A new definition of failure and success

"The difference between greatness and mediocrity is often how a person views his mistakes." Nelson Boswell.

Ultimately, how we approach and perceive the situations that life presents us will determine our way of reacting.

"One of the biggest problems people have with failure is that they hastily judge isolated situations in their life and classify them as failure (Maxwell 2008)."

We are too hard on ourselves, we are very subjective in judging ourselves. We can have an arsenal of skills and potential, and if despite this we cannot get ahead, it is very likely that it is because we have not learned to modify certain actions (maneuvers) that solve problems or failures that we had. Thus cyclically we undertake another project and by chance of fate we fail again and give up, and we believe that we are not intelligent, that we do not have the capacity, that we are the worst among other qualifications.

However, we do not realize that there were isolated failures in the project process and we did not correct them adequately, but it does not mean that we are failures because of it.

It is important to learn to identify isolated faults within a process that, by solving them, will allow our project to continue to run well.

I am going to give an example of a woman who is starting to sell second-rate items in a street market in Mexico.

Let's suppose that the first day she got there, she arrived and all the other tiangueros were already settled, so she had to stand on the banks. She had a good product, however she sold the modest amount of 30 pesos, less the 15 Mexican pesos that they charged her for her space, she had only 15 pesos left for sale.

The typical person who thinks unsuccessfully would say “this is not for me, this is not a business, how could it occur to me to invest what little I had in this and it did not work for me, I saw that the other positions did very well, for sure I'm salty, I need to get a clean one ”.

A person who sees the positive side of failure would say “it is very likely that I obtained such a terrible result since I arrived late, and perhaps the good places are those in the middle, those that are in the pure center or heart of the tianguis, notice that they take tables where to place products, they clean and arrange them presentably, give good prices, customers pass by and shout their products motivating them to buy, take your awning, etc., etc., then for the next time I come, I will arrive earlier and I will come more prepared, I will try again competitively in a different way ”.

When one fails, it is because he did certain actions that produced a result, but it is not that the person is a failure.
