Emotional intelligence in educational management

Introduction

Modern societies live around intelligence, parents yearn to educate intelligent, professional children, and from this angle a whole world of alternatives opens up regarding intelligence; artificial intelligence revolutionizes computing and technology, attributing a quality jealously reserved to the human species, but currently attributed to inanimate objects. The times in which we live need more intelligence every day, the ability to solve difficult mathematical equations is no longer very useful, that is not enough, now you need to be and appear emotionally intelligent. Sometimes it is more useful to know how to shut up in front of a person who is out of control and not give them a host of reasons to make them see that they are wrongand also knowing how to direct those emotions without repressing them, avoiding generating anguish and subsequent repression. Research in the field of emotional intelligence has led researchers to carry out neurological studies to find scientific answers to the questions that are being posed today; Of these, the most interesting question could be, what is it that differentiates successful men and women from those who are not? What if really smart men and women with high IQs don't achieve the success expected and predicted by their parents and teachers who watched them grow into adulthood?Research in the field of emotional intelligence has led researchers to carry out neurological studies to find scientific answers to the questions that are being posed today; Of these, the most interesting question could be, what is it that differentiates successful men and women from those who are not? Difficult times for those who decide to look for a job and even being university professionals, find themselves with the surprise that the organization that recruits personnel needs a totally different psychological profile from the one they have, thus we find in today's newspapers advertisements with These requirements: Qualified personnel are needed, with availability, initiative, teamwork capacity, good interpersonal relationships, adaptation to change, positive influence and leadership, conflict management, effective and efficient communication, in short, to mention some of them.

Faced with this profile, people who are qualified but not sure of their abilities will not insist on showing up for an interview, let alone send their resume, it is the most subtle way of selecting personnel, pointing to those qualities that are not present in all human beings. Some time ago studies were carried out that tried to find a biological response to aggressiveness, for this, those criminals who did not show any regret about the facts of their authorship were subjected to analysis, the result was clarifying, most of those individuals presented in a CT scan. (computerized axial tomography) much of their brain mass destroyed, which influenced their emotions and the ability to feel empathy for others, so they committed their crimes with the least regret, appearing cold to their victims. Some of these cruel acts travel the world and appear to our eyes as horrendous, incredible and unhuman, but in reality they are committed by people, many of them surely with a normal and sometimes high IQ. The work carried out in the area of emotional intelligence aims to divide intelligence, recognized by all as that which allows us to develop intellectually effectively in some task that involves intellectual abilities of that intelligence related to the management of emotions: self-esteem, self-confidence himself, sense of humor, tolerance for failure among others, when both must act on a person simultaneously, of course surely in some individuals one of them is glimpsed over the other,But that does not mean that this individual lacks the qualities that distinguish us as people.

We find emotional intelligence since ancient times valued as a quality in the human being, obviously not with this term, but let's remember the life of the Greeks, they valued wisdom above all things, in fact the most recognized sages of Hellas. they were philosophers, prudent, patient, wise, tolerant people. Wisdom in other words, comes to be what we currently know as emotional intelligence, in the paragraph that we read below we visualize traits of an emotionally intelligent person: “Anyone can get furious….. that's easy. But, getting mad at the right person, at the right intensity, at the right time, for the right reason and in the right way…. that is not easy ”.- Aristotle, paragraph cited by Dr. Alexis Codina,"Introduction to Emotional Intelligence"… www.calidad.org.

From that point of view let us remember an episode in our life in which we lost control of a situation, surely after a few minutes, hours or perhaps days, we have regretted our actions, who have requested corresponding apologies asking in some way make amends for the error, they have set in motion a quality of emotionally intelligent people, the ability to recognize mistakes, who have not done so and have justified their actions by saying that they were totally attacked or in some way pushed to react like this, they will have to review some decalogue of those that are in fashion today to achieve success in your interpersonal relationships.

Emotional intelligence has been an obligatory subject in all labor sectors, this is because since D. Goleman published his Best Seller "Emotional Intelligence" in 1995, interest in the subject grew enormously, although this was not the first to worry about defining this area of intelligence, and since 1920 Thorndike defined what was related to the control of emotions. In organizations, we speak of intelligent organizations, collective minds, social learning, highlighting a basic quality of man: Being gregarious par excellence. Without going any further, recognized researchers in the area have classified intelligences, in the case of Howard Gadner, Professor at Harvard University, he classifies intelligences into 7 well-defined types: Linguistic Intelligence, Logical Intelligence, Musical,Visual, Kinesthetic, Interpersonal and Intrapersonal, the latter two related to Social Intelligence, the one that we will deal with below.

EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE IN EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT

PARTIAL WORK ADM 303-1:

Of the skills of a social nature, which are mentioned in the course, Influence, Communication, Conflict Management, Leadership, Catalysis of changes, Creation of links, Team Capabilities, Collaboration and Cooperation, I must point out the absence of any of them in the work environment where I work, in this way I can clearly identify that communication, not very efficient and effective on the part of managers mainly, has created a hostile environment exacerbated over the years and personal differences, and has not been solved by a bad Conflict management without diplomacy or empathy, this has greatly hindered the teaching work and the projection of the School. For this reason, below I present a practical model to follow, which I called COBRI, to work on this notoriously depressed area.

Action plan:

General Objective: "Carry out activities that allow solving social conflicts in the Educational Institution, managing concepts of Social Skills in the field of Emotional Intelligence in organizations."

Specific objectives:

a- Recognize social skills in successful organizations

b- Collect ideas through the participation of the teaching group.

c- Identify deficiencies in social skills in the educational center

d- Develop activities aimed at improving the work environment at the School.

Contents: Model: COBRI.

1- Knowing Social Skills in Successful Organizations: Effective and effective communication; capacity for teamwork; Creating links; Collaboration and Cooperation; Leadership, Effective conflict management; Positive influence. Analysis of the Ronald Allen case; Executive Director of Delta Airlines and Gerald Greinstein Director of Western Airlines and Bulington Northern Railways, case taken from www.emotional-intelligence.org, author Abel Cortese.

Analysis of the CIFRA merger case with Wal Mart Stores. Inc. USA, case taken from www.inteligencia-emocional.org (management of emotions in the work environment)

2- Brainstorming.: Technique that allows the collection of ideas and group participation, good to motivate, interest and involve in the subject in question.

3- Recognizing shortcomings of the Organization: group and plenary work.

4- Identifying with social skills: each group creates a small project that is started through activities developed in a period of three to six months.

Expected learning:

- At the end of the activities put into practice by the teachers, it is expected that each one understands the importance of working in a pleasant climate, where respect, tolerance, patience, and above all communication allow the development of the center Educational making it an exemplary organization.

VIABILITY OF THE PROPOSAL.

The viability of the proposal depends exclusively on the motivation that is generated prior to the work sessions, at the beginning of the activities and during their development, it is important to highlight the success of the plan if all the members participate in it at the same time It is necessary to hand over responsibilities to those people who have felt belittled at some point by the institution, by managers or by their co-workers. Working on Emotional Intelligence topics are especially delicate, although at present it is true that it is a fashionable topic, it would be prudent to prepare a small glossary given to each of the teachers in order to combine criteria and gather ideas with similar parameters.A work flow chart shown to those present through slides or transparencies will help to obtain a graphic vision of the Plan.
