26 ways to promote your website

1. Give a title to each page of your website

Write a descriptive title for each 5 or 8 word page. Avoid all “filler” words in the title, such as “el”, “y”, “los”, etc. This page title appears in search engines when your page is displayed. Tempt browsers to choose your page, putting something attractive such as a benefit in the title.

Place this title among the tags (see image) of the HTML code of your page. The label to display the title is TITLE and it will look like this:

NOTE: use some descriptive keywords that accompany the name of your business. Instead of saying "Acme Cutlery" use "Acme Cutlery - pocket knives, pocket knives, kitchen knives." The more specific you are in your description, the more "blue words" will appear in the search engine and the more chances of getting visits to your website you will have.

2. KEYWORDS list

Let your ideas flow and write between 50 and 100 Keywords or Keyphrases. Think about what words or phrases a person could put in a search engine to get to your website. Then redefine the list and keep the 20 most relevant.

Keep in mind that, according to one study, the fewer Keywords you put in, the greater the chances of finding qualified potential customers. Use lowercase and capital letters in your Keywords. Try not to repeat your Keywords more than 3 times or you may be penalized by search engines for what is called "keyword spamming".

3. Write a descriptive page

Select 20 or 25 of the most important Keywords or Keyphrases and write a paragraph of at least 200 or 250 words (no more than that and including spaces). Insert these words in this writing. No need to repeat the words in your page title. Write in simple, understandable language. Analyze each word you write and replace those that are not relevant with others that mean a benefit to the reader.

Locate this paragraph within your HTML code within the HEADER AND / HEADER tags in a META tag in the following format:

4. Put your page in the search engines

Enroll your page in the major search engines and in directories. Do it yourself! Never accept or contract the "submission services" found on the Internet. They say things like:

"We put your page in 300 search engines for only $ 99!"

We DO NOT recommend this service! They will not help you since they do not position the page, they do not take into account that QUALITY is better than QUANTITY. If you have not already done so, subscribe to our newsletter and you will receive free updates and reports on search engines, directories and how to position yourself in them.

5. Upload your page to YAHOO!… or Google…?

Yahoo! It is the directory of directories, it is the most important and oldest of the search engines and it is very important to have your page listed there. To verify the pages that want to be listed, Yahoo! uses human people (not software). As it is the most important search engine, it has a special regulation that must be followed to the letter.

You can read this regulation at.

Currently, Yahoo is charging $ 299.- (US dollars) annually to be listed in its directory. Yes… it's a lot of money, especially if your business is starting.

It would be ideal if your site was listed on Yahoo, but if this is not possible, there is always an alternative… and it is GOOGLE. Registration is free and, in my particular case, Google provides me with a large amount of traffic. I personally recommend it.

But, in addition, there is something interesting in Google:

If you do a search on Yahoo, you will also see pages listed on Google. So it is another good reason to list all of our pages there. In my opinion, today, Google is the No. 1 search engine on the internet.

6. Place your page in the other search engines and directories

Again… never use the services of any company for this job. Believe me it is worth doing it yourself! It is not necessary to put the page in 500 search engines, you simply must use the 20 most important ones. This is more than enough. Then, over time, you will be able to incorporate others.

7. Request LINKS on related sites

You probably belong to a trade association or center or are a member of a site related to your business. Ask them to include a link to your URL. Even if you have to pay something for it, it will be beneficial because you will get qualified traffic for your website.

8. Include your URL in the stationery of each day

Be sure to incorporate your website address in your remittances, invoices, budget sheets, personal and business cards, sales letters, price lists, letter headings, stamps, etc.

I personally recommend omitting the "http: //" and putting only www.domain.com

9. Don't stop doing conventional advertising

Do not stop doing the advertising that you see can give good results. But be sure to include your URL in every ad, classified, flyer, etc. Use all the means within your means: magazines, weekly newspapers, newspapers, and even even radio and television. While the prices for radio and television commercials are expensive, you might consider doing just what they call “sponsorship” that is just as effective and less expensive.

The notice must be concrete, short and attractive. Attract visitors and then refer to your website to get more information

10. Provide a free service

Saying "Visit our site and learn about our business" is not the same as saying: "Use our free service to calculate your kitchen remodel that is available on our site."

Make no mistake, it takes a lot of time and energy to provide a free service such as our Continental Market Info Center. Make sure that the service is directly related to what you sell or the service you offer. It offers visitors multiple opportunities and links to get to see the sales letter of your website.

11. Request reciprocal LINKS

Find websites that offer products or services related to yours and propose an exchange of links (especially some free service that you provide). In this way, the visitors that enter through these links will be potential customers and will be really interested in your product or service.

12. Provides a news service

Find news, news, new techniques, etc., write a short report and send it to the people on your list or post it on your website. Creating and maintaining a website is a daily task and there is a lot of competition in this regard. Try to update it as often as possible. A page with tips, tricks and news is ideal.

13. Request Links on business sites

Especially if you offer a free service, you can ask them to place your link on the business link pages. When you have something free to offer, many doors open for you. Search the internet for related pages that provide this service. Then, send an email to the owner or webmaster with the name of your website, URL, and a short 200-word descriptive paragraph of what you offer. Kindly ask her for a link and let her see how they (and their visitors) can benefit from what you offer.

14. Capture email addresses and request permission to send updates

In a form on your website, request the email addresses of your visitors. Include a "checkbox" where the reader gives you permission to send them updates or offers of your products or services. I recommend that you capture the name, surname and e-mail separately, to be able to send personalized e-mails later. But ONLY requests the information that is essential or will not complete the form. Obtaining the e-mail addresses of visitors is a good way to start a dialogue or relationship with these people and show these people your knowledge, offer your products and services, etc.

15. Distribute a NEWSLETTER

Publishing a weekly, biweekly or monthly newsletter is another good way to stay in touch with clients or potential clients, build trust, demonstrate responsibility and promote new business. You can distribute the newsletter using your usual email program. Request that they register on your website to receive this type of service as on the subscription page of our website.

A mailing list is the most valuable capital that any business can have on or off the Internet. If you don't have it yet, create it now! (It is not necessary to have a defined product or service to offer… you can make the mailing lists in advance)

16. Set up a “signature” in your email program

Most email programs like Eudora, Netscape or Outlook

Express allow you to designate a signature to appear at the end of all e-mail messages you send. Limit the size of this signature to no more than 8 lines which must contain: your name and company name, address, telephone number, URL, e-mail and a descriptive phrase that mentions a benefit or an offer. As an example, look at the signatures that appear in my email messages.

17. Promote your website in “Mailing Lists” and “Newsgroups”

The Internet offers thousands of Mailing Lists with rated topics and Newsgroups with people interested in specific topics. You can visit and also Yahoo Groups to find some. Do not use Spam and only use Newsgroups where there is a suitable dialogue. Never try to sell directly in your messages… just send messages and respond with good content. People, little by little, will get to know you and have confidence in you… signing your messages will take them to visit your website and acquire what you offer. The main objective when participating in newsgroups is that your messages act as a link for people to visit your website.

18. Enroll in some "Mall"

You will be able to get some traffic, but not too much. The largest mall on the Internet is Yahoo !, but, as we mentioned earlier, it is no longer free. Anyway, you can find other "mall" or portals, like Google, Altavista or Lycos. Try to have the most pages in your directories and you won't need anything else. Paying to be in a mall advertisement is a good investment… and if you have to choose one to do it, Yahoo and Google are the right ones.

19. Advertise a contest

People like free things, but they also like to compete and more if the prize is something useful. You could propose a drawing contest, logos, tricks, gifs, animations, etc. Soon, the same visitors will take care of advertising you with their friends and acquaintances.

20. Participate in a banner exchange program

Of all the programs of this type, it is the best. Basically, you agree to display a rotating banner on your website, at the same time that other members will display yours. But be careful! This can also make you lose traffic… people who enter your website will be attracted by the offers of these banners and can "click" on them BEFORE they have read a single word on your homepage. If you decide this type of advertising, you must place the banner in question at the end of your homepage to ensure that the visitor can see what you offer first.

21. Buy banner space on appropriate sites

You can invest some money in advertising on banners. Choose sites that have an audience that may also be interested in what you offer. These ads can cost between $ 10 and $ 40 for every thousand people who see the banner. And, of that amount, it is assumed that 1% or 2% will visit your website. There are many sites on the Internet that are dedicated to this and can guide you to have the best results.

22. Buy advertising space in a Newsletter

It is one of the most recommended forms of advertising. A small ad of about 10 or 12 lines is placed in the Newsletter that have a large number of subscribers and also have a topic related to our product or service. This small ad should inform and motivate readers to visit your URL (your name and URL is the only means of contact that they usually allow to include)

23. Rent e-mail listings with qualified public

We all hate SPAM, e-mail, and unsolicited advertising. You should not do what you do not like to be done to you. It is a LIE what some companies offer when they say that they have a list of 10,000 e-mails with people who would like to receive publicity. No one accepts that! For that reason, if you think about renting an email list, make sure that the owner of that list is in charge of mailing for you. Only in this way is it justifiable to rent these lists. Otherwise you may be penalized by your Internet provider company or your server for “spamming”.

24. Position yourself in the first places of the search engines

This type of work takes a lot of time and dedication and it is convenient to do it yourself since it is a good source of traffic and you must make sure. But if you do not succeed, there are companies that are dedicated to this type of service. The techniques that I present in my book "positioning yourself in the search engines" will guide you step by step to achieve being in the first places of the most important search engines!

25. Work with affiliate programs

Basically, an affiliate program pays you a commission for sales made to people referred by affiliates. If you have your own site, you can implement this system for your business. I mean that you could hire other people to sell your products and services and pay them a commission every time a person referred by them makes a purchase on your website. You must determine the percentage or amount of the commission, choose a software that manages this system automatically (there are companies that provide this service and also offer technical support) and then you must promote, promote, promote… You can find these types of systems at http: / /www.cj.com or at

26. Invite your visitors to “bookmark”

It is very simple… although most people do not use this technique. It is enough to put a link within your homepage that suggests the reader to include you in their "favorites" folder and can access your website another time.

There are certainly many ways to promote your website! But these will allow you to have a very good start. These techniques will take time, but little or no investment. All these methods are explained in detail, in simple language, step by step and with examples on each one, in the 15 books that make up the
