Analysis of computer technology users

This theme arises from the research carried out by the author within the framework of his Master's thesis in Computer Engineering from the Universidad Santiago de Chile, whose focus is on the search for psychosocial profiles in the Chilean company. The article describes one of the conclusions emanating from the research, which states that users of information technologies are the result of the convergence of their psychological condition, their company and their relationship with computer science.

An underlying idea is that the IT user is a sum of factors. These factors are linked to the industry to which it belongs, its level in the organization, its psychological characteristics, its training in IT and its experience in the world of work.

The industry is heterogeneous and each sector with its particularities defines a micro world. The educational sector will be different from the industrial or financial sector, in this sense the public sector appears strongly and within this we could in turn sectorize it, armed forces, government, health, among others. To establish differences we can point out certain powerful indicators that allow us to differentiate one industry from another; Example of this the labor condition, the income levels, the possibilities of development, the quality of life. There are innumerable indicators that we could point out, but what we are interested in establishing is that all these factors permeate the social behavior of people, users. The degree of maturity in terms of computer culture that exists in the company becomes important,This reality generates more or less conditions for an analysis scenario or for IT implementation. The industry and the company we can point out strongly define one of the dimensions that allow defining the IT user.

The functional dimension or hierarchical level that people have within the company, that is, the position within the organizational pyramid that the individual has will allow establishing other indicators such as: level of commitment, leadership, power, importance of the position, trust, role, among others. This dimension can mobilize the user's psychological elements towards negative or positive wings depending on the role and / or power that the user has in the company.

The psychological profile is a natural condition that individuals possess. Individuals can be classified according to different psychological paradigms. “For the psychologist, personality is the sum total of the ways in which a person reacts to and interacts with other people and the environment. In this sense, personality is the integration of attitudes, values, habits, physical characteristics, interests, capacities and others. Undoubtedly, the psychologist cannot say, Juan has a lot of personality or Elena has no personality. The scientific study of personality is the study of the person as a whole, and we are all of that. The relationship between the user and information technology is another relevant factor, it is the degree of knowledge that the user has regarding the use of the computer, software, the Internet, ERP, commercial systems, among others. The way to see this factor will always be from the perspective of an ordinary user. It is relevant if the way the user has developed professionally and the link she has had with informatics in her organizations, we could speak of the "Level of Assimilated Computing Culture".

On the other hand there is the approach that the user has due to his technical, professional or other training. The way it is related or can be related through diagrams, formulas, drawings, abstractions. And on a more complex level, flow diagrams, block diagrams, state transition diagrams, algorithms, programming languages, advanced user programs, example macros from excel.

One of the approaches of this article tries to say that the user is all that, a sum of factors that move according to the dynamics of the business, the computer culture, the advancement of technology, academic training and the psychological conditions of the individual. which will be permeable to the environment in which it is circumscribed.
