4 Questions to determine if you need a drastic career change

Anonim

When you're unmotivated, frustrated, and your business or profession doesn't even excite you anymore, it can be difficult to determine if you just need a break, or if it's time to make changes and dedicate yourself to something else. Do I really want to stop what I do, or by making a change, things would be fixed?

If this is your situation, you will probably find a series of questions posed by Marie Forleo in one of her latest videos:

  1. How long have you been taking a break?Or as she says, how many times have you taken a break in the last 6 months? And not only that, but how much time do you spend on other types of fun, adventure or inspiration outside your profession? If you have worked a lot in your business or job and have not had time for anything else, it is normal that you are exhausted and unmotivated. It is essential to rest and disconnect, as much as you like what you do. As she says, you may love mashed potatoes, but if you eat it absolutely every day, it is inevitable that you get tired; and you will not be able to enjoy it again until you lose sight of it for a while. So do not forget, you have to rest and recharge the batteries so that you do not start to question all your decisions or think that it is time for a big change when perhaps it is not.If a new law were passed today that would prohibit the profession or business you are in, so that everyone who engages in that must immediately stop, what would you do? Would you be outraged and go out to protest? Or would you feel relieved to be able to quit what you do without giving explanations or disappointing anyone? Many times the expectations of other people do not let you see clearly what you want. You are afraid of being criticized or failing someone, in this case this question will help you think more clearly, your answer will tell you a lot about what you want. Do you apply the 80/20 rule?I have talked about this in other articles and it can be applied to many things. In this case, 80% of your professional frustration comes from 20% of your activities. Take a look at everything you do, is there a project or client that makes you lazy just thinking about it? Something you are wishing would be canceled? The key to staying motivated and eager is to identify and eliminate those 20% of activities that fill you with frustration. There is nothing wrong with changing things. Many times I mention it to my clients, as you go forward there will be things that no longer fill you or you like as before and you can change them, nothing happens, it is good to maintain the illusion and the desire. Do you put your natural skills, abilities, or abilities into practice frequently?I mean those skills that you are especially good at naturally. When you use your natural abilities in your day to day you feel good, confident and delighted with what you do. I remember when I was doing the coaching practices that I told my teacher that I did not feel able to charge for the sessions because I enjoyed it very much, it was not a great effort. That is what I mean, something you are so good at that it is a pleasure for you to do it, that you can hardly even consider it work.

If you have no idea which ones are yours, I, like Marie, recommend the book "Now, discover your strengths" by Marcus Buckingham, essential.

What is clear is that you have to listen to that little voice that tells you that you need a change. We all grow and change and that includes our passions and sometimes you realize that you need a drastic change. Is it scary? Of course, but you have two options, listen to what you want and make changes in a conscious way, or turn a deaf ear to your wishes and end up sabotaging your business or your life so as not to face what you really want to change.

What do you say? Do you need a break or is it time to expand your horizons?
