National problems and presidential disapproval in Peru 2015

Anonim

As is well known, the latest opinion polls on the level of approval of President Ollanta Humala indicate a sustained drop in his approval level. Among these polls it is worth mentioning the one carried out by IPSOS PERÚ, at the urban national level, published by the El Comercio newspaper on June 14 of this year, where President Ollanta Humala obtained only 17% approval.

However, this recent survey also confirms which are the main problems of the country to be understood by the citizens of the country at the urban national level and that motivate the disapproval of President Ollanta Humala, the main ones being corruption in his government with 54% and citizen insecurity with 51%.

In addition, it also indicates that economic issues appear in the last places of the causes of their high disapproval such as, in the opinion of the citizens of the country at the urban national level, the mismanagement of the economy with 28% and the rise in prices with 27%.

The aforementioned results fully coincide with the perception expressed in various opinion forums about the country's problems and the current government's management. Under this context, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics - INEI recently published that the Peruvian economy grew by 4.25% last April, driven by the dynamism shown by the mining, fishing and manufacturing sectors, which has meant a accumulated growth of 2.39% of the GDP so far this year, a figure still very far from the expectations and forecasts of growth of the Peruvian economy of the current government.

In this sense, the recent statements by the current president that this latest monthly growth figure may mark a favorable “turning point” in our economy, I consider them unrealistic taking into account the current external and internal economic and geopolitical context and also little relevant in relation to a possible reversal of the high disapproval of the current president, due to the trends of the surveys, such as the one indicated by IPSOS PERÚ where the main problems of the country are corruption and citizen insecurity.
