Options if you want to quit your job and dedicate yourself to what you like

Would you like to quit your job and dedicate yourself to what you really like? Many overwhelmed people write to me because that is exactly what they want to do and they don't know how. People who are unhappy in their work and who feel frustrated and blocked because they do not see a viable alternative. Does it happen to you too?

What I find especially interesting in these cases is that there are many people who only see one option, black or white, or I continue as I am or I leave everything and do what I like and, of course, when faced with that dilemma they are blocked, normal. However, the reality can be very different and that is one of the things that I like to do the most with my clients, to make them see the different options that they have in front of them and that sometimes, due to your stress or blockage, you are not able to see.

What are those options? Of course it depends on each case, but I have five recommendations for you.

1. Don't quit your job yet

You don't have to be so radical, unless you have a good economic mattress that allows you to live stress-free for at least a year. Quitting your job and starting from scratch can put a lot of stress on you and affect you in many ways. It is advisable to combine both things, at least at the beginning, and if you still cannot even combine because you start from scratch and you don't like your work either, change your perspective and consider it a means to achieve what you really want. What can you take advantage of your current situation? Maybe you can start making contacts, or save to have that economic mattress that allows you in the future to dedicate yourself to what you like, or pay the bills and have time to practice. What can you take advantage of now?

2. Be patient

This is something very important and I have already said it more times: that you cannot do something now does not mean that you can never do it. We live in a time of immediacy in which everything has to be right now, and because it could not be yesterday. For some things it is fine, but for others it is not and this is one of those cases because you despair and you think that you are not worth it and that your life has no meaning and it is not that.

There is a time for everything, sometimes you don't have to wait long and sometimes yes, there are things that take time. That they tell someone who wants to be a doctor or scientist, it takes many years of study and training, so it is not possible to pretend to build Rome today either.

The point is not to give up. If you really want to dedicate yourself to that, analyze your current situation and make a plan, that will make you regain motivation and that you can decide what steps to take to get closer to your goal. Plus, you don't have to sit idly by in the meantime.

3. Start doing something

This is one of the mistakes I see the most, standing idly by. Either all or nothing. You can start right now even with something small, reading a book, taking a course, finding out how to live on what you like, whatever it is that means progress. You can also start doing what you like as a hobby, even if you don't want it to be a hobby, but better that to start than nothing. That will keep you focused, energize you, and who knows what opportunities it will bring you.

4. Don't wait for someone to knock on your door

Go ahead, search, ask, insist (politely and with limits, of course). Waiting for them to call you goes nowhere. It does not mean that you are going to find something right now, but it will increase your chances, that is clear. And if you don't know where, ask, search. Don't hide behind the buts and the "I don't know how", remember well: "whoever wants to, can"; and also "who wants something, something costs him."

5. Listen to what they ask you

The number of times I have heard clients or readers say that their friends or acquaintances ask them to do what they are so good at and they… turn a deaf ear! You have to take advantage of opportunities and listen to your potential customers. If everyone asks you to give them a massage and they try to pay you, don't go and make excuses or don't charge. If they ask for your services, give them to them!

It's obvious but a lot of people don't and I hope you're not one of them. If you want to be a coach, practice and then get paid, if you are a nutritionist the same. Whatever it is you want to dedicate yourself to, do it first, and second, don't underestimate your time, effort and talent and get paid for it. And if you don't, make it a well thought out, strategic decision; if not, get going and start making changes.

So now you know, apply these recommendations and you will start to see progress, which is what really matters as you get closer to your goal.

Where are you going to start?
