Human development. key piece for sustainability

It is everyone's decision what they want to do with their dreams, they can continue dreaming without acting, or acting and living their dreams. Amancio Ojeda.

Human development is understood as the process of expanding the capacities of people who expand their options and opportunities. It is also intimately related to the needs and desires that all people have to be better, whether on a personal or professional level, as members of our families and of our society.

However, one cannot speak of development if there is no starting point or reference and a goal set to be achieved, that is, a prior Gap Analysis is required: where am I and where do I want to go? last, not necessarily equal to where am I going ?. Hence the need for Self-knowledge as a starting point.

On the other hand, individual growth is broadly conformed by six (6) main elements: equity, empowerment, productivity, sustainability, security and cooperation, of which the following is mentioned:

• Equity implies that every individual, regardless of race, sex, age, social condition, origin, religion or other, is entitled to have the same opportunities to grow as a person.

• Empowerment involves recognizing the right of every individual to participate and decide how to change their lives.

• Productivity is related to people's participation in income generation and in well-paid employment, investing time, money and / or dedication to develop their potential.

• Sustainability implies that access to human development opportunities are accessible to current and future generations.

• Security is associated with the application and taking advantage of development opportunities are given freely and maintained over time.

• Cooperation is linked to the multiplication of information, so that each individual as a member of a group or community actively participates in its enrichment.

Thus, human development is a key piece for sustainability; given that education, being aware of ourselves as human capital, as engines for the growth of the economy of our countries, as sources of enrichment for our societies, as participants in our spiritual strengthening, are necessary tools to improve quality of life and environmental protection for us, our neighbors and our descendants.

If what is desired is a global development that, in turn, is sustainable over time, it is imperative to start from the integral growth of each individual, developing the skills that allow them to be citizens of the world. Likewise, Rivas (2012. p. 8) indicates that “ people with achievement motivation, commitment, perseverance, initiative and optimism not only succeed in what they undertake but also have a multiplying effect as they are sources of inspiration for the people around you” So, it is not just about targeting growth but, going further, is wondering how am I going to project myself? How am I going to share the knowledge that I have acquired? How am I going to make this place a good place for my children and grandchildren to grow up healthy, safe and happy?

The role of management

In today's organizations, the need for a management committed to the sustainable development of your organization and your country is increasingly palpable. To do this, you must in principle adopt the following habits:

- Promote self-knowledge.

- Identify the general, technical and attitudinal competences required for the job you are performing.

- Participate in the development of skills of its collaborators.

- Be an active part of their Work Teams.

- Identify your own strengths and weaknesses and that of your Work Team.

- Inquire about the longings and personal goals of your collaborators.

- Inquire about opportunities for improvement from the scenarios where you are, at a personal, work and social level.

- Keep up-to-date in relation to technological advances, engineering and human talent management.

- Investigate what successful organizations are doing in terms of Competitiveness and Social Responsibility.

- Get closer to their surrounding communities.

- Participate, support and promote some "cause", Foundation or other.

- Transcend and share your knowledge.
