Executive Summary

Software development is an activity that has gained great relevance in various sectors. According to an OECD report, the majority of companies at the international level are medium and small. In the case of Peru, they represent 99.5%. A worrying fact is whether these companies use well-defined processes for the development of their products; For this case, the international standardization organization constituted ISO / IEC 29110, which is a set of standards and technical reports that has been developed for very small entities (VSE - Very Small Entities). A VSE is defined as an entity (companies, organizations, departments or projects) that has at most 25 people. Most software SMEs fall into the VSE category. The industry recognizes the value of SMEs in contributing products and services. In this article we are going to make known about this rule and how it contributes to the different aspects such as innovation, technology, social and spiritual aspects.

Abstract

Software development is an activity that has become important in various sectors. According to a report by the OECD, most international companies are medium and small. In the case of Peru represented 99.5%. A disturbing fact is if these companies use well-defined processes for product development, for this case, the international standards organization constituted the ISO / IEC 29110 is a set of standards and technical reports has been developed for very small entities (VSE - Very Small Entities). A VSE is defined as an entity (enterprises, organizations, departments or projects) having at most 25 people. Most SMEs belong to the VSE software category. The industry recognizes the value of PYME in the contribution of products and services. we will disclose this standard and how it contributes to different areas such as innovation, technology, social and spiritual aspect.

1. Background

ISO 29110 is a standard originally intended for Mexican software companies. From the Software Process Model (MoProSoft), AMCIS aimed to improve the country's industry and its product was so good that it soon became a national standard and was later chosen as the basis of the international model for the development of software.

Evidence of the need to establish improvement models for SMEs, ISO created the SC7-WG24 working group, whose objective is to ensure that its software process standards (or adaptations of these) can be applied to small and medium-sized software development companies.

In a broad context, ISO / IEC 29110 has been developed to improve the quality of the software product and / or service, and to improve the performance of the organization. ISO / IEC 29110 supports the use of different life cycles such as: waterfall, iterative, incremental, evolutionary or agile.

2. Development of the theme

ISO / IEC 29110 is a set of standards and technical reports that has been developed for Very Small Entities (VSE). A VSE is defined as an entity (companies, organizations, departments or projects) that has less than 25 persons.

The audience-driven set of ISO / IEC 29110 documents has been developed to improve the quality of products and / or quality of services and the performance of processes.

ISO / IEC 29110-1 defines the business terms common to the set of documents of the PO (Small Organizations) profile. It introduces the concepts of process, life cycle and standardization. It also presents the characteristics and requirements of a PO clarifies the foundations for the profiles, documents, standards and guides of a specific PO.

ISO / IEC 29110-2 introduces the concepts for the standardized Software engineering profile for POs and defines common terms for the set of PO profile documents. It specifies the common elements for all standard profiles (Structure, conformity, evaluation) and introduces the taxonomy (catalog) of the ISO / IEC 29110 profiles.

ISO / IEC 29110-3 defines the guidelines and conformance requirements of the process assessment, necessary to achieve the purpose of the defined OP profiles. It also contains information that may be useful to developers of evaluation methods and tools. It is aimed at people who are not directly related to the evaluation process.

For all organizations, but particularly for micro-enterprises, international certifications can increase credibility, competitiveness, and access to national and international markets.

For microenterprises, a certification process must be simple, short and inexpensive, and have international credibility. Brazil and Thailand lead the development of ISO / IEC 29110 certification processes to meet the needs of the micro-business environment.

The profiles are defined for the purpose of packaging references to and / or parts of other documents in a formal way, in order to adapt them to the needs and characteristics of the VSEs. Preparing a profile involves producing two types of documents:

Framework and taxonomy (TR29110-2): Specifies the elements common to all profiles (structure, conformity, evaluation) and introduces the taxonomy (catalog) of ISO / IEC 29110 profiles.

Profile Specifications (TR29110-4): Provides the final composition of a profile, normative links to the normative subset of standards used in the profile, and informative links (references) to “input” documents.

For each profile there is a document of this type. An example of a profile specification is document 29110-4.1 (Specification - Basic Profile).

Its objective is to define a software development and project management guide, adapted to the needs of VSEs, for a subset of ISO / IEC 12207 processes.

Next we will show the structure of ISO 29110:

ISO 29110

3. Contributions

ISO 29110 is a standard designed for SMEs that, when certified, opens opportunities for export accredited by it.

ISO 29110 is a standard created for SMEs dedicated to software development, based on best practices, this standard will allow to develop appropriate light projects using the Basic Profile, thus increasing the chances of success based on cost, time and scope, helping to companies to perceive and adapt to technological changes.

The implementation of this standard increases competitiveness and optimization to develop a software project, with greater control at each stage. Higher software quality improves the image of the company. Less risk in development.

The companies that implement it stand out from their competitors, for the benefit of their customers.

(Romans 13: 1-7) Let everyone submit to superior authorities, because there is no authority except from God and those that exist have been established by God. The implementation of this norm helps the evidence to POs and people in general that it is a duty to submit and comply with the regulations that the state proposes to the population.

4. Conclusions

This standard can be the solution to a multitude of small companies, since its purpose is, as previously stated, to make current software engineering standards more accessible to these types of companies, adapting them to their size and business needs., which is important for their survival in the markets and to achieve competitiveness, facing problems such as the growing globalization of markets and the technological changes that are taking place.
