the Vision) and to Internalize it (in the case of the Mission).

2. Clearly define the Vision and Mission of your company

I am sure you will think that this is very simple and at the same time very complex, but it is very important that you can ask yourself some questions before elaborating.

Mission: It is what you do to achieve your purpose in a period of time. It is important to answer the following question: Who are we? What do we do? What do we do it for? and after answering these questions we have to order it and give it a meaning that helps to externalize it (in the case of the Vision) and to Internalize it (in the case of the Mission).

Vision: It is the reality that the company would like to see around the world, its clients and itself, it is necessary to answer the following questions: How do I see my company this 2018? What do I want my company to achieve in this period? How will we do it? And when do I plan to achieve it?

3. SWOT Analysis

It is precisely here where we must place great importance, since we have to identify the Opportunities and Threats that affect or drive the company, take into account that it is outside the company, since the company does not influence them, they simply exist in the environment, then of it to analyze the Strengths and Weaknesses, are those aspects in which it is important to be sincere with our collaborators to be able to access to know these details.

4. Create your Goals

The objectives will be created from the crossover of the SWOT Analysis, it is vital to put into practice all the possible creativity and point to the purposes, in this aspect it must be clear and determine achievements, be measurable, achievable and challenging. Many of us work just to achieve the objectives but the Business Advisory will be very helpful in developing it.

5. Set your goals

Every objective has to be translated in the time that will be achieved and especially in terms of what we intend to achieve in that time, it seems like a league obstacle but if it is clear when? and how much? We will succeed, if we do it well it will allow us to adjust our actions later.

6. Define strategies

Many speak of strategies as being equal to tactics and vice versa but they are not clear and defined, so having a definition becomes a bit confusing, in my experience strategies are a set of actions that allow us to achieve our objectives and comply with the goals, but above all the strategies are planned and in the case of tactics they are actions that are proposed at the moment to cover any unforeseen.

7. State your actions

The actions are defined based on the strategies proposed, the most important actions must be described and the time each activity will be completed, the actions must be pro-active, the environment can be unpredictable, so it is always necessary to create positive scenarios and negatives in order to have a broader picture.

8. Designate budget

Many plans remain on paper or simply are not developed because no budget is allocated, that is, we want things to be done with the least expense and in the worst case scenario at zero costs and no successful Operational Plan will be carried out without no investment.

9. Assign managers

The collaborators have to be involved in each one of the steps, of the realization of the plan not only for the ideas that they can contribute but rather for the responsibilities that they can take in the fulfillment of it.

10. Set control milestones.

Everything we have done would not be worth it if we do not establish dates to control compliance with actions and budget spending, all collaborators must be clear about both the activities and the budget allocated so that the expense and budget can be optimized. compliance with it.
