Summary

The following work presents a brief analysis applied to the administration of the book The Prince by the author Nicolás Machiavelli, quotes from the aforementioned book will be used. The intention of this essay is to explain each appointment with an example applied in the company or in a managerial situation.

Introduction

The power struggle has always existed, in this case the following analysis essay "The Prince" whose author was the politician Nicolas Machiavelli. The purpose of this work is to analyze The Prince considered as the founding text of political science, although today this discipline has been developed beyond those recommendations since it now covers administration or accounting. The idea that usually has Machiavelli and his book read, is that of cynicism as an indispensable attitude in the tasks of business leadership. Without further ado, I present my work.

Background

Mr. Nicolas Machiavelli was an Italian diplomat, public official, political philosopher, and writer. He was also a relevant figure of the Italian Renaissance. In 1513 he wrote his treatise on political doctrine entitled The Prince, published posthumously in 1531 in Rome he spoke of Politics as it is, not as it should be. Machiavelli was a figure of modernity who knew how the empire worked in an unstable Europe and in a stage of reorganization. And, above all, I was aware that knowledge is power. At the beginning of the 16th century he was banished from political activity and, as a last resort, dedicated his book to Lorenzo de Médici. Later we will handle appointments for interpretation according to the administrative vision. The book is focused on rulers who intend to develop in a political position or invade a town, but despite this, it manages many points applicable in companies and personnel.

Development

The contributions that Machiavelli has made in his book The Prince, have mainly served managers to train as leaders and better manage their companies. He taught administrators that delegation of authority should not be done lightly.

Here are some quotes with their respective criticisms and applications to the administration:

  • "Since it is my desire to offer Your Magnificence some testimony of my devotion to you, I have found among my things nothing more beloved or more esteemed than my knowledge of the actions of great men" (NICOLÁS MAQUIAVELO TO THE MAGNIFICENT LORENZO DE MÉDICI). (Machiavelli, p. 3) In the previous lines we can see how the author exemplifies the vision he has when selling himself as a set of knowledge with a hint of fidelity by magnificence (contracting person). This is something that in the first administration classes they teach us to always be the faithful employee of our objective as a company and also to be more than a skillful person, to be a set of up-to-date knowledge. to be a prince, and to know that of the princes you have to be a people »(NICOLÁS MAQUIAVELO TO THE MAGNIFICENT LORENZO DE MÉDICI). (Machiavelli, p. 4) This refers to job analysis. It is evident that when making a job description and giving it a valuation for decision-making, it is necessary to know exactly the operational actions, but you must also master the ability to be a manager or chief. "I say, then, that in the hereditary states that are accustomed to the lineage of their prince, there are fewer difficulties in preserving them than in the new ones" (II. THE PRINCIPAL HEREDITARIES). (Machiavelli, Page 9) In these lines we could interpret it to new companies and established companies. It is common for us to present difficulties in new companies because they do not have a stable structure and are hardly positioning themselves. What makes you more unstable from competition on the other hand, established companies are relatively easier to maintain since we have a work structure, a position that has allowed the company to stay for years and already has a group of loyal customers. "And whoever conquers this type of state, has to respect two conditions, if he wants to keep them: the first is to eliminate the lineage of the former prince, and the second is not to alter either their laws or their taxes" (III. THE MIXED PRINCIPALS). (Machiavelli, p.13) In the previous fragment, it could be applied when positioning ourselves in a managerial position, it is necessary to know all the positions and make an analysis to know if people are really trained for each position. We should not arrive making changes without first doing an analysis to make sure that the changes will be for the benefit of the company.

conclusion

This book talks about the different ways to obtain power, how to preserve and increase it, under a very particular ethic. Contrary to the ethics instilled in us as children that speaks of respect, balance and that has happiness as a superior good, on the contrary, Machiavelli considers it correct in an opposite way, cold and more than an ideal, one day at a time, expressed in his maxim "The end justifies the means" is to say no matter how it is achieved as long as it is achieved. It is important to have broad criteria when reading the book and interpreting it, in order to absorb the good of Machiavellian philosophy.
