3 Ideas that hinder the growth of your business or project

Whether you are about to start something on your own or if you have already started and do not have the results you want, there are three things that may be hindering the growth of your business (and from experience I say this). It notes:

1. Commit to something and not listen to the experts

As an entrepreneur it is important to be persistent, yes, fundamental; but it is also important not to confuse perseverance with stubbornness. Sometimes you insist on a certain type of business or client and, although the evidence shows the contrary, although the experts say the opposite, you insist on doing what you want, deaf and you hit the wall.

With this I am not saying that you do not do what you like or that you only do what others say, but rather that within your preferences you are flexible and willing to learn from those who are already successful. This happened to me at the beginning of my business, I insisted on doing things in a certain way and, although two marketing advisers warned me against it, I kept going and, of course, did not achieve much. Fortunately, I committed to one of my coaches to try for a while and if it did not work to change, if not, to know where I would be now. Actually that's a good idea, if there is something you don't want to give up for anything, do it for a certain period of time giving 100% and if it doesn't work, something else. This is something that costs, especially when you hold on to something a lot or have been for a while and the idea of changing everything makes you lazy and scared, but it's worth it. They are called experts for something.

2. Not being aware of what generates the most benefits for you

This seems obvious, but it is not, especially if you offer different things in your business. Stop by every so often to think about what makes you the most profit and focus on that, especially if you still don't have financial stability. What do you sell more, coaching packages or workshops? Ebooks or talks? Sometimes you insist on adding new things to your business (what in English is known as “the shiny object syndrome”, the bright object syndrome or in more traditional Spanish “ass I see, I want ass”:) and scatter your attention instead of focusing on what works best.

This reminds me of the “Tabatha, I need you” program, in which they hire the aforementioned Tabatha to help businesses that are not doing well. In one particular case they were determined to sell frozen yogurt of different types and apart from that they offered cafeteria service. The point is that, in the first place, the yogurt was very bad and almost did not sell; but the owner was stoned, it was her illusion (case 1). They had not stopped to think about what they sold the most and it turns out that it was coffee, which was very good. After doing a small market analysis offering samples of coffee and yogurt (another essential point, market study), they changed the business, eliminated the yogurt, focused on coffee and companions, and the business took a 180º turn. Perfect example of stubbornness, ignorance of what generates benefits and the effect of hiring an expert who sees what you do not see.

Especially if you are starting, focus on what you earn the most and when you have stability, expand the services. This you can apply to everything, do not try to join every fashion that comes out and spend a month trying Twitter, then go to videos, then to… In this it is very easy to fall, you compare yourself to others and as those others offer many things you too You want, but you forget that those others are a few years ahead of you and that it works better to be consistent, focus on what gives you the most benefits and move forward little by little.

3. Adapt to some strategies and do not change anything

When you've been around for a while, there are certain things you do well and they become automatic. So automatic, that what was once a challenge for you is now a simple routine and you settle in, and how it seems to work, because you stay there, in your famous comfort zone. If you want your business to continue growing, expand that comfort zone and, when you have something mastered, try other things. This way you will avoid getting stuck both on a personal level, because what you do is no longer a challenge, but on a professional level in which your earnings stagnate. A business is something alive, it grows, it changes and you have to do it with it. That does not mean that you have to be changing something every month, you decide the pace, but if you want your business to grow you will have to do new things.

In summary, and according to my experience, if you have just started and you still do not have the results you want, focus on what benefits you will get until economic is not a problem and you can think of other things. Forget about comparisons, and patience, you are still sown and cannot be harvested before sowing.

And if you are in a more advanced stage and would like to grow, think about how to make your business more efficient and what you can add to increase your profits. In this case, you are already collecting fruits and you can stay as you are, or plant in other fields and increase the harvest. And you know, if you want quick results, work with someone who is already where you want to be, there is no better way to get where you want.

Which one affects you the most?
