12 Tips to move from dependency to inter

Table of contents:

Based on a true story

A much more direct title to call this note could have been: "Remember this before jumping into the pool / leaving your current job / burning the ships / etc.". But nothing further: as a seeker of the greatest individual and collective potential, it is not a matter of moving from one place to another, but of doing it intelligently. Because ultimately you will be taking yourself wherever you go. What I propose is that you think about how you can raise your contribution, effectiveness and performance, wherever you are. Because the problem is not the dependency relationship, but finding the greatest value for interdependence…

Recently a former colleague from Human Resources asked me 'how had I done', 'how was' that jump, which involved going from a dependency relationship to being 'your own boss'.

Knowing that I like to write, he told me: 'no, don't tell me', write it down. And here I am. So my Friend, this is for you and for all those who have the conviction that their Contribution in this Trip can be done from different areas, none better or worse, only more or less functional to our Objectives. If you feel that it is your time and want to know where to start, perhaps these 12 tips can help you from someone who 'took the leap' and is totally proud and satisfied to have done it, although learning every minute.

Ok, get ready, here we go (by the way, I'm not interested in knowing your current position, your family composition, your history of successes or failures or any other type of anchor - least of all your age!) - are we here? Let's talk about your present, your future and how you will remember your past. I read on one side that…

«… there is a formula to measure the success of a person: he said it is the sum of:

Ok, grab a pencil and paper because you might need them. The 12 suggestions go:

1. Thank you for what you have received so far, but connect with yourself (forget about certain myths); Take care of this Intent that has arisen (for something it is) and Pursue your objectives, but Design your strategy intelligently -> start with these principles because you are going to have to live the life of a leader, in this case, you will be a leader of yourself. In other words, from the outset, you will already have the same job or more than your current job, because you will be responsible for giving substance to your present, so that your future takes shape. What? 'Outside' you work more? You can bet yes! At least the first few years, until the wheel starts turning, occasionally, on autopilot. And with certain campaigns, even faster. That is, if your current driver - and what makes you want to quit your current job - is your imbalance between personal life / work… think about it. Because it can't, it shouldn't be just that.Better do it for some other reason, logical or emotional, always guided by the search for meaning. Something that will rebuild your strength, motivation and inspiration if you eventually doubt your decision in the future.

On the other hand, to be completely fair, I also tell you that from 'outside' you could win in the 'sum of fundamental moments' (well, that's what life is about), those moments that today you cannot manage 100% and you have to resign yourself to losing them - or devising strategies - to be able to enjoy them.

I connect, and what should I find?

When you connect with yourself on the frequency that best makes you feel and vibrate - and you can pass it on to the rest - you will find what you really want to do. Still don't know? Do you live the paradox in which you like your work (although not the context, boss, mission of the company or group) and that is why you want to leave? Or are you happy with your team and your boss (you wouldn't leave if it were for them) but you don't directly like what you do, for not being part of your strengths or what you have studied? In practical terms, and to start thinking about what you could do out there, I ask you: what are you excited about reading normally? What excites you? What do you like to spend time on? What are you so passionate about that you would be ashamed to be paid to do? This part is essential: you have to find a niche to focus on.From all to all… there are everywhere. I give you a hint: if there is something that people lack - and they are willing to pay whatever it takes to get more - it is Time. How obviously they can't buy more, no matter how much money they have, what they have chosen to do is delegate to other things that take time and, perhaps, they don't like doing so much anymore - read driving, download information from the internet, mediate between two conflicting parties, doing paperwork, writing articles, solving basic or structural issues of the home, walking their pets, connecting buyers and sellers, organizing a wedding, understanding the most essential of a newspaper or generating innovations and feasible ideas to implement, that generate income to their organizations. Ultimately, they need expert people to do it for them. And there you will enter. In my case, for example,I 'entered' in that space where companies require someone to help their managers and teams to improve their performance and results. But wasn't that already a task for your bosses? You'll tell me. Yes, but bosses are so busy doing other things that this aspect of leadership, at least in large part, is delegated. And there I 'go in', to enhance skills, to share knowledge, to coach the Manager. In short, all these years, where you are and where you were, gave you the opportunity to shape your strengths. Time to name them. Because I want you to pivot on them. But bosses are so busy doing other things that this aspect of leadership, at least in large part, is delegated. And there I 'go in', to enhance skills, to share knowledge, to coach the Manager. In short, all these years, where you are and where you were, gave you the opportunity to shape your strengths. And there I 'go in', to enhance skills, to share knowledge, to coach the Manager. In short, all these years, where you are and where you were, gave you the opportunity to shape your strengths. Time to name them. Because I want you to pivot on them.

What I want to make clear to you in this first point, is that there are two things you should keep in mind:

  1. what you would like to be doing the next 10 years and those strengths of yours that would best serve that purpose. Then we will think about how to do so that, what you like to do, you can monetize it at an income level equal to or greater than the current one. (When you finish reading this article, you can download my e-book 1 to read more about how to manage time, changes, beliefs, influence and habits (look at the part that says' My 3 Websites: http: / /aledelobelle.wordpress.com/).

2. Take advantage of summer (and winter and autumn and spring…) to make contacts (networking) -> Think about networks. Think of communities of people who need each other to achieve something greater. Think that there is someone, somewhere, who would need to know / have / do what you do or have. And that he would pay to achieve it, to obtain it. Not paying attention to this premise will automatically lead you (and in the next few days) to read, listen or talk to someone who satisfied their need with something you could have done…. maybe better. And it won't be enough to say 'I already knew it'! Nor does this mean that you should be thinking only of your networks and see each person as a potential partner or client, but be alert, with more radars than usual.

Comment on what you do - and / or would like to do - and stay tuned for feedback. Ah, are you afraid of being 'robbed' of an idea that occurred to you? My friend, think abundantly, not lack. Where you got that idea from, you can get more, you can nurture and improve it tenfold. However, so as not to be naive or naive, tell your story in beta, not the entire development.

Normally, whoever takes your idea only takes one concept, very good per se, but soon it will be discarded, because it will not produce internally what you generate (for example, a new Black & Decker grinder in my hands would be so useless like a GPS without the map of the city in which I travel, while in the hands of another could be highly useful!). Then speak and, above all, listen to yourself. I created my 2020 Leadership Model and, at the beginning, it was one more model, until someone really liked the message and wanted to expand it: "This works", I said to myself, and I continued to improve it, making it more useful, simpler, more upright, more connected, more effective, more… etc, etc. But that was accomplished by sharing the Idea. The 'cool idea' test says that if someone wants to hear more of your idea, they want to share it and they want to improve it,It is a good idea.

Something else: the point is not to have an idea, but to be able to implement it. There the obstacles and the lack of strategic execution appear. This is where you will gain several bodies of advantage, if you have been developing leadership muscles. And leadership and interdependence, which I told you about at the beginning, have a lot in common. And if for some reason your muscles are a bit lacking in fiber, I suggest the following: before you think about stepping aside (well, outside), start practicing this competition in your current job. So, start by delivering your reports before the deadline, start with the selection of members for your team, empower each of the current collaborators in your area, negotiate something for yourself and / or something for someone else (an increase, a license day, a soft migration for your notebook, something..),make the typical team meeting more effective… If you do, you will develop these leadership skills, but a safe, secure environment. It is incredible what happens when you do it, because you become more efficient, more effective, which is visible (there is always someone in the companies who is watching you). Even if you are not looking for it, perhaps from this new competition that you have put into action, they will offer you promotions and / or transfers - what some will call 'luck'. And there you will have already entered a win-win game. And, as I have seen more than once during my career in multinationals, that reality that one creates is so similar to oneself, it has so much profile of personal footprint, that… you don't want to leave anymore!safe. Remember? "NOTHING changes, I change, EVERYTHING changes." That's how it works. Wouldn't you stay in your current job if you knew that you were leaving your job description every day, more expanded than you found it? Wouldn't you be left if you were told that you would be in charge of a project that would put at your disposal the capacities and resources so that you could work in a network, with the mind of an 'intrapreneur'? Well, earn that achievement, learn from the experience, and return the favor, exponentiating the results. At the end of the day you will feel that you are stronger, where you are or that your muscles are warming up for the next step…

3. Update yourself on the topic of social networks (in the process you will understand your children, nephews or future partners)-> If you think that this of the social networks is something that will happen, so that we return to the Mail, to the Newspaper, to the printed Brochure, to…, possibly you are wrong. There may have been another way of doing things before - and to some extent more… (“put your own adjective here”), but we are in the 21st century and we must begin to unlearn quickly to make room for new technological knowledge. And I say 'new' because really this 2.0 world is new, for more people than you think. An example? You can meet someone from Sweden on Tumblr and continue your relationship with this person directly - or via affinity group - at What'sApp. Thus, as you are interested in his profile, you could start following him on Twitter and retweet some of his messages, which will appear later on your Facebook. So close,They agree to follow the conversation in a more personal way on Skype, from where they will naturally link you to a personal video that was uploaded to YouTube from their Smartphone and, where, just by following a link, they will connect you to their Blog, where you can subscribe and, for Of course, you can also read it from your Ipad! If any of this sounds strange to you, it's normal. I am also learning it and, more importantly, trying to make it functional to my goals. If you simplify and accelerate, welcome. Be prepared for that. Don't think it's too late for that, it's just beginning. But it starts now.If any of this sounds strange to you, it's normal. Don't think it's too late for that, it's just beginning. But it starts now.

4. Check your online presence and your database (someone's card is a relic if you don't have it dumped in your Gmail or another program)-> the other day a friend asked me to bring you a brochure of what my company was doing. To his surprise, I sent him a list of various links, which referred him to various web-pages he had created for me. And it was enough. My presence on the web says what I want it to say. So I ask you to control what Mr. Google says about you, if someone types your name. I mean, do it yourself now! You can tell me that doing so includes some articles that you wrote a while ago and it is very good. But… what about those photos where you appear tagged on Facebook? Does it make the image you want to project of yourself and your future business? I had a great time the first of the year, but none of those photos will be able to be seen by you on the net -and not because nobody uploads them, but because I am a strict guardian of the 'labels' that others put on.Something can always escape, but try to make it as little as possible.

5. Add your CV and profile on Linkedin (+200 million professionals cannot be wasting time, don't you think?)-> I could write a whole manual with this point, but I'll go to the basics. Could you tell me 'I'm already on Facebook, what's the difference with LinkedIn? I answer you: in FB you have friends, in LKD contacts. In FB you would greet them with a kiss and a hug, in LKD you would shake their hand. At FB you invite them to eat a barbecue, at LKD you coordinate a business meeting or service proposal. Am I clear? Unless you want to quit your current job to coordinate Saturday meetings, get moving at LKD. Build your profile there then and do not stop until you complete 100% of what is requested there (personal data, but also recommendations and presence in some groups). LKD has such a strong connection to Google that you will quickly appear in the top positions. And since it is a network - and you have the possibility to do business and promote your products from there - it is not very practical to ask someone to connect with you and that person cannot see who you are, what you do and why they would have to accept your service proposals. The secret? First toast - something of high value - then ask.

6. Surround yourself with people who help you grow (there aren't that many, so search and follow them) -> "the speed of your business, out here, will accelerate proportionally to the quality of people you surround yourself with and connect with". It was not my idea to put it as a 'beginning', but it turned out that way. And it's true, at least from my story. Here you cannot think with the same mindset with which you do it in your current job. Neither better nor worse, different. Surrounding yourself with positive, initiative, disruptive and balanced people charges you with energy and, in itself, that is already an excellent reason to do so. Two hours having a coffee at Starbucks with someone like that is worth the investment in time, because it will have helped you shape an idea, make a decision or make that call that you were having trouble making. Those people who make you grow can take the form of mentors, partners or colleagues. It can be your partner too, consider it, why not. Whoever it is, you are not - and nobody is - someone who can do everything very well and at the same time. If you learned to delegate in your current job, that will work for you. If you never worked as a team and don't trust others much, you will surely go slower. Remember that you end up looking like the people you hang out with…

7. Check out these pages of business, management and help the entrepreneur in you (at least they serve me or have served)-> Accessing high quality information is no longer a problem. You can read the same thing they read at Harvard. You can see the same videos that are shown at MIT or Fortune 500 companies. But you have to know where they are. Many of those pages are ready to be clicked from my BLOG, go there - I have already loaded them - and start to get familiar with it (aledelobelle.wordpress.com). You can see what I read and what helps me make presentations. Keep in 'favorites' everything you consider that, from now on, could serve you. Watch videos on Youtube and build your own preference channel there. Buy yourself a notebook to write only concepts, ideas and messages that serve you and would have 'resonated' in your mind. You must become an expert in yours. But expert is not only the one who knows a lot,but the one who can simplify all that to make it understandable, digestible for ordinary mortals. That is what you will monetize when you are out. I will give you a news: if you are in the Human Resources area, Human Capital Media launches a TV channel, and the first program will be: "Tailor-Made Talent: Acquisition's New Era," will be on air on Wednesday 27 February 2013. It will be focused on the cyclical process of recruiting, selecting, evaluating and defining candidates, as well as techniques to strengthen their commitment. You see? 8. Put your English into operation (or Portuguese, but expand your borders, you will need it)-> The language of the body, the language of emotions, the technological language and a foreign language, must be part of your personal mastery. English continues to position you internationally - and why couldn't that be your market? -, for the simple fact that it is the common language between your language and that of… Koreans, or Hindus or Austrians, for example. You don't speak their language, they don't speak yours, but they both speak English. And there they are. And if your product or solution has global potential to be sold, the better you start to feel more secure, this way you can promote the business, up front. Have shame? You are neither the worst nor the best, take it for granted, and that is something. Work on the topic of limiting beliefs with e-book 1 and start replacing them with new ones.Out here powerful beliefs will be needed, nothing to limit you. The best belief you can have is that you can overcome your limiting beliefs by just asking yourself. ' You could also read the white paper I wrote recently, 'Happy New Ebook - 22 questions…: http://aledelobelle.wordpress.com/whitepapers/happy-new-ebook/), which works on that aspect of your skills. No one can be sure if we will win, but the important thing is to be part of those Olympics.

9. Think (and decide) ways to earn hours a day (every minute counts from now on!)-> I always say that energy must be worked, because it is several times more elastic than time. The clock has 24 hours immovable. Your energy shoots up and in one hour you can do what others do in five… Or what you yourself can do in a week, with other levels of motivation and passion. You understand me? Out here you are a product of your time, of the use you make of it. So, taking care of personal energy and mental calm, so that each minute is worth ten, is one of the logistical tasks that you will have out here. In your current job, perhaps you have also learned it, because they evaluate you by results, not by presence. And that's good, you will take advantage of it. But if you are used to '9 to 5', you will have to manage your day in a new way. Keeping time and negotiating are two key competencies out here, so if you can, start practicing them more thoroughly where you are today.

10. Take care of your body (you will need energy to take care of your own image)-> Where do you think you get the energy you need to optimize your time? What you eat, what you rest and what you exercise. Renew your body and try to find a better version of it. I do it because I know that the dynamics of an intensive five-day course requires high physical fitness (beyond the emotional and attitudinal). Nothing worse for an assistant than to see a tired, dejected instructor, without reflexes for the action and the mobilization of the group. Beyond that, training the body the way you want - but with precise regularity - helps you disconnect, reflect and improve for the next. Compare this: going unnoticed at a work meeting, you could bear it, in fact, it has all happened to us (sitting for two hours, making an interested face while thinking about something else). But forget about being anonymous in meetings where you are presenting your services: you would be taking the highway that leads to failure, and you cannot afford that. In fact, one of the primary competencies required is that which has to do with being 'present'. If today you have your BB attached to your hand, out here you will have no choice but to leave it on the table, at least while listening to your customers. You should be 'multitasking' only until the moment you are sitting with your client!Out here you will have no choice but to leave it on the table, at least while you listen to your customers. You should be 'multitasking' only until the moment you are sitting with your client!

11. Check your finances, cards and expenses (also each peso counts, you will lose the transfer of the salary to your Savings Bank)-> not only do you have to know how to make money but you also have to know how to take care of it, manage it. If you're not the best at it, surround yourself with someone who does. You could get dizzy with closing a thousand-dollar deal - and believing that's normal - and start spending more than you bargained for. The objective is to go several months ahead (knowing how much your monthly expenses amount, multiply them by 3) and save that sum, to live 3 months without troubles if things take time to close. Then 5, then 7… There are months that are less active than others. But you have to spend at least a whole year to find out. If you can count on an indemnity that will cover you for a time, the better. Nor are you going to wait for that moment to make the decision. To delve further into this point, read Robert Kiyosaki's book: “Before Quitting Your Job”,You could take some interesting ideas for your financial control.

12. Start reading about 'personal branding' and how to sell / position yourself(It is something you did not use to do, because 'they already knew you': now - and for a little while - you will be a perfect, great… unknown!) -> something important also to accelerate your results out here. While nothing you can read can be compared to being trustworthy, meaning upright and with good intentions, marketing techniques and other strategic principles can help you. For example, writing an ebook is not in itself the way to get rich, but I have won contracts for proving that I have written them. I explain? Perception is reality. Between selecting an instructor who has written something and another who has not written anything yet, the client does not think about it. Between selecting someone who has a complete profile on LinkedIn and another who does not know who she is… guess what. And so on. Many authors speak on this subject.Do not stop looking what it is about.

Final strength message:

I hope these 12 tips have left you thinking. And that you can appeal to your intuitive intelligence to see which ones serve you best. And that you renew your conviction to do much more where you are, or that you decide to take another path. If you are in doubt whether to advance or not, whether to accept the challenge or not, it is a good start. It all starts with a small-big feeling of internal incongruity. And also remember that your main strength, out here, will be, paradoxically, your flexibility. To the point that, if you decide that you are more comfortable, safer, and more confident within a company, you can return to the 'dependency relationship' without having to give many explanations to anyone. But with the tranquility and satisfaction of having checked another way. It will have been a great experience.

I only leave you one question to say goodbye:

Are you doing, right now, what you are really passionate about?

Watch this Video:

Ps: The teacher says:

The Personal Legend is not as simple as it seems. On the contrary, it can be a dangerous activity. When we want something, we launch powerful energies, and we can no longer hide the true meaning of our life.

When we want something, we choose the price we are going to pay.

Following a dream comes at a price. It can demand that we abandon old habits, it can make us go through difficulties, have disappointments, etc.

But, however high that price may be, it is never as high as the one paid by the one who did not live his Legend

Personal. Because these one day will look back, they will see everything they did and they will hear their own hearts say: "I have wasted my life." Believe me, this is one of the worst phrases anyone can hear.

MAKTUB. Paulo Coelho.

A hug and see you soon.
