DEVELOPING
Babahoyo was founded on May 27, 1869, on the ceded land, opposite the confluence of the Babahoyo and Caracol rivers, it was established on the right bank of the San Pablo River.
For a long time it was called Bodegas, because the Customs and Royal Stores were located there, for the control of trade between Guayaquil and the cities of the Ecuadorian Sierra.
On March 30, 1867, the city of Babahoyo was hit by many fires, which destroyed all the property of the population, so the governor of the city decided to move to the place it currently occupies. It is currently located on the other side of the San Pablo River.

Guarumal Island
This attraction is located twenty-five minutes from the Pimocha parish, a waterway, where the river surrounds it and forms a small island where about 6 families live, finding a diversity of birds that take the site as a rest and then resume the flight.
The floating houses
The White Raft, the first hotel in Babahoyo, was built in the 19th century, it is a symbol in the history of the Canton. Olmedo House
Territory in which the distinguished Ecuadorian writer José Joaquín de Olmedo lived a large part of his life, the same one that inspired him to write poems such as: “Canto a Bolívar”, “La Victoria de Junín”, among others and the most curious It is here that the famous Virginia Treaty was signed, which is reflected in Ecuadorian history, a signature that led to the termination of the Government of the country's first President, the Venezuelan Juan José Flores.
The legacy of culture, history and significance that Olmedo left for our country is very great, especially because this famous Precursor of the Independence of Ecuador, lived in this place the most emotional moments of his life and its beautiful places allowed him to be inspired to think that Ecuador should be: "Free and glorious."
This House dates from the year 1865 and still retains as its own several structures while others were remodeled preserving their architectural part. Thanks to the efforts of the directors of the House of Culture of Los Ríos before the Municipality of Babahoyo, the necessary resources were delivered so that this beautiful place does not disappear.

Las Tolas
This site is located 30 kilometers from Babahoyo via Mata de Cacao in the La Teresa enclosure, the site is called Las Tolas where the cultural richness is appreciated, according to history the Incas buried the dead in large vessels in position supine, accompanied by a small trousseau, which they considered would serve them for their life after death. The utensils, knives and scrapers were made with obsidian. They used stone axes and adzes with wooden handles for farming and cutting down trees.
