When you do not know what to do with your professional life because you are stuck, blocked, stuck… it is surely because you have lost your way and do not know which way to go or what to do in the face of new circumstances in life. At some point you may have even given up on your life purpose, or you may even need to reformulate what you want out of life. That is the first step to move forward and then be able to define a coherent professional objective.

Finding a life purpose

Friedrich Nietsche said that "Whoever has to live will always find a how" to refer to the need to find a purpose for which to live. The key is to look for what are the motivations and priorities of our life, those reasons that give meaning to our life.

Life without goals is empty, but not only that, but it leads to continued frustration. We are immersed in a sea of expectations that are not met, because we do not have a coherent life project with them.

Because we want to cover everything, we avoid defining what we want more strongly, but it is not possible to cover everything, and due to a lack of focus, we approach many things but achieve nothing. It takes an introspective look to get to know us better and clear the doubts that do not allow us to clearly see what we want.

Only with an established goal can we get somewhere, and for this reason most people who never find the time to think about what they want, don't get anywhere that is really worth it. Many live their lives automatically, confused and aimlessly, because they have not bothered to reflect on what they really want.

A meaningful life is the only way to live a full life, that makes us feel fulfilled despite the vicissitudes that occur, because despite everything, that is, the difficulties, obstacles and frustrations, the fight will be worth it.

If we have a reason to get up every day, and if we still don't know, isn't it better to clarify it as soon as possible? Otherwise, we will realize one day that we have no reason to live, to get up every day, and that the inertia of routine has dragged us down because we have renounced our freedom to choose and decide.

Define a professional goal

The professional objective is what we want to achieve during our professional life, such as looking for a new job, determining a new professional career, achieving a promotion in a job, improving skills to overcome a work situation, etc.

Based on the purpose of life we must define a consistent professional objective. There is no place to claim a full personal life with time for family, friends, hobbies and at the same time aim for a professional goal that involves giving up all or most of those things.

A single person, for example, without family obligations can define a professional objective that involves changing their residence, city, country, etc., to achieve a great job opportunity. However, people with family responsibilities can hardly have the same ease and predisposition to do so. It also all depends on the priorities of each person, which is something we would have to discover in the first step, which is to know what we live for and what is the meaning or purpose of what we do.

The professional objective must be measurable and achievable. By measurable we mean that you can check what effort you have made to get what you want, for example, how many job offers you have applied, how many phone calls you have made to get job interviews, etc. As far as achievable, what we want to point out is that the objective can really be achieved, that it is not something impossible or idealistic. Thus, achieving to apply to 20 interesting job offers would be an achievable and quite rational objective.

So go ahead, don't let your dreams go by and remember this quote from Brian Tracy:

"You have within you everything you need to overcome life's challenges."
