Chronic occupational stress

Anonim

Do you remember when was the last time you lived or felt frequent headaches, sleep problems, anxiety about drug use (coffee, tobacco, alcohol, drugs, etc.), inability to live in a relaxed way, impatience and irritability, detriment of the work capacity and quality of the services you provide to your clients (internal or external), increase in hostile interactions and poor communications ???

If some of the descriptions above make you feel identified, I think you should spend a few minutes reading the following article that I have written for people like you. But if you have never experienced any of them you are called to verify what to do to continue avoiding them!

Through the different conversations that I establish with friends, family and acquaintances, I have gradually discovered that a high percentage of the paisa population suffers from a large number of negative responses to the work environment in which they find themselves, these perhaps due to the multiple daily demands that are part of our professional and work needs; the phone rings, your inbox in the e-mail reaches almost 100%, your boss needs the reports urgently and last but not least you must be absent from your position to attend the meeting that was scheduled a few days in advance! In all these situations there is nothing left to say. I DO NOT GIVE MORE !!!!!

But…. What happens when your body really feels faint and you no longer have how to respond to your obligations?

One of the responses could be chronic occupational stress (BURNOUT BO syndrome), with specific manifestations. Throughout these years it has been the subject of sharp debates in the scientific field. The rapid increase in work on BO has been linked to the need to study it in relation to work stress, and the emphasis that companies and service institutions have placed on the need to worry more about the quality of work life they offer to their employees., seeking to improve aspects such as:

  • Physical work environment: noise, lighting, vibrations, temperature, hygiene, toxicity, space availability, overload, rotating shifts, etc… Quality of interpersonal work relationships: with bosses, colleagues and subordinates, lack of group cohesion, professional development, contingency measures. Training against new technologies as well as other organizational aspects, among which it is worth highlighting changes in required skills, work rhythm, degree of participation, autonomy and supervision… and finally. Support for extra-organizational relationships (family, friends…)

But… when companies ignore the prevention and treatment of these factors, it is precisely when a large number of their employees, as described by the Psychologist Ferrer, »begin to realize that something is wrong in their work, something is wrong at the organizational level. The feeling of failure invades them and they suffer anxious and depressive symptoms, they can even believe that they are physically ill. The process is cyclical: after a layoff, they return to their positions because they feel like working but encounter the same problems. Casualties will be increasingly prolonged and may lead to disability.

For all of the above, I want to appeal to both employers and their employees in order to make them aware of the role that each one must assume from their work to prevent syndromes like this that can later be exacerbated, involving serious physical and mental. But how to do it? According to Professor Mondelo, «the jobs must be designed to be of quality. In this way the company will gain in productivity and competitiveness, but so will the worker in quality of life. I agree with the professor but to his suggestion I would add that the commitment is not only of the companies since each of the employees must organize both their productive space and their working hours, this includes managing a daily itinerary, meeting appointments at weather, fair use of working time, reduction of socialization days in corridors with colleagues, intention to keep the inbox of the desk up to date, respond in time to the requests made by our colleagues, bosses or subordinates, etc., etc., etc.

The strategy is established by each one according to the needs and obligations that they have in their charge, the important thing is that we assume a preventive and corrective position to avoid being burned !!!!
