Summary

Many of the companies do not give the importance of the use of technology, because at present it is essential for their development, today they are required to compete in the electronic market and thus have an adequate information system to your needs and size of the company, to have greater productivity and competitiveness, thus creating a competitive advantage.

introduction

The aim of this essay is to make known the situation in which the primes find themselves as they do not have information technology for SMEs in. Within what is possible, I try to answer myself certain doubts that I had on the subject and in the research, some of the questions that helped me to develop this analysis are: What are the barriers to the use of information technologies?, What are the benefits obtained with the use of information technologies?

In an article. He indicated that the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) sector will be of special attention during 2014, because they are "the heart of the economy", but they lack financing and greater capacity, we can achieve a modernization of Mexico through SMEs.

II. Background

Various studies have pointed out the possibility of selling and charging through the Internet, as well as the integration of production chains through computer applications and the Internet since the early 1990s, constitute clear opportunities for SMEs to change some of their technological, organizational and administrative deficiencies (Al-Qirim, July, 2003).

However, very little adoption of the ICT adoption applications is observed by SMEs, both in poor and richer countries (Lefebvre and Lefebvre, 1996).

III. Development

Due to the difficult changes that SMEs have faced in the market in recent years with the implementation of information technology that helps them to manage data, with the aim of offering improvements in decision-making in companies.

Technologies today are of great importance for the development of SMEs in order to improve their productivity and thus be able to be competitive, the implementation of these information systems in a company helps to provide a great possibility to obtain great advantages, and thus little by little to increase the capacity of the organization and even create a new business strategy.

However, the benefits it offers and the cost of implementation and maintenance of the implemented technology must be taken into account, since IT contributes to better information management, and there are also very effective tools that increase and help improve the external communication, thus having better communication between new and existing clients.

There are certain barriers in the use of information technologies

The 4 main barriers that over the years have prevented SMEs from achieving their own change, innovation and modernization:

  • Resistance to change Requirements definition Hardware and software Dependence on technology providers

Resistance to change includes different aspects, such as: The fear of the use of some technology by the company and its collaborators, fear of making mistakes in the use of new technology, leaving old practices to incorporate new ones.

The poor definition of the requirements of the application to be implemented, be it specific or standard. These are integrated: the lack of commitment of those involved, the scarce coordination between the hierarchical levels of the company and the lack of experience in development.

The hardware and software where companies often do not have efficient technical support to carry out basic activities. (Rodríguez, June 19, 2011).

Benefits from the use of ICT

  • Reducing costs and improving the efficiency of operations: Replacing time-consuming manual processes and reducing the need to mobilize to perform procedures or search for information Generating additional income: Using your website to sell your products and services Reaching new markets and customers: Using the Internet to Expand your clientele at low cost, both in the national and international markets Making it easier for people to do business with you –and you with them-: Developing a website that makes it easy to contact your clients, suppliers, members, visitors, distributors or associates. (Solórzano, 2002).

IV. Conclusions

Information technologies within SMEs play a very important role. That allow an efficient and direct interaction with the supplier, and offering an improvement for the company in its internal processes and thus being able to know its different clients and the preferences of each one of them.

Although not all SMEs that have not incorporated the use and benefits offered by information technologies for market positioning, and those that already have these technologies are those that have a competitive advantage.

Despite the fact that in Mexico there is a great shortage of obtaining technology and thus improving its infrastructure, in order to have a large share in the market and in the same way to be able to compete nationally and even internationally and thus be able to make a change and demonstrate that SMEs are not the main ones to fail when entering the market.
